$40 bucks at a thrift store started my 3D printing journey

I popped into a ReStore on the way home from work a few weeks ago and came across this beauty. I couldn't believe my luck! And the guy who donated it was still in the store - it was on the floor 5 minutes before he saw me perusing elsewhere and pointed it out to me.

Super nice dude! Gave me a full rundown on the upgrades he'd made, its nuances, etc. He even included a tips and tricks printout haha.

I've been wanting to get into 3D printing for a while but not in earnest and hadn't had the opportunity to start budgeting for a several-hundred-dollar entry into a new hobby. I hadn't researched enough to know I could get in this cheap.

It really is the perfect machine for me because I'm a tinkerer and it begs (and needs!) to be tinkered with. Since setting it up and familiarizing myself with it, I've printed several mods for it, installed a CR Touch (I had to create my own wiring harness!), swapped the bed springs for silicone spacers, and flashed it with the mrscoc professional firmware. I also set up separate OctoPrint and camera servers. The whole project has been a blast to work on.

I picked up an ender 3 v2 for $100 that is completely functional, however!

However the printer has produced prints within this month until put away and sold to me. I’d like to know how to tune and calibrate it before I attempt some prints. If anyone has a forum link or video that explains I’d be very grateful

Has anyone used ERYONE Silk Filament PLA+

Has anyone used ERYONE Silk Filament PLA+ ? I just got some because of how reflective the silver was. I can't seem to get a good print with it. I was hoping someone could share their settings if they've printed with this before. I'm using cura but have downloaded several other slicers. I normally print at 220 nozzle and 60 bed and default settings in cura for generic PLA.

Prints not sticking

Hello I got some problems with my prints not sticking to the bed. I got this printer yesterday and it printed fine with the settings I'm using. I already leveled the bed cleaned the build plate with soapy water and I tried some hairspray. I tried to change the y offset but I have a feeling it did not do anything.

What would you do?

Hey all,

I had a clog in my ender 3v2 hotend and also bits of the clogs ended up inside the bowden tube after I pulled out the filament..... tried to remove though was hopeless.

I picked up a new hotend with installed ptfe tube, with wiring etc. I have a microprobe v2 that I havent Installed and had the thought to do it all together.

After reading all of the horror stories re the microprobe v2 and our enders, spooked me. All this has probably come about as I have been thinking of picking up the bambu x2d....

Would you;

  1. Install the hotend and not bother with microprobe?

2.Install both while its all apart and take the leap?

  1. Install both and use different firmware? Marlin, klipper?

I have a stock ender 3v2, with pi3 running octoprint and Stiffened springs.

Oh the options.....

New and unsure what to do...

So like my title says, Im new to all of this, the printer itself and 3D Printing as a whole. But I got a Ender 3 V2 with a CR Touch pre-installed second hand. I thought I did everything needed to print using the PLA I got but the PLA seems to be coming out messed up when applying extra layers. Ill include a video of my issue but essentially I saw someone else had this issue and it was a bed leveling issue. I want to see if that could also be my issue and what else I need to do... im more lost on how to use it than I thought I was. Any help is appreciated

Edit: So after alot of suggestion it seems the consensus is to level the bed again manually. I tried to do so at this point but cant figure out the spring adjustment system. Anyone have tips or can help with this

Just one more mod and its done, i swear

My wife isn't happy with the amount of mods i've done just to make this poor Ender Work reliably.

Yeah maybe i should've listend to her and just to the E3NG or Duender route

Is this heat creep?

Sorry if this is an stupid question or if the photos are not helpful.

Lately I've been trying to print some terrains for WH40k. The ruins I'm trying to print re foldable and the small ones print without any issue, but the longer ones fail after some time.
It seems to be a clog, because filament simply stop going through and the extruder starts to skip and grind the filament.

Restarting or printing something else always seem to fix the issue without need to unclog the nozzle.

I've tried reducing extrusion distance and speed and still the issue persist. The failed print from the photo is the second atempt at a large ruin which clogged after 1hr and 30min of print (+- 5mm high). The first one failed at the same time. Curiously, in between failed attemps I managed to print a smaller ruin (4:30hr print), with the only difference being that the model had thicker walls.

Currently I'm sitting at :

  • 195-200 degress (have tried both)
  • 2mm retraction
  • 25mm/s retraction speed
  • 50mm/s printing speed
  • 15mm/s first layer
  • 0.2mm layers
  • 5% gyroid infill

Printer has the original stock heatblock and fans, metal extruder, runout sensor, autolevel and magnetic PEI. I'm considering using a bi-metal heatbreak and replacing the fan, since anything more expensive than that at this point and I'd consider getting a newer model, since I've had this one for 3 years now.

Test Cube

Any thoughts on how to improve on this? Any obvious settings that need to be adjusted? Pics 4-6 are side, bottom, side.

Is this normal for it to sound like this?

Ive noticed that my printer seems to be louder when moving is this normal sound or should I be concerned

Z-offset changing with each print

You are getting pissed off by z offset constantly changing?

I spent few hours reading theory online to find a solution...

It was right there in front of my nose.

Just make sure the bottom eccentrinc screw is tight.

Otherwise gantry will wobble like there is no tomorrow.

My latest tortoise planter design 🐢🌿

Just finished this tortoise planter design and honestly I’m really happy with how it turned out 🐢🌿
The mix of matte black with vibrant greenery gives it such a clean modern vibe. Thinking of making more animal-inspired planters like this.

Would love to hear what people think — especially plant lovers and 3D printing fans.
