Excited or disappointed - RC, Hill’s & Purina One Fresh Food

I know this sub regards these three brands particularly with high value (and rightly so) as they offer a very high standard of safe pet food thanks to rigorous scientific research, strict quality control, full-time veterinary nutritionists, and feeding trials rather than marketing trends.

That being said, are you excited or disappointed that all three have entered the fresh food market? A year ago I’m sure half of us thought they would never.

Royal Canin came first and it was “Well at least there’s an option from a reputable brand to recommend for people that want to feed their dogs fresh”.

Hill’s next and it was “Hm, the fat content is concerningly high considering this was formulated by Hill’s. (Like nearly Farmers Dog level high)

Now Purina One looks to be next officially completing the trio.

Changing dog food, have you and why?

I have two adopted Toy Poodles with congenital alopecia. They’re from different litters but share the same mum.

When we adopted our first, he was eating Advance because that’s what the rescue’s vet fed. Six months later we adopted our second, who arrived in poor condition and wasn’t keen on Advance. Our first also never had particularly firm stools so we decided to transition both onto Royal Canin Poodle Adult.

Overall it’s been a good food. Our first dog’s stools became firmer and our second stopped being fussy about meals.
They’ve now been on Royal Canin for about two years but we’re wondering if it’s worth trying something different.

Our first dog’s stools are firm but he often struggles to pass them and ends up crab-walking around the yard for one poop.

Our second has become quite itchy. He’s constantly licking his paws and rubbing at his face whenever he gets the chance. His vet has recently started him on Cytopoint but we’re also wondering whether his diet could be contributing.

Has anyone changed foods and noticed improvements with pooping issues or itchy skin? If you’ve switched foods for another reason, what prompted the change and how did it work out?

TL;DR
• Two Toy Poodles currently on Royal Canin Poodle Adult.

• Looking for experiences with foods that helped firmer but easier to pass stools.

• Looking for experience ls with foods that helped itchy skin, paw licking or face rubbing.
(Dog with itchiness has recently started Cytopoint)

Switching food for two toy poodles

Hi, I’m new to this sub. I browsed the Wiki available but some of it is currently disabled and I wanted to have an open discussion with other pet owners and their food preferences.

I have two toy poodles who have congenital alopecia both adopted at 5months old.

Tobi is 3yrs old and is on Royal Canin Poodle Adult Kibble (topped with a tablespoon of the RC Poodle wet for a bit of moisture). His poops aren’t alarmingly unhealthy but he’s always struggled to get them out and they’re like firm adjacent. Apart from that he’s healthy despite is alopecia condition and Vet is always happy at his check ups.

Billi is 2yrs & 6 months old and is on the exact same diet as his older brother. His poops are healthy, never struggled to get them out but both boys do need their anal glands squeezed every month or so. He has a history of yeast ear infections and we’ve finally got him at a healthy weight (he wasn’t in the best condition when adopted).
He’s had a series of Vet appointments recently for excessive itchiness, licking of paws and rubbing of his face. The Vet trialed cytopoint and it worked, which ruled out boredom or compulsive licking, we had a second consultation and the Vet explained that moving forward his best option is simply for him to just get the shot every 6weeks or when he seems extremely bothered. We were initially disappointed they didn’t seem interested in finding the cause but understood the explanation of why it’s our best option.

Another concern is with their alopecia they need weekly baths to avoid infections, Tobi has always smelled great but Billi smells pretty ripe midweek and gets worse closer to bath day.

Cue the food topic, we thought it couldn’t hurt to try Billi on a different food just to see if it helps and maybe get Tobi some truly firm poops.

Any one have a dog similar to either Tobi or Billi, what do you feed them? Or have any recommendations on what could be best?

I hear good things about PPP, Hills Science Diet & Prime 100. How do these compare to Royal Canin?

(Don’t shoot me) or then there’s the elephant in the room of lightly cooked fresh food like Lyka.

TL;DR
• Both Toy Poodles are on Royal Canin Adult Poodle

• Looking for potential dog food swap that’ll help Poodle 1 have healthy poops / less trouble pooping.

• Looking for potential dog food swap that’ll help Poodle 2 with skin itching / paw licking. (He just got put on Cytopoint)

Dyson Airstraight Burning?

Has anyone experienced these soot marks at the top of their Dyson Airstraight and should I be concerned?

I’ve had the Dyson Airstraight for 4months and I noticed pretty quickly that I was experiencing some pretty severe hair damage so I packed it away and went to a no heat routine. I got my Airstraight back out last night and went to use it again for the first time in a month or two and noticed what looks like burn marks which was an instant red flag to me.

Is my product faulty or is this something else and not burn marks? Like does the airstraight just do this over time given what type of beauty tool it is?

Appreciate any help!

Priceline’s Skincare Range

With the cost of living slowly crunching away at everything, Priceline’s new skincare range seems very nicely timed.

I’m starting to look around at the absurd prices of some of my once staple pharmacy brands and products and can’t really justify the price to restock them unless I wait around on sales consistently.

The price point for these seems very reasonable for what the products are described as and are displayed quite nicely at my local.

The range consists of:

• Priceline 5 Ceramide Complex Hydrating Cleanser 250mL $12

• Priceline 5 Ceramide Complex Rebalancing Mist 100mL
$12

• Priceline 5 Ceramide Complex Intense Hydration Serum 30mL $15

• Priceline 5 Ceramide Complex Radiance Recovery Serum 30mL $15

• Priceline 5 Ceramide Complex Ultra Hydration Cream 50mL

The Intense Hydration Serum + Ultra Hydration Cream in particular I have my eye on but if anyone has tried anything from this range, I’d love to hear your experience with it.

Conserving Beauty Gel Moisturiser

Has anyone tried the brand Conserving Beauty, specifically their Skin Clearing Gel Moisturiser?

Wondering how it stacks up against Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion & Avenue Calm+Restore Oat Moisturiser.
