New rack!
Thanks to this sub for all the tips on building my own rack. Worked out perfectly. I added a couple of couple of modifications for stability. A stop on the bottom along the side and back of the center cinder block help hold the 2x4 in place.
I got fed up with running out of wood every winter as one rick just isn’t enough. Luckily, we don’t rely on wood for heat. It’s just for our fireplace, but I like to have one just about every night in the winter.
So built the rack on the right. Those dimensions equal a rick almost exactly, and then the store bought rack is obviously a rick. I’d like one more to really be able to stay ahead of the seasoning, so maybe this fall I’ll take that on.
The wood in the tall rack is all what I salvaged off the side of the road after the ice storm down here. A random mix of red oak, red maple, hackberry, magnolia, and lacebark elm. On the left is almost all red maple from a tree that my best friend lost in his yard. Hoping I can let most of that sit for a good 2 years before burning. But we’ll see.
Thanks to all for the help.
