Group rides vs solo or partner rides

I am looking to mix my cycling up a bit, mostly just looking for routes that are new to me.

One way to do this seems to be to register for group rides- some of which are $150 and require a hotel stay.

My question to the group, just for chat purposes, is - are they worth it and if so what justifies the cost - versus say just betting a route map and hammering it on my own or with my riding buddies?

I also assume there is a bit of personal preference. I am trying to figure out if I want to ride with a hundred other people. Never done it and honestly I don’t even like the appeal of riding with 5 strangers. I keep a close few friends and we ride together or I ride along and seem to enjoy it beyond times like now when I am a bit bored with “the usual”

Appreciate your input and experience!!

Bike rack recommendations

I am looking at the two tray OneUp Super Duty or the new Kuat Piston.

Both seem very similar in price and features considering the Kuat comes with some of the upsells that 1Up offers.

Any thoughts on sturdiness or reliability or ease of use? This is my first rack and I am scared my bikes will end up on the highway 😅

Route Suggestions for SF/Marin

I am on break for a few weeks and thinking about taking my road bike from
San Jose to SF via CalTrain

Can you knowledgeable folks recommend safe and mostly flat routes? I am a regular cyclist normally do about 60 miles 1k elevation as I am a heavier rider.

Considering going across the GG just to say I did it but have no clue what I would run into up there.

Gen1 Launch Edition software grievance

Thought I’d throw this out there into the world..

Recently my Gen1 R1S LE has been restarting fairly randomly while driving. My music cuts out and then the whole thing hiccups or completely resets.

I noticed it happened often when I would
Have my turn signal on and thought it
Might have to do with the cameras.

Well today I was using Highway Assist, streaming via Bluetooth, and had navigation going. I got the dreaed error chimes and Highway Assist cut out, my podcast stalled, and then that was that. The podcast started again and I just had to hit Highway Assist. Minor hiccup.

Well, this happened no less than 3 times all on the same 45min drive.

Is this a processor issue or just buggy software? Ironically enough I thought about posting this when I got home and then this afternoon I see 2026.15.1 is out.

Interested to see if this helps but curious to what other owners think. I know there is a lot of talk about Gen1 LE owners being left behind. This is the first time I felt like that is true.

Power Meter Pedals - Do I need them?

Just wondering if I could get some input. I am thinking of forking out the $700 ish for the Garmin RK110 power meter pedals.

Tbh I dont want to spend the cash but I am wondering if the metrics will be worth it. I am a stats nerd though I understand analyzing my rides does not add to my fitness.

However I got Zwift back in November and a Garmin watch in December. I have had a Garmin head unit forever. So these seem like a logical step but thought Id ask the group chat… do I really need them why or why not.
