The tuning pegs are so much better?!?? I’m wondering if this is a thing that people have strong opinions on, as I can’t seem to find folks talking about this.
This often gets brought up as a favorite from Bazooka Tooth, and I’ve seen many remarks about how cool it is, how awesome the tribute to graffiti is, so on and so on. I agree with all of these assessments, but also want to add some thoughts which I haven’t seen online.
The emotional core of the track seems incredibly sad. Like he didn’t even think of writing a happy lyric. It’s a graffiti appreciation song, but the appreciation is angry and in spite of something. Simple appreciation, but twisted through basically everything the world has to offer until it’s an incredibly complex song with lyrics that don’t really resonate until you‘re well-acquainted with them, and a big picture that’s partly just a ton of small pictures. He’s clearly purging tons of built-up emotions rather than having any space to song-ify a presently felt one.
This is mirrored extremely well with the instrumental, which I consider every element of to be a stroke of genius. I mean seriously, who thinks of this shit??? You’ve got an overflowing breakdancing coronation composed of two sets of drums, with two distorted lead things, one always playing and moving and one coming in sometimes hammering the root note, one swirling/stuttering and one silent/stuttering, thesis statement bleeps, the seriously iconic brass hit, an occasional all-consuming synth wash, rather minimal, actually grounded bass, and an incredibly simple, sad, slow pad over everything, all in A minor. The super syncopated chopping and scratching of everything, as well as the standard Aesopian beat being morphed around his vocals ties everything together. An 11/10 instrumental for the ages. The intro is monumental, and I wish they put at least the music video version in TH:UG2 lol.
Additionally, the way this song hits in context with his career thus far makes everything even more interesting. What I said about purging emotions vs. having space comes up here. The way sad Aes takes simple ideas and emotions and talks about every which way they show up in the world in the highest non-redundant runtime possible is directly contrasted in Bird School, where happy Aes uses emotional space to take what he knows about the world and conjure the most potent form of “enjoy little things” he can get. ‘tis a top-down track where you get the main theme and then the lyrics instead of the other way around. With hi-fi mixing. A perfect midpoint between these is Five Fingers, exemplary of why NSP is the most Aes Aes album imo. All of these are my favs from their respective albums which I never noticed till now.
So yeah, all of this combines to make No Jumper Cables one of the most fascinating tracks I’ve ever heard, in a way I only saw described in one comment about the music video: “finding beauty in the slums”. Hope you enjoyed reading :333
It no longer feels like readily available information to find out what parts are stopped, what parts are still on, how the governor‘s actions affect all of this, what the task force talked about on 9/2/26 (seriously, no articles on an hour-long meeting in the current year is deliberately obtuse), or how far along this is/what Verrus is even doing at the moment.
Feel free to put anything you know in the comments, I’d be happy to try and make this stuff closer to normal person information.

And you realize how much he‘s absolutely torched this track. It continues to floor me.
Okay so long story short, I moved to a new neighborhood and applied to a gardening group that meets on Tuesdays because I‘m not living for anything. Much to my surprise, I was actually accepted, and it’s quickly sank in that we meet in four days! I’ve literally never gardened before in my entire life. Like, idk what pruning is. But I’d feel better maintaining a city park with a little bit more than that.
The list of tasks they perform is as follows:
They provide pitchforks, wheelbarrows, and shovels, whereas I gotta bring my own weeders, pruners, drinking water, gloves, “etc.” Apparently, some people opt to deadhead roses.
Where do I even go to learn what this stuff is? And how to do it? Can I be competent at at least one of these in the next four days? Are they possible to practice?
Worst case, I’ll read up on general gardening info, but some steering would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading.
