Micellar Water - your favourites?

I've recently started using micellar water as a first cleanse at night to remove sunscreen etc. I've been using Bioderma in the pink bottle and of course it's great, especially for my sensitive eyes. I was just going to buy it again but notice the Garnier range is so much cheaper, especially when on sale.

Just wondering what the Garnier one is like? Is it comparable to Bioderma at all, particularly for sensitive eyes? Or any other budget options worth looking at?

I don't wear make-up as such, so just using it to remove sunscreen which is sometimes a tinted mineral.

Taking a break from skincare - anyone tried this?

I’m thinking cleanser, moisturiser, Vitamin C in the morning. SPF always. And that’s it.

Has anyone done this before?

I feel like I’ve spent $$$$ on skincare over the years and I love it, but has it actually changed anything? I’m not convinced.

I have normal skin, I look very young for my age which I don’t attribute to skincare, and maybe I just want to act like a man (do bare minimum!) and see if I notice any difference.

Everyday use face sunscreen recommendations

Hi everyone,

Im after some recommendations for good general everyday facial sunscreen that wont break the bank.

For reference, if Im going to be outside proper I use LRP antihelios 50+ on my face or sometimes cancer council 50+ which is fine. This is more about general dya to day where Im either wfh or at the office so only need something when Im not intending to be out in the sun directly for a long period of time, or in and out.

LRP is pretty expensive if I don't buy it on special so looking for something jsut as good but better on the wallet for higher frequency use. It can be 30+ or 50+ recommendations.

Thank you!

Does anyone actually reapply sunscreen properly every 2 hours?

Genuine question because I try… but realistically I forget half the time unless I’m at the beach.

Especially with makeup on or during work days, reapplying perfectly every couple hours feels almost impossible.

Curious what people here actually do in real life vs the ideal dermatologist answer.

Hydrating mist/spray to beat office air and winters

Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for a good hydrating mist that I could apply over make up a couple of times in the day when I'm in the office. The office air makes my skin so strange and dry and my make up begins to look all patchy (even though it doesn't do that normally even if I've had it on for a good couple of hours). And now with winter approaching, I know I'm going to be at my wits end with this.

Any recommendations or tips would be really appreciated!

P.S I do lather on moisturiser before make up and use a good primer.

Vintage unboxing and prelim review: Avon Anew Day Cream

Hi all! I figured there had to be some people in here who found this interesting. First time posting here please be gentle!

So, my mum has a bit of a hoarding problem. Don’t worry, I’m not trying to save her anymore. But the last time I did, I took whatever seemed ‘useable’ and promised I would use it. I’ve been on a mission to pan everything since, but I’m also broke so that works for me.

When mums ex ex boyfriends mum died, she left a lot of Avon stuff. Mum took it ALL.

So for throwback Thursday we haaaaave - this day cream “with sunscreen”. I can’t see any mention of SPF anywhere. Does this predate SPF ratings?!

Packaging: plastic but nice, feels sturdy enough to throw in a handbag without worrying if the cap will fall off.

Scent: definitely perfumed but not a crazy amount. Honestly reminds me of Olay total effects, the pump is similar too. Faint white flowers, typical Avon, pleasant!

Application: one pump was surprisingly big once I got it started. I’m planning to use this on my décolletage on indoors days, I’m not mental enough to put it on my face. One pump would easily cover neck and cleavage, two pumps would get your shoulders too.

How it wears: a lovely glow at first, but sinks in really nice after a few minutes (the time it took to write this! While watching tv…). Not too matte, not too glowy. The patch on my left hand actually feels lovely and I’m sure in its day it was fine to put makeup on. Just gave it a good rub to test for pilling and it passes with flying colours! No grime or anything at all.

Overall: I really like it and I’ll answer any questions you have to the best of my ability, and I don’t mind putting my body on the line a little bit for science.

I’d love any info anyone has about this! How fucking old is it? I couldn’t see an expiry date!

TLDR: socially deprived skincare girlie tries super old Avon stuff. It is surprisingly good.

Travel mini sets - any recommendations?

Im on a whirlwind 1 week trip which will involve 2 x 20+ hour flights - planning carry on only. Im going to have to streamline what I bring with me as well as the usual inflight skin saving products (lip balm, face mist, moisturiser etc).

Im wondering if there are any good travel mini sets out there - Ive got mature, slightly dry skin. Ive had a look on Mecca and Im just not sure if Im being sucked into the marketing hype and I should just put my normal routine into little bottles.... I think part of me just wants to buy little mini products!!

Adore Beauty is now the worst

I used to love Adore Beauty - good range, decent prices, great gwp, stackable codes and fast shipping.

Now none of those things apply.

I just tried to buy something to redeem my L3 loyalty gift. Most of my wishlist was out of stock and then the next 3 items I tried to add to cart came up with an error message saying insufficient stock (though not marked as out of stock).

I started browsing stuff I don’t want or need but managed to come to my senses. It’s not worth it for a sample!!

Why is the beauty market so crappy in Australia? Mecca, Sephora, Priceline and chemist warehouse all have issues.

Where are you shopping for beauty? Do I head back to the department stores?

Does microdermabrasion work?

Seeing some specials on the usual clinic chains - has anyone done microdermabrasion, it is effective for sloughing away dry winter skin?

Has anyone else noticed their skin looking worse when they try too hard to fix it?

I genuinely feel like the more I obsess over my skin, the worse it gets sometimes.

Whenever I start adding too many products, checking the mirror constantly, changing routines every week, or trying every trending ingredient, my skin just becomes irritated, textured, or dehydrated.

But when I keep things simple and stop stressing over every tiny flaw, it somehow looks healthier again.

I'm not saying skincare doesn’t matter, obviously, but I’m starting to think stress + overdoing routines affect skin more than people realise.

Has anyone else experienced this? What made your skin improve more, adding products or actually simplifying everything?

Little known brands and products

Hey all,

On my mid 30s skincare journey and I recently discovered 41 South Glow Serum (Aussie brand). It’s a hydrating serum with vitamin C, EGF, snail mucin. It has completely transformed my skin.

It got me thinking - what other amazing little known brands or products are out there? And what did they do for you?

Edited to add: I don’t work for the brand or any other brand. Actually I don’t work for anyone I’m unemployed! Raising children and trying not to look old and tired all the time ✌️

What are your absolute Holy Grail products from these pharmacy brands? (Cetaphil, CeraVe, LRP, Avene, DermaVeen)

Hey everyone,
I’m looking to update my routine and want to stick to solid, reliable pharmacy brands that are easy to get here in Aus.
If you had to pick the absolute "Holy Grail" status products from these specific brands, what are they for you?

Cheers!

Tretinoin

Hi, I have been dealing with acne after coming off the pill and feel as though I've tried all the skincare people say helped, and am now considering asking my GP for a tretinoin prescription, and was wondering about people's experiences with it. I do have relatively sensitive skin, which concerns me, but I don't really know what else I can try, so I am just wanting to gauge whether people found it helpful or not, as well as knowing how badly people purged/peeled

13yo first dermatologist consult

May daughters been battling pimples & acne since she started menstruating at 10. I’ve noticed some acne scaring happening. She gets the deep acne, blackheads & white heads with really sensitive skin to touch. We’ve tried tret & retinoids. She’s been on antibiotics every few months (following a few surgery’s) which didn’t make much of a difference (though may not necessarily be skin related).

What questions should I be asking the dermatologist?

Edit: we got seen today by the derm. She will be starting topical antibiotics and winlevi. She agreed no birth control at this age, as many commented it will come back if BC is stopped. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions, I went in feeling well educated thanks to your contribution

Gentlest hydrating eye cream for sensitive eyes

I’m 35. Looking for recs for a very gentle hydrating eye cream, I’ve never been able to wear concealer as my under eyes look textured and patchy very soon after. Someone suggested it was due to dehydration.

I’ve never used a real eye cream, I usually just take my skincare close to my eyes and it’s been fine.
