Will F5000LFP run my 240V HVAC?

Wife is getting annoyed that I don't turn on the AC during peak hours. I'm thinking of getting a F5000LFP with an additional battery pack to resolve this issue. Will this run my HVAC for 3 hours? Below is the chart of watts used when cooling. Orange is the condenser and blue is the blower.

Can anyone recommend a transfer switch for my HVAC? Additional circuits for my refrigerator and LED lights would be nice for power outages.

As for charging, I am planning to charge at night for off peak rate. Solar will come later when I have the funds. The specs shows it can charge at 3600W with a 30A breaker. Is that safe to charge at 3600w continuously, from 0 to 100%, especially with an additional battery pack, adding to the time needed to complete the charge?

Last question. Where there big sales in past Black Fridays?

Cost in Gas to drive from Long Island to LA with '17 Prius Prime - $240.93

It is slow day at work and I went over my credit card statement and plotted out the gas stops. It cost $240.93 to drive from LI to LA. Drove from 6/27 to 7/1 with a '17 Prius Prime. It was fully loaded with furniture, clothing, appliances, etc., for my daughter's first job out of school.

I left with 100% charge and it quickly drained down before leaving LI. Did not plug in to charge at all during the trip. I did gain almost 50% in charge coming down the Colorado mountains.

I did not track the efficiency but but if I had to guess, it was probably around 45 to 50 MPG. Car was heavy and I kept up with traffic, rather than taking it slow for efficiency.

To my surprise, my daughter's rental apartment comes with a parking spot and all spots have J1772 charger. But the big surprise is the cost to charge, ~65¢ per kWh. 😬

What accessories do you have in your car that you love?

Here are a list of my accessories

  1. Dash Cam - a must for all cars with all the insurance frauds going around or dishonest parties involved in the crash. Get one to protect your asset.
  2. Android Auto / Apple Carplay - If you have an Aux port inside your arm rest compartment, get one for the wireless music streaming and navigation. Cost as low as $36. Find them on Walmart.com or Amazon.com
  3. Microfiber windshield cleaner. Helpful when the windshield gets dirty or foggy.
  4. Leather wrapped steering wheel cover. Feel so nice compared to my old pitted plastic steering wheel. Took a few hours to stitch but worth the effort.
  5. Bluetooth OBD2 scanner. Needed to get codes to troubleshoot issues on this almost 20 year old car. Now my car is trouble free but I keep it attached for any unexpected check engine light.
  6. On / off switch and extension cable for my OBD2 Device. Probably not needed but I keep it off when not in use.
  7. Remote control for my Android Auto / Apple CarPlay. Can adjust volume, skip, pause, play. Suppose to mount on the steering wheel but I found it annoying in that spot. I mounted it to the shifter.
  8. Phone mount to keep phone cool with AC blowing on the phone while charging.

Re-import "SSL client certificate [Experimental]" needed on iPhones after upgrade to v3

I upgraded to v3 few days ago and works great on my and my wife's Android Phone. Yesterday, my daughter reached out and told me that her Immich broke on her iPhone. After investigation, I reimported the mTLS cert and it fixed the problem for her. I reached out to my 2nd daughter and her iPhone also experienced this issue.

Previous v2 Immich upgrades didn't require a re-import. Just want to mention this since I didn't see this posted elsewhere. Hopefully this helps someone.

2027 Bolt - Waze only works in park

2027 Bolt with Android Automotive

Ran into this issue yesterday. Waze will not work while driving. I can only get it to show the map and navigation when I put the car in park. It works fine before this. Not sure what changed. Maybe the app was updated recently. Anyone else having this issue?

Google Maps works fine. I'll have to use it until Waze gets fixed.

2027 Bolt cabin blower fan noisy

Anyone find the 2027 Bolt blower fan a lot noisier then the 2023 Bolt EV? Anything above the lowest setting seems noisy to me. Wondering if my blower fan is defective. I'll ask the dealer about it when I go in for my 1 year service but that will be in April 2027.

PSA - Prius Gen 2 (2004 to 2009) Inverter Water Pump Failure creating a stall like condition

I posted this as a comment but that discussion got deleted. Just want to post this potentially dangerous safety recall for others to acknowledge.

Link: https://www.nhtsa.gov/?nhtsaId=12V536000

>Water Pump may Fail Causing a Vehicle Stall
The corroded coil wire may break and the water pump could stop. The corroded coil wire could cause a short circuit between coil wires and a possible open fuse, creating a stall-like condition of the hybrid system while the vehicle is being driven. This may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Toyota replace my water pump at around 62k miles under this recall campaign. That replacement water pump failed at around 250k miles. When it failed, my car stall at an intersection with the AM2 fuse blown. I wasn't able to restart the car and move it out of the way until I unplug the failed water pump and replace the fuse. It seems like Toyota didn't fix the problem. They just push back the problem by putting in a new pump.

For 2nd hand owners, you can check the Carfax to see if this was recall was done and at what milage. Just create a Carfax account an add your vehicle's VIN as the car you own. You can see the service history of your car for free.

If it was done 160k miles ago, you should consider getting it replaced.

The pic above is when I replaced the pump on the side of the road.

Gen 4, 100k maintenance and clearance deal

Starting with the clearance deal...

I found this on clearance wile preparing for my 100k miles maintenance. Volvoline Hybrid ATF on clearance at advanceautoparts.com. $1.45 / quart.

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/vlvln/50014386-P

Posting it here for those that haven't changed your ATF. Here are how to videos for ATF drain and fill.

Gen 4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDwtsGGaEGU

Gen 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HslleEGqP0c

Gen 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6ASV-MTtHQ

Note that these are random videos I found. I didn't fully watch them

As for my upcoming 100k miles on my 2017 Prius...

Already done

  • Brakes
    • New rotors and pads on all 4 wheels. Old ones have plenty of life left but it has been 9+ years. Figure it is best to replace them.
    • Bleed the brakes using techstream
  • New (1) rear bering hub assembly. It went bad and was howling on the highway
  • New tires and new TPMS sensor. Old TPMS sensors were fine. Just figure the battery will die soon.
  • 12v battery was replaced last year
  • Engine air filter was replaced last year

Need to do

  • Drain and fill engine coolant
  • Drain and fill inverter coolant
  • Drain and fill transmission fluid
  • Will probably do an oil and filter change too, if I am close to my oil change service interval
  • Check and clean or replace hybrid vent filter near the rear seats

Will wait

  • Spark Plugs - Will wait a year or two till I'm closer to 120k miles.

Am I missing anything?

Gen 2, 04-09 Used Brake Actuator off eBay

Anyone bought used brake actuator off eBay for a Gen 2 Prius? Are they any good? Most are listed as no returns accepted. What if I get a dud? Am I out of $$$ or will eBay back me up and get me a refund?

Mines is starting to re-pressurize every step on the brake pedal. Have a feeling it will fail soon. Getting ahead of that, I'm looking for a replacement for a weekend DIY project. I'm conformable on the technical side, with brake bleed and linear valve offset adjustment. Also done inverter coolant replacement before, so disconnecting and draining the inverter to get it out of the way should not be an issue. I need something to get me 2 to 3 years and then I'll probably get another car. With that in mind, eBay $200 - $300 pump makes more sense then new OEM that cost over $1,000... unless the consensus here is to avoid used actuator off eBay. If you been through this, let me know how it turned out.

Can someone walk to your 2027 Bolt at night without your key and check something for me? Don't bring the key so that you don't wake up your car. Check the button lights on the steering wheel and see if they are they on?

This is an update to my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BoltEV/comments/1s2t3un/insurance_totaled_my_2023_bolt_ev_1lt/

3rd party Insurance, State Farm totaled my 2023. That was a said day. They paid out a measly $15,309 + tax for my 2023 Bolt LT

  • Under 35k miles
  • Less the 3 years old
  • $1,490 in options that I added just to get heated seats
    • Driver Confidence Package
    • Comfort and Convenience Package.

I tried to argue with them that a nearly identical replacement cost $18,590 and provided this link to them https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/4259056#features-and-highlights

That got me nowhere as the comps they provided were from a different state and way before the gas price shot up and EVs became highly demanded. I gave up on getting more money form them.

As a replacement, wife and I decided on a 2027 Bolt LT with the Comfort Package. The MSRP is $29,990. Discounts received.

  • Dealer discount, $2,500
  • NYS EV rebate, $2,000
  • GM Credit Card rebait, $500

Happy to be back with this community. Here are a few pics.

Attaching the license plate. I asked to do this.

Installed my cargo privacy cover from the recked 2023. It is a bit short. Surprised 2027 didn't come with one.
