The Wyndfinder, an upcoming CRPG in active development

Hello folks! My name is Scott, and I'm the developer of the CRPG, The Wyndfinder. I've been working on this game for a very long time, in various formats, incarnations, etc., but this time it stuck. Inspired by the original Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity, with an art style designed to evoke Rankin Bass' The Hobbit or Bakshi's Lord of the Rings.

In this game, the world has known centuries of peace after being shattered during the Celestial War. The realms are connected through a magical pathway known as The Wynding Way. As a novice Wyndfinder, you are the first in a decade with the ability to open that pathway and connect the world. As the power behind the Way begins to warp and cause havoc, you will need to make allies and traveling companions, as you endeavor to learn the truth about what the Wynd truly is and what you are going to do about it.

Thank you for taking a look at it, I appreciate any support you can throw my way, and I'd be thrilled to answer any questions you might have about the game. Currently targeting a release in October 2027, with the first closed Playtest starting in August of this year! The public demo timing will depend on how those first Playtests go.

I've been developing a CRPG for four years... here goes!

Heya! My name is Scott, and I've been building a CRPG based on, you guessed it, a campaign world that I've worked on since the 1900s. Only fitting that the game would be based on the classics, which I hope comes through a bit in the style. I am a bit off on grim dark fantasy, and wanted to make something lighter, so I based the art direction on Rankin Bass/Bakshi art. I am really thrilled and lucky that dungeon synth legend Witch Bolt liked the project enough to sign on for the soundtrack.

I am hesitating to throw the steam page in here, which I just launched, out of respect for folks here, but I do have a trailer that I want to share.

The game is "5E Compatible", and I would love to know what you would consider most important about that. My philosophy has been two fold, to reduce friction as much as possible, and make the non-combat aspects of skill use as important to advancing the plot as combat. I've spent a lot of time on making sure the system handles "fail forward" like a proper GM, and have a dice mechanic that allows the player to take some control over things, although that can be configured into auto-rolling should that be the preference.

For the "lower friction" bit, I personally hate being interrupted for every Reaction choice! That has meant reworking those spells and features to be either passive or single-use buffs that cost either the reaction or bonus action to cast. I've been really happy with how this feels, but it does require some planning to execute well. In play testing so far, it's held up.

After four years of solo work on a CRPG, the Coming Soon page went up last week. Would love feedback and any wishlists you got on you :)

Hi everyone! My name is Scott, and my game is The Wyndfinder! It's a classics-inspired CRPG, with an art style that hopefully brings out some old Rankin Bass vibes. One thing I've noticed, the MP4 files in the ABOUT THIS GAME section have some ... flicker... when I look on my phone. I have no idea what to do about that, but I hate it. Witch Bolt is onboard for the OST, bringing some Ambient Dungeon Synth wizardry to the party.
