Would you try to restore/rebind this book? Or just leave it as is?

Its pages are falling out, the spine is gone, and it’s brittle. But I can’t bear the thought of letting it sit like this. I wouldn’t throw away the hardcover.

I took a book block and built a cover for it. Happy with how it came out.

I bought this Huck Finn 1st edition book block last spring. It was in rough shape with water stains and pages falling out. I had a choice: leave it as is, or try to restore it to some of its old glory. I have no intention of selling it for profit so I decided to build a cover for it.

I’d taken some bookbinding classes over the last year and have practiced making my own notebooks, clamshell boxes, etc. This book was a challenge though. I bought a roll of marbled paper and, using pvc glue, affixed it to some thick acid free paper (superfine soft white). After that, I took book cloth and affixed it to cardboard to make a cover. I applied mull to help keep the book block attached and then put on the marbled paper (which was the hardest part). I bought the title off of Etsy.

Overall, I’m very happy with how it came out!

If I wanted to go on Wegovy and stay at the lowest dose for a long while, would my monthly cost stay the same?

If I wanted to start Wegovy at the lowest dose and stay there for maintenance, would it stay at $149 a month via GoodRx.com or a similar online pharmacy?

Insurance won’t cover it (like many of us).

How do you deal with parents accusing you of being racist after reprimanding their child?

You likely know what I mean. You discipline a student or give them a bad grade and they happen to be a student of color. Of course, you aren’t targeting them because of their race, but the student goes home and tells their parents that they’re the only one who gets yelled at when it’s clearly not the case.

How do you respond to parents who jump to this conclusion without getting dragged into a war of attrition?

100mbps enough as a single guy who uses a lot of gadgets?

I live alone and just switched over to Verizon home internet 100 mbps. I stream Netflix, Prime, etc., use internet, and have my phone and smart TVs connected to the internet. I DON'T do any kind of online gaming at all.

I'm assuming 100 mbps will be more than efficient? I'm only using these things one at a time. I don't even download stuff often other than updates, which I guess is one of the major differences.

My dudes, don’t help guys cheat…

I just spent the last half hour talking to a guy about hooking up. Photos were hot, we were into the same thing, and we were about to exchange info to hook up when he said he couldn’t host because his gf was home. I asked if he was in an open relationship and he said no, she didn’t know at all. I blocked .

Guys, don’t help other guys cheat. It’s shitty and not worth the aggravation.

If I went back in time to 1860 USA and traveled around, what would I expect to see/experience in terms of personal grooming/bathing standards?

Did people use shampoo? A kind of deodorant? What would they smell like? What might I be surprised by?

Would you fix a book that’s missing pages?

I just got this first edition of Huck Finn but it’s missing pages a dozen or so pages. Part of me wants to replace the end papers and at least make it look presentable again but I’m reluctant to do it without the missing pages.

How good are hot foil stamping machines?

I have some cloth clamshell boxes and buckram covered hardcovers that I did myself that I’d like to title. I see hot foil stamping machines on Amazon but they start at $160 plus the brass stamping letters another $135-$300.

If I wanted to title my cloth clamshell boxes and hardcovers, what’s the best way to do it without breaking the bank?
