Department head scheduled a meeting with all employees except middle managers. What could this mean?
I have a friend from university that will message me and say, “let’s plan a trip to go do X” or “would you be interested in planning a trip to go X?” I’ll respond with “yes, when are you thinking?” She’ll say, “let me look at my calendar and play with dates”. Nothing ever comes of it. She mentioned she wanted to get together for a weekend and I told her where I’ll be on what dates. Deep down I knew she wouldn’t show. Sure enough, I get a cancellation message. It took me a couple of days to decide how I wanted to respond. After 12 years I’ve just learned to accept that’s how she is. Do I feel like a valued friend? No, not at all. We send each other a Christmas and birthday gift every year, but she can’t follow through with making plans. I’m not sure if she does this to everyone and just doesn’t want to make a decision to see if a better opportunity comes along, but it’s a lot of mixed messages for me. It makes me feel bad, but I’m kinda over it at this point.
I am a huge supporter of mental health and bringing awareness. We’ve come a long way as a society and it really upsets me when people are abusing mental health reasons to justify poor behavior.
Recently my boss continues to use mental health as a crutch for being unreliable. We’re understaffed, my workload has over doubled, and I’ve yet to receive any additional compensation. My boss continues to dump more work onto me and will message me with special requests early in the morning and then lets the team know what time they will be online by X time as they have to go work out in the morning. A stressful day? They need to disappear during the day to go work out. A busy week? Needs to take a last minute mental health day.
I’m currently working on my nursing pre-reqs while working full time in supply chain. Am I crazy for wanting to make the switch? I can’t handle sitting at a desk all day doing meaningless work and want to do something where I can make an impact and have the ability to jump into different areas.
