Pickup placement

Pickup placement

I’ve had my eye on some sort of SG for a while. Lots of the SG type guitars from Firefly have the bridge pickup too far from the bridge.

I’ve never even held an SG, but it’s my understanding that the bridge pickup should be right next to the bridge. This allegedly gives it the distinct voice of an SG.

This one seems to get the placement correct! Anybody know more about this phenomenon and/or have any of the Firefly SG copies?

Glacial activity?

These areas of shore are usually underwater. The lake is extremely low. Why do there appear to be big paths near boulders like this? And it’s weird that the smaller rocks all pile up against them. Did glaciers move around all the smaller debris, but the biggest boulders stay in place? OR maybe just something with the (almost) yearly winter freeze?

And I’m starting to really doubt this now, but I think the board is unrelated.

Northeast Massachusetts

Next to a fairly small lake. Normally under water, but the lake is extremely low this year.

Ola’s tone

I was watching Ola’s newest video. He just got an Ibanez Jcustom 8540 piii. When he takes it into the studio and starts playing, the tone is sick.

Does anybody know what his signal chain might be like? I know he has all kinds of amps, and I’m pretty sure he uses interfaces and amp sims as well.

I guess I’m just trying to get an idea of where to start to get a tone like that. It’s a similar tone that I’ve noticed in some of the Killer Be Killed stuff. I believe it’s Max’s guitar. Specifically “From a Crowded Wound”. Right in the intro, especially the palm-muted chugs. I use amp sims and a (really good) headphone amp, but I don’t know where to start for that tone.

Takeout

Just picked up a sub from the sub place 20 minutes before they close

Pay with a card

Tip amount comes up. I live next-door to the place. This is the first time I’ve come over here and I don’t care how good the sub is, I’m never coming back.

Beauty and the Beast

With the unfortunate passing of Peabo Bryson, the pop version of the theme featuring Céline Dion and Peabo Bryson has been on my radar.

At approximately 2:13, there’s a weird phenomenon in the song. I don’t know how to describe it.

To me, it sounds like it’s a forced climax or something. It doesn’t fit into the tempo or the measure or the beat in general. I don’t know how else to explain it, but I think it’s a mistake that was left alone because they figured the masses wouldn’t notice.

Unfortunately, nobody else I talk to about this seems to agree with me. So, honestly, I’m considering the possibility that I’m nuts.

Please, if you’ve read this much, listen from around 2:00 thru 2:20 and please tell me what’s going on and why it sounds so wrong to me

Thanks!!
