More elevation = less fog
Riding up Mt Tam, I find it really wild that I can start in the fog and then get above the clouds!

Use Southpark drive route or Golf Course road prior to wildcat canyon?
any particular suggestions CW vs CCW?
Some years ago there was a rash of armed robberies of cyclists in Oakland. Is this still happening across the bay? I'm not hearing much about it, but I'm in South Bay, not anywhere near Oakland hills.
Today I was stopped at a traffic light and two what looked to be teenagers/young adults pulled up on e-moto style bikes, one on my left and one on my right (I was in middle of lane). They started with "that bike looks expensive" and "are you rich", "are you going home from work" and I got this uncomfortable feeling that they were trying to assess how difficult of a victim I would be. When the light turned green, I went straight, they turned and went another way.
Am I overthinking this or is this a scenario that is known to end with criminal behavior?
I will have my bike decorations at the Arts & Crafts Fair in front of the USS Hornet -
Sunday July 4th, 10am-5pm
🚴💟🚴♀️💟🚴♂️
The Arts & Crafts Fair on the pier is FREE to enter, no ticket required.
(Ship tour / Beach BBQ requires tickets).
If you're biking around Alameda on Saturday stop on by. If you're looking for a particular design let me know so I can stock extra / put them aside for you!
707 W Hornet Ave, Alameda, CA 94501.

My bike is set up more like a rigid mtb. It’s a Velo Orange Polyvalent with a 34T front and 11-52T rear running flat bars with a small sweep. I run 27.5x2.2” XC tires. It’s set up for Briones and Shell ridge because that’s where I live. I’d prefer to avoid cars if possible and ride dirt or gravel. What’s the preferred route in this case?
Alright y'all. Where can I find a hammer route in the east bay that is low car stress semi flat (doesn't need to be flat all the way, just not straight up)
I'm coming from Seattle where the burke and places like mercer were excellent for this. Im trying to discover this in the bay now.
I'm open to road and gravel and routes! Though I'm new to gravel and hammering on gravel seems less zen than road hammering.
Or will bikes passing through be enforced? Grizzly Peak Road closes all day to prevent fireworks at viewing areas.
If not too foggy, would Hawk Hill be a good spot to view the July 4 fireworks from? Not sure if they are launching above the bridge or in front of the bridge on the east side.
I live in the peninsula (Belmont) but I've found that I like to start my rides around Woodside or Portola Valley. What are some good places to park out that way?
On Sundays I've parked in front of Jalisco's Grill (at Alpine and Portola) a bunch of times - they're closed Sundays so I don't think they mind. But is that a safe place to park the rest of the week? And are there any other good places? Maybe the Pearson/Arastradero Preserve Parking lot on Arastadero Rd?
Would also be interested in ideas closer to Woodside - maybe the Woodside Park and Ride?
Thank you!
Finally circumnavigated the entire bay without taking a ferry. It's a lovely route. The only sketchy part was the skyline drive road near Daly City... Rest was perfect.
A modification could be to take the bay trail instead. I just like the Santa Cruz hills -> reservoirs as it's prettier and I like hills
Started in Sunnyvale and went CW

Going CCW so that the dominant afternoon NNW winds give me a strong tailwind to blow me home (to the South Bay).
The Bay Trails are great on the Peninsula, but lacking on the East Bay side. (Yeah, I know the Hayward & San Leandro bay trails are awesome, but they are too bumpy if you need to go all day.). Mission Blvd is a great safe straight shot in the East Bay.
The ~$5 Ferry ride from Jack London Square to SF is just fantastic. A good 25 minute break midway.
Edit/Update: Thank you u/go_west_til_you_cant for making the route with ridewithgps:

This is indeed the same safe, mostly flat route with tons of variety, but a ferry ride needed to cross the bay!
Phew! Closing the bike lane really eases traffic!!
Thank you so much to the SF bicycle community!!! Friends, bike shops, coalitions, everyone shared our story and the thief was spotted!! He tipped the bike over and ran off on foot when an SFBC volunteer hollered at him stating that they knew the bike was stolen.

The thief threw away all our spare helmets and blankets we keep in the bike for the child passengers, but the bike is back!
Planning a loop ride from SFO, counterclockwise. I'm thinking I'll take BART out to Walnut Creek to get there before Rivendell closes, but do you see any major mistakes or misses in this route? 7.22-30, light touring on my Spacehorse, I'm a very experienced tourer but have never ridden this area before;
They did not even bother to put up signage this year.
Which would y'all choose? Caveats:
- I'm coming from road, so I like the speed of road bikes (and have never ridden mountain)
- I want to ride from my house (no driving) so some pavement is always involved (say 5-10 miles depending on route)
- I have a lauf seigla with a lauf fork in the front. No idea how this compares to mountain bike forks
- I don't desire to ride technical mountain bike terrain, but I will if it gets me to good routes
And, maybe the better question is what bike would you buy / build?
