Some patients are so dumb I wonder how they function at all.

Patient comes in with necrotic 22 and 27. Both need to go and I discuss it with him. I ask him which one hurts and he points. I talk to him about taking out the right canine, he signs a consent, and I give him a mental block on the right side. I let 10 minutes pass. I ask him if he’s starting to feel the numbing, which he is, and I go ahead and I infiltrate around tooth. Come back a few more minutes later and poke right side, says no pain. I start working, it is a bitch, and I get it all out. Put gauze in and walk him out. Once he’s out in the lobby he starts hollering that it was actually the left side that hurts and I pulled the wrong tooth. Can’t wait for the shitty review.

Does anybody use E Assist for monthly reconciliation?

New practice owner here. Slogging through ETFs is tedious/time consuming. Does anybody have experience with this? My practice is medium sized (100-120k/month).

What shoes do you wear with trousers when you are dressing them more casually?

I have several trousers made with a variety of materials. My favorites are linen, though. I have several leather loafers which I enjoy that elevates the look, which I enjoy in the right setting. I was wondering what you guys do when you are dressing more casually? I was thinking something like the sperry CVO?

Sports teams should have mascots that are closely associated with the history or culture of the region

Teams with mascots/names that are tied to the region through heritage, history, or culture have a greater sense of identity that I feel is recognized both by the fans of that team and by visiting teams. I don’t see the need to select an “intimidating” mascot at all, really. We have enough lions, bears, Spartans, etc. Frankly, it feels a bit silly that a team should have a mascot that has no business being from where the team is located. I actually enjoy the homage a team pays to their city when they adopt a name like Steelers, Packers, Buckeyes (if you want to extend the example to college teams).

Am I the only one who finds it vindicating when a patient who blows you off returns with the exact issue you warned them of?

I have a patient this afternoon for a split molar I told him needed a crown three months ago. Tooth has a crack through the marginal ridge I could park my car in. It was his first time seeing me and he acted like I was trying to scam him or something. I don’t wish ill on anybody, but I have to admit I derive some sort of satisfaction from people who either don’t value me or doubt my intentions having to wrestle with being wrong.

Do you guys reconcile your own day sheets or does your OM have access to the practice bank account?

New owner. Are you guys trusting an OM to handle this? Checking the day sheet every day and finding discrepancies is not my favorite activity, and it would be lovely to allow some sort of viewer only status for the OM to do this for me. Are other offices doing this?

Between Dublin, UA, and Grandview, which would you say is the ideal place to raise a family?

My wife and I are looking for somewhere to get started. We have ample experience in Grandview and UA (albeit not as parents) and have heard great things about Dublin. All three are a reasonable distance to work for us. What is your opinion? Do any have clear cut advantages or disadvantages over the others?

Are endo activators BS?

I had a rep show me an Endo activator recently. It’s essentially a plastic file that vibrates inside the canal after shaping and irrigating. The idea is that it works the hypochlorite into accessory canals and dislodged debris. I looked into it a bit but was curious for professional opinions.

Any of you use open system milling?

I have extensive experience with Cerec, and am considering implementing into my own practice now that I’m an owner. The financial reality of it was not something I grasped as an associate, and I want to at least take a look into alternative options before pulling the trigger on a $100K system. What is working for you?

What are the dos and dont’s of western style belts?

I know they’re a little trendy right now and will likely fall out of style/become gouache, but I like them and would like to experiment with one. My issue is I’m not exactly sure what it would go with. Seeing that it is summer and my climate is pretty warm, most of my wardrobe for this time of year is linen. Would it look preposterous with a western belt? And what of shoes? Typically I pair pennyloafers but I’m afraid they’d clash with the belt.

My wife and I love hiking. The past few months, however, we discovered a mild issue with her knee that will require some minor work to alleviate. Our issue is we have already booked our trip to Bergen and this procedure cannot take place beforehand. My wife only has issues with steep incline, no issues outside of that. We have done several hikes to test this. My question is if the Vidden trail is feasible for us if we take the funicular up and down? Online it doesn’t seem to have much change in altitude once you take the ride up. Please tell me if this is a fool’s errand.
