Since California is legalizing plug-in solar systems, they also have a limit of 1.2 kilowatts per building.

How do they keep track of how many kilowatts of plug in solar a person has?

Would you go fined if you had more than 1.2?

or is that more of a safety thing because 1.2 KW is just below the limit of the 15a nema outlets and wires.

but let's say you had multiple systems plugged into different circuits in the house?

Does it make sense to try to install the traditional solar system if you can get plug in solar now?

Household is mostly retired people and working from home.

Heating and water and stove and dryer run on gas.

We have little energy usage after sunset

Trying to get a passive solar system with 12 panels and microinverters that I can buy and own. All the installers are trying to upsell me on a 5 year PPA financed system with a battery.

I am just not convinced that I need one, since its twice the price, and dealing with financing.

If I just need to offset daily usage and slowly charge an EV that's used as a local commuter, would a no battery system be sufficient?

Are they just trying to upsell the battery system to get more from the rebates? Or does it make actual sense?

Batteries come with the own issues too, they have a limited cycle lifespan, they can get damaged/stolen/ and its another fire hazard to deal with. I just dont know if it makes sense to charge a battery then use that battery to charge a car.

I have a heavy ebike with 26x2.3 tires.

standard tubes like Bell would last maybe a month sometimes even a day. They would go flat randomly sometimes over a potholes sometimes just on their own.

I tried using some ebay thorn resistant tubes, they last longer, but they would fail completely differently, like the valves would shear off.

What are the most bulletproof inner tubes that I would not have to change?

no tubeless won't work with these rims and yes I replace the tape and check the tires and rims for sharp objects every time. it's because of the weight, I have extra batteries on the bike. 2.3 in is the max the frame will fit. don't get flats on the front, only on the rear wheel.

Was talking to a national park ranger in california, and asked them about walking my bike to the last couple of miles where it says no bikes.

They said both the bike and the act of riding it are not allowed and I could be cited

Is this true? I don't understand why walking a bike would be an issue, it's not an electric bike so there's no risk of fire, it weighs 20 lb the same as a backpack, it has wheels but so does a baby stroller and those are allowed. I know the assumption is that someone would be riding it when there's nobody there and walking it when they see other people. But that would be pretty easy for a ranger to spot and cite. if I could somehow strap the bike to my back, surely that would be fine?

edit. I understand that some places don't allow bikes at all, but I'm talking about mixed use parks where you can find both bike trails and hiking trails connecting the bike trails. I'm also not talking about some popular trail like walking a bike to the forehead of mt rushmore, just some local trails where you may go 10mins without seeing another hiker. I get that it may inconvenience someone, but so do dogs and people who stumble around the trial without looking. We all share the trails and inconvenience each other sometimes, but it's a great thing if you can just say sorry and go about your day and not have to exchange insurance block traffic and deal with cops and fuck up everyone's day

I'm using a Samsung Odyssey with Windows 10 and steamvr, I can't figure out how to get into the game menu, there's no equivalent of an escape button on this controller.

For example I'm trying to turn down the volume of the other players in after the fall, and I can't figure out any way to get into a volume menu. Do I need to do this from steamvr or from within the game? I can only get into these menus on if it's like built into the game like in gorn. Wtf?

This is not work related, I'd like to be able to work on a home project from multiple computers without having to re-download the exact versions of each of the third party tools. These tools are all open source and publicly available, like tensorflow

in my development repo, I would just upload the entire project, libraries and the include files on GitHub, so when I clone it from another computer it just builds without issues.

I know for a publicly released project, it's supposed to link to other GitHub releases and build everything from scratch. So if I were to release it I would remove the third party tools

Is there any issue with actually doing this on GitHub though? Or is there a way to do it correctly if I include an open source license

I get this issue on every used bike I get, usually starts with a stock low end Shimano drivetrain. I replace the chain, the cassette, derailleur, but it doesn't fix it.

This is the best quality video I could get from one of the bikes that consistently does it

I know that it sometimes happens if the chain is too tight around 1 link and it pulls in 2 links at an angle until they match incorrectly on the derailleur cogs before reaching the man cassette, which is what seems to be happening here.

But this is not always the case, and I checked the chain every single link and a little bit and clean it even on a brand new chain it's still happening.

I make sure to get the correct gear number chain for the cassette, I speed in this case.

Is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Incorrect chain tension? Improperly bent derailleur cable? Mismatched components?

Or maybe something I overlooked, like derailleur wheels?

Is there a universal cause for this type of chain skipping?

And if I need to bite the bullet and get a new group set instead of getting the parts separately. Which components do I need to replace all at once? Derailleur/cassette/chain/shifter?/cable?/front speocket?/anything else?

It doesn't seem to be an issue of jumping gear to another gear so it seems like the deraileur is tuned correctly and switches through all the gears properly

It only skips under load, so I have to mount the phone to get a video while riding.

Few months ago was crossing a pedestrian bridge when the homesteader ​on it started flipping out and ​of course his dog was not leashed and started running after me.

Thankfully I had a throttle so I didn't have to dick around with changing gears and got away in a breath

buy my math I need to be able to hit 30 in emergency and use a throttle because this has not worked as well on slower bikes

I know there's many other arguments that can be debated like being able to ride with the stop and go traffic without changing gears holding up cars, or being able to get home on a hub motor ​when your drive train fails. But in this case I'd rather just get a ticket and argue with the cob than be attacked by another rapid dog. or at least be able to pull my feet up to safety and ride away. I feel like it's a ​failure of public services and infrastructure in usa and is not a scapegoat problem of ebikers

side note you probably going to say I shouldn't have been on the pedestrian bridge or have turned around but it ​was literally the only way for miles, and I did start out by walking the bike and it was a very neglected part of the shared bike path. I use the e-bike to get to work and don't terrorize pedestrians, would love to use my noce road bike but its just not an option with all the lawlessness going on

Is the trek domane gen 4 al 4 with the hydraulic brakes going to be the best budget gravel bike for doing like 50% road 50% trails going up from San Francisco to Santa Rosa area and back?

If someone has this bike, would you get something different that's not significantly out of the price range?

I want the modern geometry but I want to start with a cheaper bike.

the problem is I can't find any flat bar gravel bikes with the modern aluminum frames and carbon forks, only chromoly frames

Unfortunately, all the drop bar bikes in the sub $1k range (used) will have mechanical disk brakes and 2x gearset.

I really prefer the 1x for simplicity of tuning and hydraulic brakes

also would prefer an alloy frame and no crazy headset cable routing again for maintenance and simplicity.

Is there a bike I can get that would have the same geometry as a modern gravel bike that I can mount Surly Corner bars to and use the MTB components?

something like a specialized chisel, I know it's not the same geometry, but it's in the right ballpark for weight and price.

finding a used gravel bike is also pretty difficult, everything on marketplace is either ancient or overpriced. I briefly owned the pos g1 explorer and had 20 people make offers on it everyday when I sold it. so I do not intend on using a Walmart bike for this project

Or would that never be as fast or comfortable as a new gravel bike. the use case for this would be long 100mile+ rides with 50% road. So I would want to have pretty aggressive range of gearing

I was later told that each bike owner must have some paperwork assigned to each bicycle

Is it true or is this only applicable to high end store bought bikes?

Is there an issue of riding a bike without a serial number?

What if I brought one from another country with me, can I ride it without issues?

since I bought them with cash do I need to carry screenshots of my conversations with the bike owners from marketplace?
