Brackish Fish

Since we found out PZ2 is going to have brackish aquarium animals, I've been curious what some of the communities most wanted brackish fish would be. I'm not the most familiar with brackish life.

Archer fish are an obvious pick, love them.

Dragon Gobys as well, I think they are really weird and cool looking.

Mono fish would make a good schooling fish for brackish tanks.

Armored sea catfish are a good pick as well.

What brackish fish/aquatic animals are you guys hoping for?

Here is a request that I already imagine will never be fulfilled. But 🙏

I’m not saying this to play the victim; it’s just completely understandable that they won't add it, since I’ve never seen anyone else ask for. Plus, we just got a South American chelonian, even though it's natively endemic to just one island (the Galapagos giant tortoise). The one in the pictures is a Red-Footed Tortoise, more specifically a Cherryhead Red-Footed Tortoise. (And here I’m being even more demanding, since the Cherryhead is a variant. So on top of the Red-Footed, I’m asking for this specific morph, though it’s still the same animal). Anyway, it's more of a personal thing. I didn't just look up some exotic animal on the internet; they are actually found in zoos, like in Canada. They are also native to both the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon—two diverse ecosystems and potential reserves, considering other already confirmed animals like the Toco Toucan or the Golden Lion Tamarin. This highlights the importance of these places and how much they need to be preserved from urbanization and exploitation, respectively.

The red-footed tortoise is a crucial seed disperser like many other tortoises, as it tends to travel long distances, and it’s a species that has always meant a lot to me. (You don't really need to read past this point)

As a child, I remember playing with one that belonged to my aunt. She (the tortoise) was already an adult, and for a kid who didn't leave the house and therefore had no friends, that tortoise was one. Well, maybe just because she couldn't run fast enough to get away from me, lol. She was with me during a phase where a lack of socialization could have really affected me, which made her passing a core memory.

Wishlist Wednesday, feat. my own photos

EDIT: Okay some of these definitely didn't upload properly and IDK why, so my apologies!

It's Wishlist Wednesday again! This time I've added some animals I hope to see in PZ2 and used photos I took myself! I've been very lucky to see all of these species in the wild!

Additionally I know some are already in PZ1 but I'd really like to see them in PZ2 as well!

Weird question but,. What subspecies is the Galapagos Tortoise in these games really?

Galapagos tortoises range a lot, from shell shape to eating habits there’s at least 14 types of these guys just knocking about,.. soo now I’m just curious on which one the PZ animal is based on,. Has it ever been confirmed anywhere or is this a situation where we just, have to guess?

I know theres a chance its is not based on a single subspecies and is some John Tortoise but still, im curious now

I’m running on 4 hours of sleep and a can of Pepsi soo I thought I’d share this here to spark a discussion at least. I’ll join in later, but first I need rest

Visiting other gamer's zoo

I wish we could have a list of all players having online zoos, and we could visit them like a regular visitor only.

And if I'm the player hosting the visitors, I could see them walk around like we can see the inspector walking around ☺️

Reimagining PZ1 DLC for PZ2! Pack 2: South America Pack

The South America Pack was the 2nd DLC for Planet Zoo!

Since everyone really loved the first post I made about birds & aquatic animals for the Arctic DLC, I'm back with #2! And boy is this one hard - while "Arctic" is a pretty niche ecosystem for captive animals, the biodiversity of South America made this sooooo difficult. The Amazon alone is home to so many birds and fish that this makes this one almost unreasonably limited.

With that said, I think there are some clear standouts, as well as some new thoughts.

Everyone is going wild over the thoughts of Macaws in the game, and truthfully I hope we have something similar to the Llama situation when this DLC was released - Ara Macaw as a genus, with a variety of color morphs (scarlet, blue-throated, etc.) representing different species. That way we can have a variety of beautifully colored flocks.

With that said, the hyacinth macaw is a completely different genus of bird! It has much rarer due to its conservation status, and much larger than its cousins in the Ara Macaw genus.

I may be cheating with hummingbirds but South America alone is home to over a hundred different species! If we can do butterfly walkthrough exhibits, then I certainly believe we can have a hummingbird walkthrough exhibit, than can double as a beautiful location for all the beautiful flora that comes with this pack.

The Andean Condor is an iconic and massive bird that represents the mountains of South America and very much fits with our Llama friends I mentioned earlier from this pack.

As for fish, again it felt like I was painted into a corner for some of the most popular and iconic fish in the world - the red-bellied piranha and the arapaima are no brainers (and the striking red colors of their models would be beautiful in fresh-water aquariums)!

On the other hand, the new aquatic features we're getting meant I wanted to throw in a curve ball. How COOL would it be to see the Marine Iguana swimming in our aquarium tanks with the fish, and then sunning themselves with the Giant Tortoises confirmed yesterday???? Excellent group habitat!

Lastly - I had to cheat a little with 1 specific honorary mention. The golden temple pieces that come with the South America scenery are so kitschy and fun. HOW can you possibly build your El Dorado themed zoo if you don't have golden dorados glimmering in their own aquarium tanks??????

What do you think? What other birds or aquatic animals am I missing? See you next Wednesday!

Marketplace app

I know this will likely never happen but when im playing franchise and theres an animal i want for a project that isnt on the market i would love an app

The app is connected to your account and u can post and buy animals whenever u want

This would make trading so much easier aswell

Just wanted to share my thought

I made a sloth so I could have them outside of the walkthrough exhibit

I wanted something to put in my implied sloth habitat, but I couldn't find anything on the workshop I liked. This new Headdress piece is so perfect for fur, I had to give it a try! I think it came out quite well, though maybe I should have used something other than a potato for the face lmao
