Finished More Atlatl Forshafts 🎯

Howdy y'all! 👋😁

Finished up some atlatl forshafts here after breaking a couple during my 4th of July demonstration. Wanted to have a good number made up so that I can practice without having to worry much. Might need to rework some of my darts for this thicker forshaft, but they should perform nicely 🙂‍↕️

Hopefully y'all think they're neat, and feel free to ask any questions! Stay safe and happy Knapping all! 😁

Morning y’all

So what’s up? Building heavy bows? Flinging heavy arrows? Personally I’m about to go bowling but then all of the above ✌️

What is a warbow, exactly?

Some people say it’s a bow above a certain weight. Other people say it’s a bow intended for war. Some think none of this makes any sense at all. What do you say?

👋 Welcome to r/WarbowSociety

Hey everyone! I'm Dave, aka u/MustangLongbows, a founding member of the North American Warbow Society.

This is our new Reddit home for all things related to our organization and for open discussion of anything related to historical military archery in general. We're excited to have you join us!

We welcome any and all discussion, news or topics of general interest to the warbow community. We intend to build a North American community of archers, crafters, historians and enthusiasts that will not only rival our overseas counterparts; we actively seek opportunities for growth and collaboration. Borders are no barrier. Our Reddit home will also serve as one of several conduits for disseminating information related to archery opportunities, like-minded clubs and events.

Speaking of events, I'd like to personally thank everyone who took the time to complete our interest survey. We're amazed at the sheer volume of interest and feedback we've received thus far and intend fully to incorporate that feedback into the sculpting and shaping of not only future events but also the organization's ethos. Your input matters and you *can* help shape and influence what happens in the future.

Finally, we're happy to report that our filing as a nonprofit organization is "officially official"! We've made our determination letter stating such available on our website under the "about us" tab. Fundraising for next year has begun via our merch shop, also found on our website. Every cent shall be used for the purposes of funding fantastic archery events in beautiful venues. NAWS memberships will be available soon as well and will work on a tiered system. Please stand by as we continue to work out these details but know that membership will have its perks.

Thanks for being part of making this dream a reality. We're all about bringing the right people together in the right places so that we can all enjoy our interests and archery styles together.

-Dave

Heavy bow gathering interest survey

Hey all, this is about a 2 minute survey to gauge interest in holding a multiday warbow event in the Fall of 2027. It would be hosted on a 400 acre private farm in upstate NY. The purpose of the survey is to find out what kinds of things you’d like to see or experience to make an event like this worth traveling to such as instruction from some heavyweight names in the Warbow community (think masterclass), tons of different shooting events such as clout, popinjay and roving, vendors and crafters, etc.

Oh and today the North American Warbow Society filed for nonprofit status, so we’ll soon be officially official!

We’d really appreciate any and all who are willing to do the survey. It’ll help us create the type of event(s) that people want to come back to year after year. Thanks everyone!

Master Bowyers

I’m curious about something as far as USA based Master Bowyers are concerned. What body is it that certifies them as masters? I haven’t turned up anything via Google.

Fitting a type 10 long bodkin

I love sanding sponges for jobs like this because they have right angles and edges. This allows me to get right up to the shoulder on the arrow shaft without wrecking it ✌️
