Looking for information on service history

I am not sure if this is the proper sub for this question, but I had a close family member who passed about a year ago. He was in the 7th marines in Vietnam from Jan 1970 to Jan 1971 and operated around LZ Baldy. He didn’t talk much about his service but only a few times. I know he was on a mortar team and I believe from his stories he was some type of observer and basically they would get dropped off somewhere and spend weeks at a time looking for enemy activity to set up ambushes/strikes on.

I was hoping someone who knows more history on this subject could give me information about his or marine units in general’s type of service on this area.

Ideas for DIY project

Wife wants to add a light on this back wall overlooking a painting and the toilet. The nearest power source is a switch on the other side of the wall that controls a light in the office. What would be the best way to do this without having a switch? Wife just says add a switch next to the existing one since it won’t matter and it will stay on almost all the time. I can’t stand the idea of having a random switch that controls a light from another room. I thought about by passing the switch so it’s always hot but adding some time of hidden smart switch to control it with an app or buying a light with a physical switch on it. Thought/ideas?

Any thoughts on how to improve on this? Any obvious settings that need to be adjusted? Pics 4-6 are side, bottom, side.
