Enterprise AI tools

Hey, help me out if you are a dev for big business. The bigger, more legacy, old school the better. I'm fascinated by how these big businesses approach the use of AI coding tools and subs.

It feels like most vendors have switched to pay per use rather than flat subscriptions. Which means those businesses suddenly have to get their heads around either not letting the devs use modern tools, out paying for some discretionary expense that might vary hugely. Who foots the bill? Department? Project? Do you have any special deals for shared use or polling then budgets? Do you have a fixed allocation and down tools when you're half way through the month and run out?

What I've seen is that when it was a flat sub we could get a good deal, and get it centrally funded, but in the future it's a bit you in the air. So I'm curious what others are seeing.

Alexa skill

I thought it would be useful to be able to check the charge and turn on climate from the smart speaker but couldn't find a skill to do this. I know some smart home ecosystems have some support but I just use Amazon's echo speakers.

I made a skill to do this and I'm just trying to get it approved now. If it's approved, would anyone be interested in testing it? Or is there an obvious alternative that I overlooked? I code for a hobby so I've enjoyed the experience even if I shelve it in the end.

Down the line I think it should be possible to add the same features to the Google assistant which would be cool. I use eco speakers at home but Google assistant away from home.

Shimano deore shifter feel

I've got two bikes*, the older one has 11 speed deore shifters and the new one has 12 speed deore xt. They feel so different though, why is that?

The 11x one has separate brake levers and shifters, the shifting action is much lighter compared to the 12x. On that, the levers and shifters are a single part, and the action is kind of stiff.

Is the new bike likely to wear in and get lighter? Or is it a good thing, a sign that the return spring on the derailleur is going to last? I have had old bikes where the down shifting starts to be less reliable, maybe the return spring is weak.

First world problems I guess, both bikes are a great ride, just wondered if anyone else has noticed the feel of the shifters, or is everyone electronic these days?

*My other half would point out I do have more than two bikes lol

Volvo public charging

I know many people got some charging credit for the Volvo public charging network as a result of the battery recall. I heard that it was a bad deal, with it sometimes charging more than the contactless rate.

Today I needed a little boost on the way home so charged for 8 mins at the station the car chose -which happened to be gridserve. It came to about £15 at over £1 a kWh. But there was no price information that I noticed, so I couldn't have chosen better without doing separate research.

This feels deliberate on Volvo's part- a service that overcharges for the commodity, hides the price, coupled with a car that sends you to the most expensive charger on the route.

I can only assume the Volvo public charging is for the kind of mug who isn't bothered by the price and they just want a charging card that matches the brand of the car.

I'm going to end the charging contract as soon as the battery recall bribe is gone. Unless anyone has any tips for fixing the broken charger selection? Are any of the other brands less sucky than gridserve through DCS?

Battery recall and services

I had an odd message from the app telling me the car needed a service as it was overdue. The info in the car said I didn't. I went through the motions of the service booking in the app just to see where it went, and it went as far as telling me the local dealer has no availability.

I did wonder if it was battery related as I have been charging over 70% in protest.

I used the support in the app to query if I needed a service or not and they told me to disregard the app.

But I also asked about the battery recall progress, and I hope you are all doing this to keep the pressure up on Volvo.

They did interestingly say something new this time, that a significant number of modules were arriving in the UK this month and onwards, and the dealer would be contacting me to arrange the fix.

It's still vague but a bit less of a brush off than before I think.

Annoyed with current deodorants

I'm annoyed and disappointed with current deodorants, first the price is up and the volume is down. But most of all they just aren't effective any more. Smelling bad after a few hours.

I've tried lots of brands including expensive ones. Lots say 72hr coverage which is bs.

I think mostly they removed the effective ingredients and it's time for them to put them back in. Who's with me? Would you buy a deodorant that put back in that nasty effective shit? Bring the alcohol, the aluminium, silver ions, the lot. I don't care if it's eco friendly I just want to smell nice not like some toxic sweat shop labourer.

Echo studio Spotify not working

Echo studio has previously worked fine, but recently it isn't discovered on the network by the Spotify app. This used to work fine.

The Spotify app says 'no devices found on this network' but lists two smaller echo speakers and an echo show on 'other networks'. I've checked and both my phone and the echo speaker are on the same 5GHz network. I can pair the phone to the speaker by Bluetooth but I want to play over the network. It's really frustrating.

Any tips to diagnose, or get the network Spotify playing through the echo speaker again?

New android app, DC charging

I was travelling home yesterday and needed to top up at the services. Only 10% or so to be sure of getting home - the original estimated charge on arrival was 0%, which is a bit close for comfort lol.

So I went in to the services for a wee thinking I would stop charging from the app, as the pricey motorway chargers seem to go really fast at times, and I didn't want to pay for more. To my surprise I couldn't end charging from the app. I felt like I used to be able to do this? Or maybe I'm confusing using the Tesla app or some other app. Did it used to be on the Volvo app or am I imagining it?
