Following a Reaper tutorial, I have downloaded and installed Sitala.

The Reaper tutorial was created before Sitala released it's newer, paid version. I downloaded the paid version.

The Decomposer website advertises that Sitala is available as a vst.
But the download for Mac is a standalone app.

The download button says "macs1 10.12 or later Standalone / VST / AU /AAX".

However, it seems to install a standalone app.

I guessed that perhaps the installation process also installs a vst plugin.
But Reaper didn't pick up a plugin, even after rescanning plugin folders and restarting.

Hope this is the right place to ask.

I basically want to learn the Reaper DAW and the fundamentals of putting together a bass music track.

I'm learning from absolute scratch, and I've been wondering about having AI as a mentor.

I've got free accounts on Claude and Chatgpt.

Would either of these services be better than the other?

And what about local LLM's?
Are there any LLM's that I could get running with ollama that might be suitable for this kind of mentoring?

I figure that I won't necessarily need my AI mentor to produce graphs or charts. I can augment my learning process the old-fashioned way - with Google. So I can resort to old-fashioned websearch when it comes to some concepts.

I'm getting back into building with Wordpress.

Back in the day I used to use Toolset a lot, then moved to implimenting ACF.

I'm setting up a testbed site for a project and pondering which extension to use for custom fields.

I like that Toolset has easily implimentable grids and filters.

For those of you who have followed the various tools over the last couple of years - how does Toolset compete in terms of features?

I'm a noob to DAW's and I'm following a tutorial on Reaper.

I'm running Reaper on a mac.

The tutorial says to use Helm.
I've downloaded Helm and placed it on ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

After that I rescanned plugins.

Helm is not showing in the plugins list.

I restarted Reaper and the plugin still doesn't show.

What do I need to know in order to install plugins for Reaper on Mac?

Typing this post, I started describing one problem... and then discovered a deeper one...

I'm sure that there's more than one way to do give an object a blurred shadow.
But I'm following the basic tutorial here:

At one point the tutorial directs the user to draw a cloud.
Following that, there are instructions to create a shadow by applying an affect to the line:

"We will add a line effect to make the cloud a bit softer. In the Style window, check the Advanced button to display the advanced style options. Select ‘Soft Edge’ from the Stroke Effect pop-up menu. Accept the default settings and click OK..."

I've applied the effect to the stroke. But it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
I'm not getting a shadow or anything at all.

Actually, after typing that I decided to switch effects.
Applying any one of the effects to the stoke of the cloud I drew yields no results. None of the effects are doing anything.

I'm certain that I'm looking at the right object, and that I have the line selected.

Even changing the colour of the stoke does nothing.

What could I be doing wrong?

I've accidentl zoomed right out so far that I can't see the objects that I'm working on.

How do I recenter the scene within the canvas?

under the caption 'gradient settings' there is descriptive text and illustration, describing how to manipulate gradient controls.

"To see the gradient preview more easily, click outside the hill to deselect the fill. You’ll notice a line with a filled circle at one end, which represents the start color of the gradient (green in our example). The empty circle at the other end represents the end color of the gradient (brown in our example). You can adjust the position of these indicators to control the blending and direction of the gradient."

I can do all the clicking, deselecting and selecting in the world. But the gradient controls do not appear.

How do I make the visible?

I want the space between the lines to be greater than it is.

I'm on Tahoe on a Mac Studio.

In Finder I've connected to shares on a remote machine.

I want to reduce my navigation fumbling. It would be useful to have shortcuts to the remote folders in the sidebar of Finder.

My intuition says that I should be able to drag the folder to a position in the sidebar. This doesn't work.

In previous versions of MacOs I would:
* navigate to the folder;
* activate the path bar
* drag the target folder part in the path bar to the sidebar.

This doesn't seem to work in Tahoe.

In Affinity Photo how can I fill an entire selection?

I'm using the photo persona.

I've got a selection. Using the bucket fill tool, the fill only fills continguous pixels of the same colour. But I want to fill the actual entire selection.

How can I do this?

I have a new mac studio and an old mac desktop running sequoia.

I want to copy my files from my old mac to my new one.

I've spent hours trying to do this, and getting nowhere.

SFTP fails: sshd cannot be given Full Disk.
So I can't access many folders via ssh.

smb via finder can access the default public folder, but can't access anything else.

Chatgpt suggest using rsync. But I want to actually see what I'm doing. Rsync doesn't let me do that.

I guess I could get a large USB drive basically sneakernet it.
But surely, surely there must be a way to copy files across the network without putting everything into a public folder.

I'm upgrading machines.

I have a new mac studio. From this machine I want to retrieve files that still live on my Mac desktop that runs Sequoia.

Using filezilla on the mac studio, I can access the sequoia machine.
However, I can't enter the Desktop and Documents directories.
(There are probably other directories I can't access either. I haven't tried many)

Filezilla gives me the error message:

I imagine that this has something to do with access permissions on the Sequoia machine.

How can I give myself permission to access the files?

I want the application bar to remain on primary screen.
