How to improve or deal with severe menorrhagia?

25, no kids, history of PCOS.

I was on the pill for 9 years. Got put on it when I had extremely heavy periods at 16 years old and couldn’t deal with school days. I just stopped the pill to rediscover who I am and what I look like off of them, and because of side effects (legs swelling, weight gain) and wanting to get pregnant in the next couple years. I had forgotten how bad my periods were.

I am filling up large menstrual cups every two hours on the first 4 days of my period. One every hour at times. Bleeding through multiple shorts and pants a day. Bleeding on the floor when I take it out to shower. It gets on my legs, on the toilet, it’s insane. I get anemic and fatigued. The cramps are god awful too. I don’t function when I am on my period at this point.

I don’t want to get back on the pill if possible. I want to know if any other medication works, or supplements or anything really. I heard of the drug for menorrhagia but also heard all it does is extend the period with the same total flow. That would be worse I feel.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

What is the absolute largest cup in the market? Help me relearn how to manage a severely heavy period.

I want tips too if you have any advice.

Im 25, I’ve always had an extremely heavy period ever since middle school. I was on birth control since 9th grade, and that made it much more manageable. I went from bleeding heavily for 7 days with debilitating cramps to 4 easy, light days. I forgot how bad it used to be. I want to have children soon, and also due to some side effects and just being on birth control for so long now, I decided to stop it.

I went right back to horrible periods. I have severe menorrhagia. On the first 4 days of my period I am filling up a large cup every two hours, bleeding through several pants and shorts a day, bleeding on the floor when I take my cup out to shower… its just crazy. It is unmanageable. Horrible cramps too. I don’t know how I’m even supposed to make it through a workday like this. Since I just stopped the pill like 4 months ago, I am relearning how to deal with this and would appreciate your tips!

Currently, I am looking for the biggest cup in the market to get me through a little longer than 2 hours at least. Ive considered shoving a tampon in there under the cup too, but I hear thats a bad idea. I am buying some period panties now to help against the inevitable security breaches. Any other tips would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Is this pseudo-merle (red-silver dapple)? How would you classify this coat?

Milo’s breeder classified him as a red tabby with white. He has some tabby characteristics; his head has tabby markings, and two of his legs have some stripes. The rest of his coat is randomly spotted with several dark red areas. Is this evidence of red-silver dappling? Please let me know what you think!

Switching from a PhD to a MS before applying for OPT

Hello,

I am on a STEM PhD program now, 1 year in. I have recently changed my mind and wish to master out at the end of Fall 26. Will this change impact my application for OPT? Are there any nuances I should be aware of? I assume a new I-20 needs to be issued reflecting the degree change?

Thank you!

All symptoms cleared… but limping now

Hello all. Milo has been recovering excellently. Eating a lot, playing, walking around, purring, going on walks, etc. He is currently taking GS at 17.2mg/kg/day. A little over a week ago he started limping. The limping is on and off, sometimes he doesn’t do it, sometimes he does, and it seems to worsen when he first gets up from lying down for a while. We first thought he might’ve hurt himself jumping off his cat tree or something with his newfound energy, and since he had just lost so much weight from the FIP he got hurt. We have massaged him, stretched his front legs, palpated the area, and he does not appear to be in any pain. Now im reading it might be a neurological symptom? I would like your opinion so I can advocate for him at the vet and ask for a higher dose if necessary. Thank you for your help!

How would you classify Milo’s coat color?

Thought Id ask you all after a comment on my recent post! He has some tabby-like markings, but he is mostly just randomly patched with light and dark red areas, with a white face, neck and belly.

An update on my Milo, and a post supporting having good insurance and good vet care!

This is a before and after, not of growth but of going through scary sickness!

Refer to my previous post here.

In the early days of what became awful sickness, Milo seemed to be at odds with his new brother. He seemed like he was just out of energy from having a new kitten in the household. Sleeping a lot and not wanting to play. Boy were we wrong.

After my post, Milo steeply worsened. Quickly too. Over that weekend, he stopped moving altogether, he stopped eating, his eyes became very swollen and he had excessive eye discharge. By then, we noticed a lot of weight loss as well. Milo was rushed to the ER, where we got a diagnosis of FIP, a formerly fatal viral disease that can now be cured with a 15-week course of very, very expensive medication. Pain for our wallet. Maine Coons are heavy guys, so of course he needs nearly double the dose of a more appropriately sized cat. Double the pain for our wallet. Nearly $4000 and several days later, he started his medication.

Not even 6 hours after his first dose, Milo started making noticeable improvement. I would call it nothing short of miraculous. Milo was at death’s door six hours prior, and suddenly he started moving again, walking and begging for food. The next morning he was nearly back to his normal self, minus some very scary looking reddening of the iris.

Now, a few weeks later, Milo is more active, playful, vocal and is eating more than he was before his crisis. It makes me feel terrible that he was probably sick for a long time and we only caught it once his symptoms were too awful to hide. He loves his brother. He plays with him and licks him all day. He is so good at taking his medication too. It’s almost like he knows its helping; he comes willingly every time, makes no fuss and opens his mouth without me having to wrestle him. He is getting nice and plump again too haha. His insurance covered everything.

So, other than to update whoever had seen my previous post, this is to help convince you to have good insurance for your babies, and to go to the vet earlier than you think. Had we not, I’m scared to think Milo could’ve possibly not made it through his sickness. God bless medical advancements. If it wasn’t for this new medication, Milo would’ve likely succumbed to his fatal disease. So, today I am thankful ❤️

Milo is showing drastic, miraculous improvement just 6 hours after his GS see first dose.

Pic 1: Yesterday morning (before GS-441524)
Pic 2: Two nights ago
Pic 3: Milo last night (6 hours after his first GS dose)
Pic 4: Milo this morning

1.5 y/o Maine Coon Milo. Had FCoV stomach bug 1 year ago. First noticed worsening July 9th. Symptoms included severe lethargy, disinterest in food or water, inability to open eyes, inflammation of the eye membranes, 3lb weight loss, excessive eye discharge, slow movement/weakness. He was severely ill. Received diagnosis and GS prescription July 13th. $900 later, medication arrived yesterday. Immediately administered 1 1/4th pills (62.5mg, ~18mg/kg/day.

Not even 6 hours later we started to notice improvement. His eyes were more open, he was walking around following us, he ate, meowed, even batted around a plastic toy. This morning (~18hrs after first dose) he was following me, screaming at me for food, eyes wide open, alert and energetic. He ate a lot and has been grooming himself since. I am deeply thankful, relieved and happy. Milo was honestly nearing death’s door. I am so hopeful for the rest of his treatment and for the recovery of all the beautiful kitties in this sub.

One question: do you all see the reddening of the iris go away after a while? His left eye has completely changed color and its pretty concerning.

Is my big baby depressed? And what can I do?

These are Milo (right) and Kino (left). Milo is 1.5 years old and Kino is 4 months. We got Milo when he was 7 months and he was active and playful and he would get the zoomies all the time. Over time he mellowed out a little and he started getting the zoomies a couple times a week, and he would play with his toys every day. He was very cuddly too, and he would come cuddle with me (mama) every day after work.

Kino is a kitty with high energy. He is always playing, running around, being a cuddle bug, cuddling and trying to play with Milo. He does sleep a lot too, he is certainly not annoying Milo all the time or anything. Ill see them play or cuddle together once a day. And Milo licks him all over when they are cuddling.

Ever since we got Kino a month ago, Milo has been playing less and less, he does not get the zoomies anymore, he is sleeping all day, and seems disinterested in any toys. Kino tries to come up to him and start play fighting but Milo runs away to keep sleeping elsewhere. He doesnt cuddle with me much anymore either. Milo also gained some weight, but I had initially attributed that to a second growth spurt or an effect of giving him more wet food than I was before. His eyes seem to be always half open when he is awake and I rarely see him wondering around the house now. He is eating and going to the bathroom well still.

Is Milo depressed? What suggestions do you have to try to get Milo to feel better? Do you think as Kino gets older and mellows out things will improve?
