Multiview 1.8 for Tablo is now available on Apple TV and Google TV

I'm the developer of the Multiview app, and I wanted to share that the latest update is now available on Android phones, tablets, and Google TV as well as on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It includes recent playback and interface improvements while also including substantial work specifically for Android devices.

Multiview now makes better use of the video capabilities available on each device, which should make multiple simultaneous streams smoother and more reliable.

The app supports compatible Tablo Gen 4 and Tablo Legacy devices. Gen 4 users can sign in with their Tablo account and choose whether Tablo FAST channels appear. Compatible Legacy devices can be discovered on the local network automatically or added manually. Live channels can be placed into layouts with up to four streams, and compatible Tablo recordings can be browsed through the Library.

The latest release focuses on performance and reliability.

  • Faster Guide browsing. Moving between channels and program times should feel more responsive.
  • More reliable multiview playback. Several causes of stuttering, frozen video, unnecessary reloads, and failed stream changes have been addressed.
  • Improved TV navigation. Remote focus and navigation are more consistent across Home, Guide, Library, Settings, and playback controls.
  • Improved PIP and layout controls. Move smaller streams, change the main stream, and manage layouts without interrupting playback.
  • Library improvements. Better browsing and playback for compatible recordings, movies, shows, and episodes.

Single-stream viewing is free. Multiview Pro unlocks multiple simultaneous streams and costs $9.99 as a one-time purchase per platform. There are three 15-minute Pro trials so you can test multiview playback with your own devices and sources before purchasing.

One Apple purchase covers supported Apple devices. One Google Play purchase covers supported Android and Google TV devices. Purchases do not transfer between the two stores.

If you it out, I would love to hear how it performs for you. Please include your streaming device, generation Tablo device, and the number of streams you were playing if you encounter a problem.

Multiview 1.8 is now available on Android and Google TV

The latest update is now available on Android and Google TV, bringing over the recent playback and interface improvements while also including substantial work specifically for Android devices.

Multiview now makes better use of the video capabilities available on each device, which should make multiple simultaneous streams smoother and more reliable.

This is particularly noticeable on some lower-cost Google TV devices. In my testing, an onn 4K Streaming Box that previously topped out at three streams can now play four when the necessary video decoders are available. Actual results will still depend on the device, source, stream formats, and network, but I'm confident users will notice a difference.

Please let me know what feedback you have. Thanks to everyone who took the time to provide feedback so far.

Have you tried Auto Pause yet?

If you're watching library content and passively watching a game, trying turning on Auto Pause for the show. It'll pause when you switch audio to the game. Switch back, and it picks up where you left off.

You can turn on Auto Pause from the on-demand video’s menu in Watch.

Have you tried it? Does it work the way you’d expect?

Multiview is now on macOS

For the first time, Multiview is available on macOS!

In addition to being able to run the iPad app on your M-series Macs, you can now download a native macOS Multiview app. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/multiview-sports/id6753928061

Since this is the first Mac release, and I don’t expect everything to be perfect. If you give it a try, I’d love to hear what works well, what feels awkward, and what’s missing.

If you run into a bug, sharing your Mac model, macOS version, and what you were doing will help me track it down. Screenshots are always welcome too.

As always, thanks for trying it out and helping make Multiview better!

What's New in Multiview 1.8.0 for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad

I’ve been working through bugs and everyday annoyances in Multiview, along with some bigger improvements to watching, managing channels, and using Library. I wanted to put together a fuller list of what’s changed since 1.7.1 on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. Android and Google TV is a fast follow.

Thanks to those who contributed to the paper cuts thread and who reached out privately. That feedback has been helpful, and I’d love to hear how these changes work with your setups.

  • All Apple TV layouts now stay fullscreen. Controls appear over the video and automatically hide when you’re done using them. Bringing up controls no longer shrinks your layout. Whether you’re watching one stream or four, the video uses the screen.
  • A better single-stream experience on Apple TV. The fullscreen changes help here too. Open a channel, let the controls disappear, and watch without switching into a separate viewing mode.
  • Fullscreen mode is now Audio Focus mode. Since every Apple TV layout is already fullscreen, this mode is specifically for moving between streams with the remote to change which one you’re listening to. Enter it manually, or enable Auto Audio Focus to enter it when the controls hide. You can turn that on in the Watch menu or by long pressing the Audio Focus button.
  • Live preview and improved performance in the Apple TV Guide. See what’s on while browsing channels. I’ve also improved guide navigation, including keeping the time you’re browsing consistent as you move between channels.
  • More flexible PIP controls. On Apple TV, move the smaller streams around the screen, tuck them off an edge when they’re covering something, and bring them back. You can also cycle which stream fills the main screen without rearranging your layout. Hidden streams keep playing.
  • A new IPTV channel manager. Build your own lineup under "My channels" instead of having your entire provider catalog in the guide. Search by name, number, or group, preview channels before adding them, and add or remove channels individually or in bulk. Selection works across pages and filters, with Undo for bulk changes. New IPTV sources start with an empty lineup so you can choose what you want. Existing sources keep their visible channels. New channels from your provider stay hidden by default until you add them.
  • Custom IPTV names and numbers. Give channels your own display names and numbers without changing playback or guide matching. If a selected channel disappears from your provider’s catalog, you can review it under Unavailable without losing your saved selection and edits.
  • IPTV movies and series in Library. "Manage Library Groups" lets you choose which on-demand groups to include. Enabled groups include future additions, while newly discovered groups stay off until you choose them. Movies and series stay separate from your live lineup. Catalog and guide loading have also been reworked for large providers, with guide data loaded for your selected channels.
  • Next-episode autoplay. Library can advance through supported episode sequences, with an Up Next prompt and options to play now or cancel. It’s enabled by default and can be turned off in Playback settings. Only the stream you’re listening to advances automatically, so another pane won’t run through a show unattended. Missing episodes or uncertain recording order require a manual choice.
  • Better Library browsing and playback. Updated series and episode details, season selection, viewing progress, Continue Watching/Up Next information, and Start Over actions. Finished content has an explicit restart action, and a known next episode can be queued for when you return.
  • Auto Pause for Library streams on Apple TV. If you’re watching a show or recording alongside something else, this optional setting pauses it when you switch audio away and resumes when you switch back. Useful for keeping a show alongside a game without missing dialogue. You’ll find it in the Library stream’s menu.
  • Better source selection and fallback. For channels available on multiple HDHomeRun devices, Automatic follows your source priority and can try another matching source when the preferred device can’t serve the stream. Choosing a specific source keeps that stream on your selection. The source picker better reflects what’s connected or connecting, and there’s an optional source-name overlay while editing.
  • More complete iCloud sync. Hidden-channel selections now sync across Apple devices. With iCloud Sync enabled, IPTV playlist details and Xtream Codes credentials can also sync through private iCloud app storage, including to Apple TV. For existing sources, open the updated app on the device where you originally added the IPTV source so those details can sync.
  • Updated saved layouts on iPhone and iPad. Better previews and management controls make it easier to see what’s in a layout, start watching, or make changes.
  • Playback and setup fixes throughout. Program information in Watch updates without needing to visit Guide first. There are improvements to Plex connection recovery, tuner allocation, buffering indicators, and playback retries, plus iPhone/iPad PIP fixes around paused or finished content. Onboarding, trial status, and purchase screens have also been cleaned up, including fixes for restoring an active trial and returning to single-stream playback.

If something you reported is still bothering you, please bring it up again. If a change makes something harder to use, I want to hear that too.

For issues, please include:

  • Your device and app version
  • Which sources you’re using
  • What happened and what you expected instead
  • Steps to reproduce it, even if it only happens sometimes

Thanks for helping me make Multiview better!

Still having trouble with Tablo on the Android Multiview App?

Many Android reviews mention issues using Tablo with Multiview, and I’d like to hear whether you’re still running into them. A far as I'm aware, those issues are resolved, yet there was a recent review suggesting otherwise.

If you’re having trouble, could you share:

  • Your Android device and Multiview app version
  • Which Tablo model you’re using
  • What’s going wrong - discovering your Tablo, loading channels, playback, or something else
  • Whether it happens every time or only occasionally

If it’s working well for you, that’s helpful to know too. Thanks for helping get clarity!

What are biggest Multiview paper cuts?

I’m putting together a list of bugs and everyday annoyances to tackle in Multiview, and I’d love your input.

What’s the one thing that gets in your way? A recurring bug, an awkward interaction, a setting that won’t stick, or something that takes more steps than it should - all fair game. I want to make the next release a bug bash.

Apple and Android feedback are both welcome. If you can, include:

  • Your device and app version
  • What happens, and what you expected instead
  • Steps to reproduce it, even if it only happens sometimes

If someone already mentioned yours, upvote it or add details about your setup. And if you’ve reported something before that’s still bothering you, feel free to bring it up again.

Thanks for helping me make Multiview better!

Jellyfin support is now available in Multiview App 1.7.0 on Apple TV and iOS

Multiview now supports Jellyfin on Apple TV and iOS! Look for version 1.7.0. Android is under review, but look for 1.7.0 to be released for Android soon.

If you’ve been waiting for this, give it a try with your server and let me know how it goes. I’d love to hear what’s working well and where you’re running into problems.

If something isn’t working, include your device, Jellyfin server version, and what happened.

What’s your setup, and how is it working for you?

What’s new in Multiview since 1.5.0 - faster IPTV, better source management, global search, macOS, and more

There have been quite a few changes since version 1.5.0 across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android, Google TV, and now Mac.

Some of this is already available, while the next group of improvements is being prepared for release.

Available now

The below improvements are already available in iOS and tvOS and largely available in Android. Currently waiting for the 1.5.3 Android release to be approved for the IPTV performance improvements and 1.6.0 for a fix to the Plex Preferred Connections.

Major IPTV performance improvements

Large IPTV lineups should now load and respond much better, especially playlists with thousands-or tens of thousands—of channels.

  • Lower memory usage while importing M3U, Xtream Codes, and XMLTV data
  • Faster channel caching, filtering, favorites, and guide searches
  • Less work on the main UI thread
  • Import progress so it’s clearer when a large source is still loading
  • IPTV group browsing and bulk show/hide controls
  • More responsive channel management on TV devices
  • Better handling of channel identities, logos, and duplicate listings

Obligatory disclaimer: Multiview does not provide IPTV service or content; these features are for compatible sources you already have and are authorized to use.

Better channel and source organization

  • Hide or restore channels in bulk
  • Manage entire IPTV groups
  • Improved favorites and channel filtering
  • Better handling when the same channel is available from multiple sources using similar but different channel identifiers
  • Improved source labels and source-specific channel identity

DVR and library improvements

  • HDHomeRun DVR recordings can now appear in the Library
  • Better Plex and Tablo library reliability
  • Improved artwork sizing across phones, tablets, and TVs
  • Provider failures are better isolated, so one unavailable source is less likely to empty the entire Library
  • Plex library caches now refresh when the selected connection or server changes

TV experience improvements

  • Redesigned layout cards and multiview editor on Apple TV
  • Better D-pad focus and navigation on Android and Google TV
  • Improved guide loading states, source screens, channel pickers, and layout editing
  • Clearer handling of legacy and current generation Tablo devices

Plex Preferred Connection and remote access

Plex users can now choose how Multiview should connect to each server. The new Preferred Connection setting supports:

  • Automatic connection selection
  • Local network/LAN
  • Direct remote/WAN connections
  • Plex Relay
  • Custom connection addresses, including compatible private-network configurations This makes it possible to use a remotely accessible Plex server instead of requiring Multiview to be on the same local network, including when your server is connected Tailscale device. The selected route is prioritized, while alternative advertised connections remain available as fallbacks. Changing the preference also refreshes Plex channels, library content, artwork, and playback URLs so an old connection does not remain cached.

To add a custom URL to your Plex server, navigate to the Network settings for your server and enter the accessible URL in Custom server access URLs

Coming soon in 1.6

Global search

A new search experience is coming across Apple and Android devices. One search can find:

  • Channels by name, number, or call sign
  • What’s live now
  • Programs coming up next
  • Movies, shows, episodes, and other Library content

Cached results appear immediately, with additional provider results added after you pause typing. On TV, search is designed for remote navigation as well as text input.

Redesigned source management

Sources are becoming much easier to understand and control.

  • Source management redesigned into a flat prioritized list of sources rather than grouped per source type
  • See channel counts and content types such as Live TV, DVR, FAST, Library, 4K, and remote access
  • Clearer ready, refreshing, authentication-required, empty, and partial-failure states

The goal is to make mixed setups (HDHomeRun, Tablo, Plex, IPTV, and cameras) feel like one organized system without hiding where a stream actually comes from.

Live tuner and session information

Source details can now expose more useful real-time information, including:

  • HDHomeRun, Plex, and legacy Tablo tuner capacity and current tuner activity
  • Tablo Gen 4 tuner capacity
  • HDHomeRun and legacy Tablo channel and program associated with an active tuner when available
  • Status that refreshes when entering or reopening source details

More predictable source selection

When you explicitly select a particular source for a channel, Multiview will honor that choice. If it fails, the app should report or retry that source instead of silently switching to a different provider.

Native macOS app

A native Mac version is currently in App Store review. It includes:

  • A resizable native Mac window
  • Sidebar navigation for Home, Guide, Search, Library, and Layouts
  • Native Mac settings and keyboard shortcuts
  • Local-network source discovery and management
  • Guide, Library, presets, purchases, and iCloud-synced settings shared with the Apple apps
  • Native VLCKit playback
  • In-app multiview layouts Playback stays inside the Mac app window; iOS-style system Picture-in-Picture is not part of the initial Mac release.

Website and support resources

The website has also received a substantial refresh, including:

  • More detailed setup and troubleshooting guides
  • Dedicated information for IPTV and other supported source types
  • Clearer platform and download information
  • Tablo compatibility and upgrade guidance
  • HDHomeRun alternatives and hardware recommendations
  • Better explanations of how mixed-source multiview works

There’s still release testing happening around upgrades, very large IPTV catalogs, source migration, tuner status, global search, and mixed-source playback. I’d especially love feedback from anyone using a large IPTV lineup or a combination of HDHomeRun, Tablo, Plex, and cameras.

Thanks to everyone who has shared bug reports, logs, and suggestions - the Reddit and email feedback has directly shaped quite a few of these improvements.

Now available on Android and Google TV - Multiview 1.5.0 - IPTV, cameras, Plex/Tablo/HDHomeRun DVR Library, and more

The same functionality recently released for iOS and Apple TV is now available in the Google Play Store for Android phones, tablets, Android TV, and Google TV.

Library: Browse and watch supported Plex movies, shows, episodes, and recordings, along with supported Tablo Gen 4 and HDHomeRun DVR recordings. Library content includes artwork, show and season browsing, playback progress, and resume support where available. Library management actions such as deleting recordings are not currently available.

IPTV: Add an M3U playlist or connect using Xtream Codes. M3U sources can also use optional XMLTV guide data.

Cameras and live feeds: Add compatible RTSP, RTSPS, HLS, HTTP, and HTTPS feeds. Supported ONVIF cameras can expose pan, tilt, and zoom controls when an ONVIF port is provided. Camera audio can also be continuously monitored in a multiview while another source remains selected for primary audio.

New navigation: Android phones and tablets now have separate Home, Guide, Library, and Layouts sections. The new Layouts page provides a dedicated place to create and manage saved multiview setups. Android TV and Google TV have also been reorganized around easier access to Home, Multiview, Guide, Library, and Settings.

Channel management: Channels can be favorited, hidden, and managed by source. This is especially useful for IPTV sources with large channel lineups. The Guide can also be filtered by category, source, or playlist group.

Multiview is a player rather than a content service. It does not provide channels, IPTV playlists, media, or subscriptions. You must connect sources and content that you’re authorized to access.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.multiview

Given this is a large update, feedback is especially welcome. Specifically interested to hear how the Library organization, IPTV and camera setup, channel management, and new navigation work with your particular combination of devices and sources. Large IPTV sources are likely to be a bigger source of feedback - please keep it coming.

Feature requests and bug reports are welcome. If reporting a problem, please include your device model and Android version when possible.

Multiview 1.5.0 is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV - IPTV, cameras, Plex/Tablo DVR Library, and more

Multiview 1.5.0 is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

Multiview originally focused on watching multiple HDHomeRun channels, then expanded to include Tablo and Plex sources. This update expands the types of sources it can work with and reorganizes the app around managing them.

Here’s what changed:

  • Library: Browse and watch supported Plex movies, shows, and episodes, along with supported Tablo Gen 4 DVR recordings. Library content includes artwork, show and season browsing, playback progress, and resume support where available. HDHomeRun DVR content not yet supported but is planned. Library management activities like deleting recordings are not currently available.
  • IPTV: Add an M3U playlist or connect with Xtream Codes. M3U sources can use optional XMLTV guide data.
  • Cameras and live feeds: Add compatible RTSP, RTSPS, HLS, HTTP, and HTTPS feeds. Supported ONVIF cameras can also expose pan, tilt, and zoom controls when ONVIF port is provided. Live camera feed audio can be continuously monitored in a multiview, even when audio is focused on a different source.
  • iPhone and iPad navigation: The app now has separate Home, Guide, Library, and Layouts sections. The new Layouts page provides a dedicated place to create and manage saved multiview setups.
  • Channel management: Channels can be favorited, hidden, and managed by source. Easily hide all channels and opt-in for sources with more channels than preferred. The Guide can also be filtered by category or source.

Disclaimer: Multiview remains a player rather than a content service. It doesn’t provide channels, IPTV playlists, media, or subscriptions - you must connect sources and content that you’re authorized to access.

The corresponding Android and Google TV update is nearly complete, and assuming the remaining testing goes as expected, should be available within the next few days.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/multiview-sports/id6753928061

If you try the update, I’d be interested in feedback on the Library organization, channel management, and how the new navigation works with your particular combination of sources. Feature requests welcomed.

Edit: 1.5.1 now supports HDHomeRun DVR
