So are u guys actually planning to settle in Kerala long term, or move abroad eventually?
If abroad, which country and why?
I'll start, personally I'm planning to move to scotland and settle there, and eventually return to kerala when i retire.
Hi everyone, I'm a high school student from Asia, and I'm currently deciding between two university offers for Computer Science:
- University of Nottingham — Computer Science with Year in Industry (G407)
- Nottingham Trent University — Computer Science BSc (Hons) with Placement Year (G400)
I also hold offers from two other Russell Group universities, but these are the two options I'm considering most seriously, as my biggest priority is the industry/placement year.
I've been leaning towards NTU because the tuition fees are more affordable, and the offer conditions are less demanding. My final exam results are still pending, and, to be honest, I'm a bit uncertain about how they'll turn out. UoN would also cost around £11,000 more than NTU, which makes me hesitant about taking on a significantly larger education loan.
My current financial plan for NTU is to fund the first two years through an education loan, and then cover the remaining costs through a combination of family support and, hopefully, earnings from the placement year.
However, after reading a lot of mixed reviews on Reddit, I'm starting to second-guess my decision. I see NTU criticised quite often.
I'd really appreciate hearing from current students, recent graduates, or anyone with firsthand experience of either of these courses, especially regarding the placement year.
- How valuable was the placement year in helping you secure graduate employment?
- Were you able to find a good placement opportunity?
- Looking back, are you happy with your choice?
For NTU students or graduates: did attending a non-Russell Group university affect your opportunities in any meaningful way?
TL;DR: I'm choosing between the UoN and NTU for Computer Science, although I also have offers from two other Russell Group universities. I highly value the placement year. NTU seems more affordable and financially safer, but I'm concerned about its reputation and whether I'd regret not choosing a Russell Group university. I'd really appreciate honest insights on placements, employability, and long-term outcomes.
Thank you!
