🍓 Strawberry top syrup — finished & frozen! 🧊

🍓 Strawberry top syrup — finished & frozen! 🧊

I’ve been saving my little boy’s strawberry tops in the freezer rather than throwing them away, and they’ve officially had their second life. 😂🍓

The strawberry syrup is finished, strained and I’ve poured it straight into an ice cube tray to freeze in individual portions.

I actually LOVE doing it this way because I can just grab one little cube whenever we want one. My little boy can have one melted into his water for a fruity drink or mixed into yoghurt, and there are soooo many other things I can use them for too.

Smoothies, milkshakes, porridge, overnight oats, homemade ice lollies, lemonade, pancakes, waffles, fruit bowls, ice cream… basically anything that could benefit from a little hit of strawberry. 🍓😂

Once they’re completely frozen I’ll pop them out and transfer them into a freezer bag/container, then the ice cube tray is free again.

Considering this started as a bag of strawberry tops that would otherwise have gone in the bin, I’m ridiculously pleased with it. 😂♻️

Definitely doing this again!

Anyone else save random food scraps and turn them into something useful? I’d love some more ideas 👀

My toddler has been unknowingly helping me make strawberry syrup for the last 2 weeks 😂🍓

For the past couple of weeks, every time my 2-year-old has strawberries I've been chucking the tops into a freezer bag instead of throwing them away.

The bag finally got full enough that I thought… right, time to actually do something with these 😂

So tonight I've packed the frozen strawberry tops into a jar with granulated sugar and I'm letting them do their thing and turn into strawberry syrup 🍓❤️

I genuinely love stuff like this. The tops still have a surprising amount of strawberry attached to them, so something that would've normally gone straight in the bin is now becoming something we can use on pancakes, yoghurt, ice cream, in drinks, milkshakes etc.

Also slightly amused that this has technically been a two-week collaborative project between me and my toddler.

He ate the strawberries.

I collected the evidence.

The freezer stored the evidence.

And now the evidence is being turned into syrup. 😂

I'll definitely be saving the strawberry tops from now on if this turns out as good as I'm hoping!

Waste not, want not… especially when strawberries are involved 🍓♻️

Has anyone else tried making syrup this way? And what other fruit scraps have you managed to turn into something useful?

🌱 I may have accidentally started an Alocasia corm army…

These little beauties have JUST arrived and I’m ridiculously excited to get them growing 😂🌿

I picked up 6 Alocasia corms —

🌱 3 × Alocasia Frydek

🐉 3 × Alocasia Pink Dragon

They’ve arrived already set up in their own little propagation tubs, and now comes the part that requires a skill I’m notoriously bad at when it comes to plants… patience. 😂

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about growing Alocasias from corms. One minute you’re staring at what essentially looks like a tiny brown lump wondering whether it’s doing anything, and then suddenly there’s a root… a little green nub… and eventually an entire plant. 🥹

I’m especially excited about the Frydeks because they’re absolutely gorgeous when mature, and I’ve never grown Pink Dragons from corm before either.

So now these six have officially joined the propagation corner, where I’ll inevitably be checking them approximately 47 times a day for signs of life. 😂

Anyone else currently growing Alocasias from corms? How long did yours take before you saw the first signs of growth? 👀🌱

And yes… I absolutely will be documenting their progress. 😂💚

When you don’t have a box that fits the plant… DIY one 😂🌿📦

I had a Moonshine Snake Plant to pack for dispatch and absolutely none of my boxes were the right shape. It’s tall, upright and just awkward enough that using a normal box would either mean squashing the foliage or leaving way too much empty space for it to move around in transit.

So naturally, I ended up DIYing boxes together to make one specifically tailored to the plant. 🤣

It may look slightly ridiculous (and there is an ungodly amount of FRAGILE tape involved 😂), but the plant is snug, the pot can’t move around, the leaves are protected and the whole thing is much safer for its journey.

I’d much rather spend extra time chopping up and Frankensteining cardboard boxes together than shove a plant into packaging that doesn’t fit properly. 🌿

One day... this beauty will be mine

I swear every time I see a Syngonium Pink Variegated it climbs even higher up my wishlist. 😍

The mix of bubblegum pink, creamy white and deep green is just unreal. Every leaf looks like it's been hand-painted, and no two are ever the same.

I'm trying to be sensible (my plant shelves are already testing the structural integrity of my flat 😂), but this is definitely one of those "when the right one comes along..." plants.

Anyone here own one? How's it been to care for? Is it as rewarding as it looks, or is it one of those plants that likes to keep you humble? 🌿💖

My propagation window somehow filled itself up again...

I only potted up the majority of my previous batch of propagations about a week ago, and somehow my propagation window is already completely full again.

Every time I tell myself, "No more cuttings for a while," another plant decides it needs a trim, and before I know it every propagation bulb and spare bit of space is occupied. 🤣

The real problem is... where on earth am I going to put them all once they're rooted and ready for pots? Future me can worry about that one.

The upside is that there'll be plenty of healthy plants ready for new homes over the next few months, so I can't complain too much!

Anyone else have a propagation station that seems to refill itself the moment you empty it? I'd love to see yours! 🌿

My Silvery Ann Pothos has finally started climbing her honeycomb trellis and I'm obsessed 🩶🌿

I've been patiently waiting for my Silvery Ann to really grab hold of her honeycomb trellis, and she's finally decided it's her new favourite place to climb!

I absolutely love how the silver variegation catches the light, and it's been fascinating watching each new leaf position itself as it grows upwards. I'm hoping that as she matures and continues climbing, the leaves will get even larger.

It's honestly one of those plants that just gets prettier every week. 😍

Does anyone else grow their Silvery Ann vertically? I'd love to see how yours has matured over time, especially if you've got one that's been climbing for a while!

Is this my Monstera's first fenestrated leaf? I'm ridiculously excited 😂

I've been growing this Monstera (I call her Morticia 😄), and I think she's finally producing her first fenestrated leaf!

I've been checking on it far more often than I'd like to admit because I couldn't tell if it was just splitting awkwardly or if it was actually going to develop holes.

For those with more Monstera experience:

- Does this look like the start of proper fenestration?

- Around what stage did yours start fenestrating?

- Did you notice anything that seemed to encourage it, or was it just down to maturity?

I'd love to see photos of everyone else's first fenestrated leaves too!
