Over 60% of Clark County didn’t vote! How do we get more of our citizens engaged?

From https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/data-research/election-data-gand-maps/ballot-return-statistics

The most up to date statistics from the Washington Secretary of State show that about 39% of eligible ballots in Clark County were returned for the 2026 August Primary.

Nearly 61% or 222,000 eligible voters did not return a ballot.

Washington state has some of the most voter friendly elections in the nation, from access to ballots, ease to vote, voter pamphlet information, access to individual ballot tracking, and statistics on accepted and rejected ballots.

So for those who did not return a ballot, I genuinely want to know, what was the reason for not doing so and what can be done to get you to participate in the future?

PSA for e-bike owners and parents of children with e-bikes

TL:DR
On 6/11, in the state of Washington, if your e-bikes motor allows you to go over 20mph without pedaling, it’s no longer considered an e-bike. If you buy an e-bike that can be easily converted into an electric motorcycle, it’s no longer considered an e-bike.

If your e-bike is no longer considered an e-bike, you or your child may now be considered to be operating a motorcycle.

“ENGROSSED SUBSTITUTE SENATE BILL 6110” goes into effect on 6/11. This bill says that “The department of licensing must convene a work group to study and recommend a revised statutory framework for electronic motorcycles”.

Additionally, the bill enacts regulations to “determine the differences between electronic-assisted bicycles and electronic motorcycles”.

For a vehicle to be considered an “electronic-assisted bicycle”, it must:

Have two or three wheels
A saddle
Fully human operated pedals
An electric motor with a power output of no more than 750 watts

E-bikes now must also meet one of these three classifications:

Class 1 - The motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bike reaches a top speed of 20mph.

Class 2 - The motor may be used exclusively but stops providing assistance when the bike reaches a top speed of 20mph.

Class 3 - The motor provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bike reaches a top speed of 28mph, but the bike must have a speedometer.

"Electric-assisted bicycle" does not include:

(a) Any vehicle capable of exceeding 20 miles per hour on solely its electric motor; or
(b) Any vehicle that is designed, manufactured, or intended by the manufacturer or seller to be easily configured in order not to meet the requirements of an electric-assisted bicycle, whether by a mechanical switch or button, by changing a setting in software controlling the drive system, by use of an online application, or through other means intended by the manufacturer or seller.

Let’s rebrand the piggyback!

Since the piggyback start looks like it’s here to stay, I think it’s time for a rebrand!

Piggyback gives off a childish vibe of, well, one pitcher riding the back of the other around the pitchers mound! A funny visual, yes, but one that does not strike fear into the hearts of your opponent’s 😋

What say yee, Mariners of Reddit? What should these starts be named from here on?

A few that our house came up with:

Big Tex & The Rock
🤠🪨
Thunder & Lightning
⛈️⚡️
Pitching Pals
👯
Good Idea, Bad Idea
👍👎
