Journey has been delisted from the PS3 Store

Some really sad news to share today from the UK’s PS3 Store. With the recent shutdown announcement, I had decided to download some of the free game demos, and have been trying a few things out to see what I’d like to purchase.

A few days ago, I downloaded the demo for Journey, the acclaimed exploration game from the creators of Flow and Flower.

I’m not able to afford every game I’d like, so today I was browsing the store and checking out how much everything cost and how that correlates with what’s in my PlayStation Wallet (obviously never enough to buy anything, but every penny counts).

I go to search for Journey and… Nothing. It shows some of the costumes available in other games, but not the game. I look for the demo again in the general Games section, even narrowing it down to Demos and Action & Adventure… Literally nothing.

Since I have the demo and it’s in my downloads, I decide to boot it up. At the earliest opportunity, I pause the demo and hit the square button to purchase the full game. That’s when I reached the screen at the top of this post.

In a year’s time, every PS3 Store game is going to have that page. And this proves that it can come even sooner than that. Today it’s Journey, tomorrow it could be Jet Set Radio, and eventually they will all be gone.

This time, we got lucky. There is a Journey Collector’s Edition that was physically released. I found it for sale on CEX (that’s where the link leads), and at £25 it is expensive but not exorbitantly so (although I expect this to change at some point).

It also comes with Flow and Flower, so these will also be preserved (and I believe it comes with the relevant DLC?). However, there are countless games that do not have this luxury, and there’s really no telling what games will go next.

An unrealised zoo plan: The Reader’s Digest “Zoo of the Future”

(I’ve checked the rules and found nothing mentioning this type of post, so hopefully it’s allowed? I do feel it’s very relevant and could facilitate a lot of discussion and potential builds, which is why I’ve decided to share it here 🙂)

This is a 50 year old plan dreamt up by San Diego Zoo for a “Zoo of the Future”, from the book Our Magnificent Wildlife: How To Enjoy and Preserve It. As far as I can tell, it has never been adapted into a build in either real life or in any 3D simulation.

That’s why I decided to share it here on the subreddit, in case anyone would like to tackle it (or take inspiration from its ideas). Some of the artistic depictions are a little unrealistic (for example, why is there an Asian Elephant in a small pool next to the petting zoo?), but it’s a very unique and novel look at what real zoo designers have come up with for their ideal “perfect” build.

Are there any good retrospectives on the Wilderness Years?

I grew up during the wilderness years of the franchise, directly between JP3 and JW, so that period is really nostalgic for me.

But I haven’t been able to find any retrospective videos on that time, aside from maybe some of The Gaming Beaver’s old action figure film rewatches. There was genuinely a period where the Jurassic Park franchise was seen as a closed chapter, where the closest thing to a new movie were the occasional video game (and iirc correctly, only Jurassic Park: The Game served as any kind of a new story).

I’m still very glad the World era of the franchise happened, because we badly needed something new to stop it becoming the next Back to the Future or Mad Max (I know the latter has since had more films, but it also went through a long period of dormancy).

So that’s what I really want to see videos/articles on: Jurassic Park’s existence between those two key movies, and how it shaped the community in that period 🦖
