I have been thinking for years that I want a mk2 golf, what should I know about the mk2 golf before I make any decisions?

Hello! I'm someone who has a bit of a soft spot for the semi-boxy vehicle design of the 80s, for hatchbacks, and who wants a vehicle that I can work on myself. I don't have any hands on mechanic experience, but I want a project car so that I can get some, and I have spent a lot of time learning about working on cars and watching videos and even trying to offer advice to friends about their own project cars.

I really like the look of the (non-GTI*) mk2 golf, and I think that I would love the vehicle in terms of practicality and comfort when in good condition.

But I'm also aware that every old car has its common issues, and some are worse than others. Restoring a car takes time, and it's going to be hard to motivate myself to work on a car if I can't tolerate driving it in the meantime. So I wanted to hear what people have to say about these cars in terms of their difficulties and common issues, and any other advice that people think I should have.

I am also very aware that it can be hard to find the specific vehicle you want when you want it. I wouldn't want to settle, but it would be good to have ideas for some alternative but similar cars that are worth looking out for.

For reference, I am in the US (California specifically) so we would be talking about US market cars. I don't know how much it would cost to import a euro golf, but I don't see a good reason to do so, and I know it's probably out of my price range (not to mention impractical) anyways.

Thank you in advance everyone.

*PS. I don't hate the look of the GTI, but I think I prefer the non-GTI look when comparing the two. And I don't really do any racing, if anything I drive my car the way my grandma drives it; carefully and as efficiently as I can. Besides, if I get a non-GTI and decide I want some more performance from it, I can probably just swap some newer performance parts on, rather than having a whole different car just to make number go up.

My FD75 started making a whining noise

Hi everyone, I just got my fd75 a few weeks ago and I've been using it, and I only just now got around to putting in a new clock battery (the old one was long dead)

After I put the new clock battery in (CR2025) and turned it on, the camera started emitting a faint high-pitched whining noise, which continues for minutes once turned off, but does eventually stop.

I never noticed it before, but after removing the clock battery and turning it on, the whining is back. So I'm not sure if I somehow broke something by replacing a dead clock battery, or if I just didn't notice it before.

I am also wondering if maybe it's an incompatibility with the aftermarket battery I'm using? I do have the original battery still, and remarkably it does still hold a charge (for about 15-20 minutes), but the aftermarket battery is stuck inside and I don't have any Velcro.

So I guess I have two questions; is this noise normal, and how can I get my battery out without risking damage to the camera or the battery?

How to look for a good cable for my new DT 770 Pro X

Hello, I just bought some Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro Xs and I absolutely LOVE how these things sound. There is literally only one thing I can possibly complain about with these headphones, and its that the cable is a little noisy.

I don't mean noise as in static or interference, there is absolutely zero static or whining, chirping, etc. when I pause the music. What I mean is that vibrations travel through the cable, if I tap on it or if it rubs against my jeans or whatever, I can hear that because the cable is rather stiff. So I want to buy a new cable, it has to be mini-XLR to 3.5mm, would be nice if it also does the detachable 1/4" adapter like the ones with the headphones do, just needs to be silent in terms of transmitting vibrations.

I don't really know where exactly to look since I've never used anything XLR and I don't know what brands make good accessories for professional audio, so that's what I'm looking for help with.

Hello, I work physical jobs (maintenance right now, used to be dishwasher, might be something else in another 6 months) and I want earbuds for work, but the last two pairs I bought both fell in the sink when I was a dishwasher... They fell in within 45 minutes of first using them. The second pair had a small loop that goes around the ear, but they were flexible rubber and very small so they still fell out just the same. Now I'm working maintenance so I'm at least not going to be working over a sink, but I will be very active, including climbing.

I'd like some earbuds that will go around the ear and stay there, even if I'm running, climbing, crawling, jumping, those suckers need to stay put like the crap in my toolbelt does. They must have some sort of loop or clip or something, anything that's supposed to just go in and stay is going to slip out from my sweat. I can't even get regular earplugs to stay in unless I shove them way in there (which you aren't supposed to do)

Thanks for any help
