Starting daycare tomorrow

I desperately do not want to spend all day today crying but this is harder than I thought it would be. I mean WAY harder. LO (3.5 months) starts daycare tomorrow, just going for a couple short days until I start work in 2 weeks. I wanted to stagger out start days so it’s an easier transition for everyone. But anyway, talk me off the ledge. Tell me it’s ok that he has to go to daycare (“has to” being the operative word here, I don’t have other options that I am comfortable with). Tell me it’ll get easier and I’ll feel better after the first day is under our belt. Tell me how to not spend all day crying 😭😭

Pumping/bottles for daycare

Stupid question but I can’t figure out what makes sense. If you prepare your bottles the night before, when are you moving the pumped milk from the freezer to thaw? The night before that, or just earlier in the day? I don’t want it to be thawed longer than necessary so I have plenty of opportunities to use up any that he might not take at daycare?

What’s after swaddle??

I know they shouldn’t be swaddled anymore once they start trying to roll. My 15 week old is just getting to that stage but he will not sleep if I try arms out. I got a zipadee zip that he hated, but it honestly might be a bit too big for him, just isn’t snug enough. So then I tried the halo that we were using to swaddle and just left his arms out. But he’s only ever slept swaddled up like a burrito (except for contact naps or car naps). I know it’s a combo of the startle reflex and just not being used to his arms out to the side.

I feel like I’m never going to get him comfy enough to sleep! For now I’ve still got him swaddled at night since he’s in the bassinet and doesn’t really have room to roll much. But I’ve been experimenting with the other methods during naptime today and nothing has worked. I end up putting him back in the swaddle and just watching the monitor extra close.

A friend suggested the Merlin suit so I’m going to borrow hers to try. What are everyone’s thoughts on those? I’m afraid baby will still resist it since his arms will be out to the side and not down like when in a swaddle.

Looking for any tips or tricks or ideas you have!

Maybe have high lipase

I need some help understanding high lipase and potential remedies. I have read a bunch of historical posts in this sub but I wanted to ask here too.

I just started experimenting with giving baby thawed breast milk and he didn’t want it. The smell definitely seemed off but I couldn’t narrow down if I thought it was soapy or metallic. But it was definitely different. So then I did a taste test vs freshly pumped milk and there was definitely a difference. The thawed stuff just tasted wrong, sour almost. I had my husband try too and he totally gagged after tasting the thawed milk. This sounds like high lipase, right?

I guess the “good” news is that I only had about a week and a half of pumped, frozen milk so not a *ton* of work down the drain (so to speak, I’m not really going to toss it) but I’m sad nonetheless.

I’ve read the various recommended remedies but I feel overwhelmed with where to start in our experimentation. Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

Additional question: I read in one of the threads that someone’s pediatrician said scalding the milk destroys the antibodies. Anyone else been told that too? That would defeat a lot of the reason to BF/pump so I really really hope that isn’t true.

Naps?

That I can recall, no one has ever really explained to me how many naps and how long my baby should be getting. He’s 12 weeks and sleeps through the night and definitely takes cat naps during the day but it’s always been when he falls asleep on me on the couch or in the car. I’ve never been able to successfully transfer him for a daytime nap except once, and it was a short one.

How do you handle naps for your infant and how do you know how many they typically need in a day?
