My second tank , in Dry Start now

Hey all, this is my new tank.

Riparian Zone Concept: when a river overflows and suddenly floods some areas. My concept is when the water floods an area near the root of a tree.

I want it to look like a rainforest riparian zone.

Planted some plants for dry start, may be some are melting , will wait and check .

Let me know what you think 🤔

Tommyandtiny.in totally misled me. Disappointed

I ordered 10 chilli rasboras from tommyandtiny and I received 12 rummy nose tetras and 12 dwarf rasboras. I have attached the picture.

On the night I received them, I thought I received stressed chilli rasboras as they were colourless and immediately added them to my planted walstad tank, and turned off the lights to reduce their stress.

But the next day I noticed most of them were not raaboras at all (this is my first tank and didn’t know how big the chilli rasboras will be physically).

I complained about it to their WhatsApp number and he accepted there were some mixup , but he told me they were chilli Rasboras and I got extra rummy nose tetras.

But I was sceptical, but later found out they were not chilli rasboras. They were definetely dwarf rasboras.

Totally disappointed. I have been planning to get some chillis for months and when the day came, I received only disappointments

New Tank - Riparian Zone Rainforest concept, with rain

Hello All, Just placed the tank in dry start. My second tank, wanted to create a Rainforest style tank with tree root kind of BG.Tried creating the BG with coco peat and black silicon. The background didn’t go really well and has some empty spots. But shouldn’t matter, will be covering those up with a background color.

Will be adding shrimps , snails and cardinal tetras.

Will also be adding a lot more stem plants while filling with water.

My New tank coming up - Rainforest Riparian Zone Concept - Flora and founa suggestions please

https://preview.redd.it/kjlzzf2h3meh1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c0b1b438e0108cf15413b908a23d11cbf7822fd

Just completed the first step, trying to create a root background for my next walstad method tank.
Concept: Riparian Zone. In nature when river spills over and floods the root of jungle trees.

https://preview.redd.it/dmronqdh3meh1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=453314978b3324d66fe1157886aa25463e8acd41

I am also setting up a rain ssytem, just ordered a acrilite sheet with holes and wall, that i designed myself using sidefx Houdini(i am a VFX technical director by day).
So, it should be like a rainforest riparian zone.

I just created this background with black silicon and cocopeat and some driftwoods. I know, some of the cocopeat will fall off once cured, and i am planning for a day 2, patching the bald spots and adding some more detail.

Suggest me some flora and fauna. Currently, i have no idea (except, i will be adding a lot of moss on this background). Its a 60cm*30cm tank. So, i dont want to overcrowd the system, also, i dont want beta fish as i would like to have shrimps and snails if possible.

I want it to look like a rain forest riparian ecosystem.

if possible, i would like to have multiple fish varieties.

40 Days - Fully cycled - How it started vs How its going

Everyone... I had zero knowledge about planted/dirted aquarium. About 40 days ago, after watching some youtube videos i decided to make my own dirted tank.

I started with a simple cave concept and bought a Tank and planted some plants with Gemini as my guide. Now, i ahve added nerite and malaysian trumpet snails and just 4 blue dream shrimps(will be adding more next week).

I initially posted about my tank in this subredit and some people suggested me to read walstad's book. I was very defensive and didn't have the mental bandwith with my hactic 9 to 6(or more) job to read anything and i deleted my post.

But, i read her blog and watched many videos on the topic and gained some knowledge about this method.

I am a software person by profession and now, i have a great understanding of something totally out of my domain.

Thanks to the people who pointed me in the right direction.

not sure what those white dots are on the glass, but i am just going to leave it undisturbed for now.

I recently came across some walstad tank videos in youtube and wanted to try this.

I asked reddit for help some of the comments were asking me to read the book.

I have failed multiple times keeping a healthy aquarium. and this method looks like the thing made for me.

I recently filled a 14inchx8 inch and 12 inch height tank with these plants,

ambulia, anubias, red cabomba, amazon frogbit, tenellus grass and christmas moss.

i am looking for practical tips to help me with my hobby.

I have a 9 to 5 job(sometimes 9 to 8). So, i difinitely dont have the bandwtidth to read the walstad book.

I am really treating this as a relaxing hands on hobby.

i am on day 4, i ahve attached some images from day 1 to 3.

any practical advice is welcome.

First time trying Walstad method Aquarium. Experienced people, please guide me.

I recently started seeing these aquarium build videos by "tanks for nothin" and then youtube's algorithm did its job. So, finally, i have bought everything i assume is needed to start filling my tank.

I got a 14inch x 8 inch x 12 inch tank.

I used gemini as my initial guide and got these things to start my journey.

Plants:

  1. Anubias
  2. Difformis
  3. Christmas moss
  4. Tenellus
  5. Amazon frogbit

Organic vermi Compost

River Sand

1 KG Dragon Stone

1 big Driftwood

Anti Chlorine(as my municipal water has high chlorine content)

Mini 7w LED Light.

and accesoried like superglue, cotton balls, tweezers, hose.

i will be building a small cave in the middle of the tank using the dragon stone.

I am excited for the filling of the tank. Right now, i am not going to be adding any fish, snails or anything for a while.

I just want to fill the tank and see what happens.

Am i doing anything wrong ? what to expect over the next few days. ?

Any help is appreciated.
