How much does a basic business website actually cost in Sri Lanka right now? (Getting wild quotes)

I run a small local business here in SL and I’m finally looking to get a proper webpage set up for it. The problem is, I have absolutely no tech background and I’m completely lost on the pricing.

I’ve asked around a bit and the quotes I'm getting are all over the place—some people are quoting pocket change, and others are asking for an arm and a leg.

Can anyone break down how developers or agencies usually charge here?

What’s a realistic price range for a standard, clean business website (just info, contact page, maybe a portfolio—no heavy e-commerce stuff yet)?

What should I look out for so I don’t get ripped off?

Do people usually charge a flat rate or monthly maintenance?

Anyone else still waiting 1+ years for their plastic Driving License? 🫠 My temporary one just expired. Help!

I’m in a bit of a situation here. I passed my driving trial exactly a year ago and got that temporary paper license.

Fast forward to today—the temporary paper is officially expired, but I still haven’t received my permanent plastic card in the post.

I need to drive daily for work, and I’m terrified of getting pulled over by the police with an expired paper.

What am I supposed to do now?

Is there any fastest like send mail or like that

How long does Cash on Delivery (COD) actually take based on where you live? (Colombo vs Kandy vs Outstations)

I wanted to get some realistic feedback on how Cash on Delivery (COD) timelines actually work across the island right now.

We all see pages promising "fast delivery," but I want to know the real-world truth from your experience. Does it heavily depend on the location, or is it mostly based on the courier company (like Koombiyo, Domex, Pronto, etc.)?

From what I understand:

Colombo & Suburbs: Is same-day or next-day delivery actually common for you guys?

Major Cities (like Kandy, Galle, Gampaha): Does it usually take 1–2 days, or does it stretch longer?

Outstations / Distant Places (Jaffna, Ampara, Badulla, deep rural areas): How long does it realistically take to get a COD package? Does it always take 3 to 4+ days?

If you order online often (or run an e-commerce page), what has been your actual experience with delivery times? Which couriers are the fastest for outstations, and which ones should we avoid if we are in a hurry?

What actually happens to a COD order if no one is home to take it? (FB Buying)

I have a bit of a dumb question, but I’m kind of stressing out about it.

I ordered something through a Facebook group, and I chose Cash on Delivery (COD). The thing is, I unexpectedly have to head outside and won't be home when the delivery guy comes. To make things worse, there are no family members or roommates at home today either—the house is completely empty.

Does anyone know what actually happens in this situation?

Will the delivery rider just call me and reschedule for tomorrow?

Do they get pissed off and return it to the seller immediately?

Since it's from a Facebook group seller and not a giant site like Amazon, am I going to get blacklisted or blasted by the seller for wasting their time?

I really want the item, I just genuinely won't be there to hand over the cash. If you've been in this situation before (either as a buyer or a rider), what's the best way to handle this? Should I try to text the seller now, or just wait for the courier to call?

Looking for recommendations: Best free places to list products and build a basic online storefront for a local shop?

I run a small local retail shop, and honestly, foot traffic just isn’t cutting it anymore. I desperately need to get my items online so locals (and maybe others) can browse what I have in stock, but I'm running into a bit of a wall.

Every major platform I look at seems to want a hefty monthly subscription, a massive cut of my sales, or hidden listing fees that just don't make sense for my tiny margins right now.

I’m looking for any hidden gems, free listing sites, or platforms where I can set up a super basic, free online storefront to show off my inventory.

Ideally, I'd love something where:

It's actually free (or at least free to start/list items without upfront monthly costs).

It's relatively simple to set up (I'm not a web developer, just a store owner!).

It plays nice with local buyers if possible.

Are people still using Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace for this kind of stuff, or are there newer, better indie platforms out there specifically built for local shops trying to get online?

Anyone else getting straight up 0 views after running TikTok ads?

I need to know if I'm losing my mind or if TikTok is actually broken. I have a brand account where I post my products. Everything was fine until I decided to try pushing some ads.

Ever since that ad campaign ended, every single new video I post gets stuck at exactly 0 views. It’s been 5 to 6 days now and the counter hasn't moved at all. Did I get shadowbanned for paying them? 😂 Are you guys experiencing this right now or did I just break the algorithm?

Stuck without a permanent NIC at 19 – Can’t even get online services. How complex is the late application process?

I’m currently 19, an A/L student, and I'm facing a frustrating problem. I don't have a permanent National Identity Card (NIC) yet. I only have a temporary identity document, and it's causing me a massive headache.

Because it's a temporary card, I cannot use any automated verification systems. I'm trying to get automated services, but their systems keep rejecting my temporary ID. I'm completely locked out of a lot of essential services.

I need to get my permanent smart NIC as soon as possible, but since I'm already 19, I've heard the process for "delayed/late" applications is more complicated than doing it through school at 15/16.

Has anyone here gone through the process of getting their first NIC after turning 19?

How complex is it really?

What documents do I need to get signed by my Grama Niladhari (GN)? Do I need a special explanation letter from my school principal because of the delay?

Can I use the One-Day Service at Battaramulla (Suhurupaya) to speed it up, or do late applications have to go through the normal slow route?

Am I doing something wrong, or has Facebook organic reach just died for local retail?

I have a local shop and I post multiple times a week on my FB business page and join local buy/sell groups to share my stuff. My reach is basically non-existent. I’m barely getting any views, let alone orders.

Is the FB algorithm just broken for small businesses right now, or is my strategy missing something obvious?

I'm thinking about pivoting entirely to local marketplace apps since the traffic there is already looking for products. For those who run local shops, do you get better conversion rates on marketplaces compared to Facebook groups/pages?

Is FB Marketplace / Buy-Sell groups in SL actually as bad as everyone says? Or are we just paranoid?

Every time someone asks about buying a used phone, finding an apartment, or getting a vehicle in Sri Lanka, the immediate response on Reddit is always: "Don’t use Facebook groups, it's 100% scammers, stay away."

But here’s what I don't get... I spend a lot of time browsing these SL Facebook groups, and they are massive. Thousands of people are actively joining every day, posting items, commenting, and seemingly buying and selling stuff successfully.

If the whole platform is just a giant trap full of bots and fraudsters, why is half of Sri Lanka still on it? Why are people still genuinely using it as their main marketplace over sites like Ikman?

What is the actual truth here? Is it genuinely unsafe, or is it just that a few loud people got scammed because they didn't have common sense? Let’s talk.

Is anyone actually making sales on FB groups, or is it a waste of time?

I run a local physical shop and I'm thinking of promoting my items in those huge 100k+ member Sri Lankan shopping groups on Facebook.

Every time I scroll through them, it’s just endless product posts but barely any likes or visible engagement. Do people actually DM and buy from these, or are these groups just filled with other sellers trying to shout over each other?

If you've ever bought something through a Facebook group, what was your experience? Let me know if it’s worth the effort.
