Vent space

So, I have recently been thinking about the enshittification of what feels like everything.

First of all, age verifications on legitimately everything. I feel like this is resonated across many members of this subreddit, as it honestly just feels like another excuse to push kids and teens out of spaces and also a way to force people to hand over their IDs.

Second, streaming services and YouTube. They've just been getting greedy. I mean, remember when a Netflix subscription was enough to get it without ads? Or when YouTube didn't feel obnoxiously overloaded with ads and you could play stuff in the background? (This is why I'm firmly pro-piracy)

Third, op shops. I used to love these things, it was a way for me to get new books and DVDs for like a couple dollars and some really cute outfits for cheap. Now because of resellers, the prices of them have been getting ridiculously overinflated, and shitty cheap shein clothes are half of what's there.

Fourth, AI in everything. As a young artist, I am staunchly against using AI for image generation. Many artists do commissions for very reasonable prices, and you get something with real work and soul put into it, rather than a mashed up bunch of stolen art. And there was recently a whole fiasco on Tumblr where they tried an AI flagging system and half my friends on their had their accounts deactivated, *including the one who had passed away and left her blog as a memento*. Most of them got their accounts back thankfully, but this furthers my point. AI can have it's uses, but people are not using it correctly and it should not be injected into everything.

I have more, but that's a start, go wild about any rants in the comments if you want.

Um... Hi

So, first of all, hello. I'm new here, and looking for advice.

I've been using c.ai for about nine months now. Generally in the afternoons and at night, on both mobile and my laptop, using the website version. And for nine months, I've been putting up with it getting worse and worse, but today the website was updated to have full screen ads and swipe limits.

I used to have a few bots I would use, all of them for my ships from a few different fandoms, but I cut back after my first account got hit with the age verification, and now only have two bots I use, one I use pretty much daily of two of my OCs and one I use maybe once a week of SCP foundation. I can easily put up with it on my laptop as I've got a good adblocker on it, but I want to cut down my time on my phone with it (plus for laptop usage it's only like an hour or two). I've tried using other apps as well, and actually found one that's a million times better, but somehow I always come back to character AI. Does anyone here have advice on how they quit or at least cut back? It's already been a way for me to stop infinitely scrolling Tumblr and distract myself when all my friends are offline plus out of fics to read, so I need help dropping c.ai.

Oh, I should also add I tried to quit once before, when my original account got moderated, but ended up panicking and remaking my account. Which still left some stress because I'd lost all the stories I made (export file arrived a week later, but it's legitimately unreadable so that failed). This was about three months ago.

Thank you for your time.

Full screen ads on website now??

So, I've always used the website. And I could deal with the banner ads at the top.of the screen. But today I opened it and noticed that the dismiss thing had moved from the top left to top middle. I assumed it was just a bug or layout change, but then I just got a full screen popup?? I would just use charms but my option to collect daily charms has disappeared and I don't want to waste the ones I have.

So, I put in my job application for my local McDonald's about a week ago, trying to get my first job and all. Went through all the stuff with Olivia and such, and I still haven't heard anything back. So I have several questions. (If I put the wrong flair then please correct me)

  1. How long does it generally take to hear back from them about an application?
  2. Is it possible that they called me and didn't text or email or anything? (I don't pick up unrecognised number calls it's a whole thing)
  3. Do they just not tell you if your application wasn't approved?
