Everyone is so sad lately

It seems like every post I see on this (and others) sub is people being overworked, underpaid, exhausted, hungry and desperate. And I get it. Things are messed up right now and we are all struggling. Some more than others. We all feel like we’re in a never ending hamster wheel of doom.

Having said that, I’m hoping we can maybe start a thread of some good things that have happened to us lately. Something as simple as seeing a pretty flower or finding a butterfly (thanks for the reminder Elmo).

I’ll start. I met these puppies and they are the cutest little drunk floppy clumsy puppies I have ever seen. They’re Tibetan mastiffs. A friend of mine has a male already. They’re so floofy and cute and also massive but so floppy.

So, what’s something good that happened to you lately?

What’s your process?

I’m curious about others’ grooming routines. I’m a solo salon that does one on one so I handle the dog from beginning to end.

My current process is
-preclip (if taking off majority of length or if matted, if not I skip this step)
- bath (two shampoos and one condition)
- dry (high velocity dryer and fluff dry face)
- left side body shave (shave left side of body and down left legs, paws)
- left side leg shaping and paw shaping, nails (if they’ll tolerate it)
- repeat last two steps on right side
- sanitary trim and making sure back profile is symmetrical (looking straight toward bum area)
- shave down neck and behind ears from base of skull
- shave head (or scissor, depending on cut and breed)
- shape muzzle and cheeks and visor etc
- trim and shape ears
- Trim tail
- one more pass over the entire body with clippers
- nails (if they didn’t tolerate it mid groom)
- bows or bandana
- let them do a lap around the room so I can double check for weird looking spots
-call parents
- out for a pee break
- done!

Depending on the dog size, breed, condition and temperament this takes anywhere from 1 hour for small to 3 hours for a larger doodle. I’m curious what others processes are and if I can save some time somewhere!

I’m so tired 😂

Farm dog season wears me the **** out 🥵. Now excuse me while I go scrub every inch of myself because I feel like I’m covered in ticks

My retirement plan is death

ETA - I’m 40/f rural Canadian

I have always worked entry level retail jobs. Then about 10 years ago started working for myself. Because of that I have no pension, no benefits, nothing. I can’t afford to “put some away for a rainy day”. Every dollar has a purpose right now.

I’m 40 years old and doing what I love. I have a good work life balance, and can afford the basic needs such as car (I’m rural so this is a must), tv subscriptions etc, but no retirement in my future. No fancy inheritance, in fact I’m sure I’ll inherit debt.

My job is physical (dog groomer) and I know I can’t do it forever. But I also can’t spend 8000 on an office admin certificate that every office or reception position seems to want these days.

I’m not suicidal, I will work until I physically cannot anymore, but my retirement plan is death.

I have set of wahl steel combs I’ve been using for over a year but some of them are getting bent etc. I bought a set of shernbao steel combs because the wahl was out of stock. However there’s a sizeable difference in the length of each comb compared to the wahl. Why is this?? It says they’re both 6 mm. But that’s a big difference in length to me

I’m at my wits end with this thing. Whatever attachment I have to th dryer always goes flying off. Like every 2 minutes I’m chasing it around the salon. I’m not exaggerating. I’ve tried taping the hand held part to make it more secure, but not helping. Why don’t these dryers have clips or something??

Farm dogs need regular maintenance grooming too. This cost them $300. And I better see her back in 6 weeks.

ETA - this is an 8 year old Pyrenees. Couldn’t stand or even sit long so most of this was done on the floor.
