Journey has been delisted from the PS3 Store
Some really sad news to share today from the UK’s PS3 Store. With the recent shutdown announcement, I had decided to download some of the free game demos, and have been trying a few things out to see what I’d like to purchase.
A few days ago, I downloaded the demo for Journey, the acclaimed exploration game from the creators of Flow and Flower.
I’m not able to afford every game I’d like, so today I was browsing the store and checking out how much everything cost and how that correlates with what’s in my PlayStation Wallet (obviously never enough to buy anything, but every penny counts).
I go to search for Journey and… Nothing. It shows some of the costumes available in other games, but not the game. I look for the demo again in the general Games section, even narrowing it down to Demos and Action & Adventure… Literally nothing.
Since I have the demo and it’s in my downloads, I decide to boot it up. At the earliest opportunity, I pause the demo and hit the square button to purchase the full game. That’s when I reached the screen at the top of this post.
In a year’s time, every PS3 Store game is going to have that page. And this proves that it can come even sooner than that. Today it’s Journey, tomorrow it could be Jet Set Radio, and eventually they will all be gone.
This time, we got lucky. There is a Journey Collector’s Edition that was physically released. I found it for sale on CEX (that’s where the link leads), and at £25 it is expensive but not exorbitantly so (although I expect this to change at some point).
It also comes with Flow and Flower, so these will also be preserved (and I believe it comes with the relevant DLC?). However, there are countless games that do not have this luxury, and there’s really no telling what games will go next.
