Redemption, personal best of the year.

Good evening all,

Just got back from a wonderful day paddling Chitek Lake , Saskatchewan. One of my favorite lakes to fish due to how close the fish are from the camp sites, one brief paddle and your on the fish.

Anyway, back in July I lost what would have been my PB at ministikwan lake due to my one excitement(can find that post in my history.). Ive been chasing it ever since.

Tonight, on the last cast of the evening I thought to myself " I'm just gonna rip this damn thing through the water the moment it breaks surface. Was almost a picture perfect "ker plunk" and I was reeling within seconds. Didnt slow my pace at all and was watching my lure fast approaching my kayak when suddenly, WHAM a pike made my day.

Instantly my rod bent with the heavy pull from his bite, kayak spun around as he was deciding where to pull me, my drag screaming for mercy as he pressed for freedom.

With bated breath I reached behind me to secure my net, and his demise. Net in hand I finally got him toward the surface and guided him into the net. Thick was an understatement.

Once I got him to shore I discovered he had broken my net. In retrospect probably should have kept him innthe net on the way back, just straight to kayak floor would have saved the net.

Tight lines everyone hope you catch your PBs of the year soon. I know my guy is tiny compared to some here but that was a fight ill never forget.

Opportunity arises, fish seizes it.

While out kayaking and doing some fishing I happened to forget my stringer so I was really limited in terms of options to keep fish this trip and not have a bunch of walleye flopping around inside the kayak.

I was taking a better look at this one potentially thinking about keeping and decided to measure it, well it had other plans 🤣.

Still a great night out on the lake.

When your own excitement causes your biggest loss..

Hello all,

Just wanted to pop in here and share my story and maybe hear from others who have had to learn this lesson the hard way.

So I was out enjoying a wonder morning of fishing, saw some cool sights, had a couple bites and one hell of a fight from a northern pike which could have very well been my largest of the year, im guessing around 6 - 8 pounds maybe.

It smashed my hook and I knew I had something pretty decent on. Reeled it in slowly but kept tension as to not lose it, my excitement was building as the fish drew closer to the side of my kayak. Then I got my first sight of it as it trashed and made a run back for freedom. My rod is holding firm and my drag is screaming, get the fish back a second time and it once again runs the third time it went kind of under my kayak and I made my critical error at this point. I did not reel in nearly enough line and should have still been trying to fight this thing rather than netting. I pulled my rod and lifted the fish out of the water no where near my net and that was all it needed to get free.

Needless to say my heart sank a little. To add insult, my gopro had a low battery at this point and the audio is messed up for the whole fight so you cant even hear the drag when it made runs or anything. A painful lesson but I wont be making that mistake again hopefully.

Still one of the best fights I've had the pleasure of experiencing and an even tougher lesson learned.

Enjoying a peaceful paddle and fishing session when...

So I was recently enjoying a evening on the lake testing a new life jacket when this occurred.. dodged them this time 😆

Has anyone had this happen? I guess the more you go out the more chances youre exposed to..

When you limit out before noon.

Mornings like this are awesome.

Got out for one last go on the last day of my camping trip this morning before the winds picked up too much, paddled out and let the winds move me around the lake.

Evidently, to where the fish were chilling. Once the winds got a little too much I headed back. Wonderful day to seal the camping trip.

All three of these smashed the jig head with the swirl tail you see when they are on the table.

PFD Comfort for long duration paddles.

Hey all, hope everyone's got some decent weather recently to get out on the water for a bit. I'm wrapping up a week long camping tripped which I was fishing every day.

Recently my back has been a little more sensitive than usual and I believe it might be because of my pdf. You wont catch me on the water without wearing it but ive noticed the back foam pads seem to restrict the way im sitting and almost force me forward.

Mind you im sleeping on a air mattress that likes to deflate so that might play into it as well.

Pics of my current pdf are attached, what's everyone rocking out on the water for longer duration paddles? I do like having access to a few pockets for fishing related tools.

I also have a pelican ego cast(not the 360) model seat.

Paddling postcards

Beautiful evening out on the water at Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan.

Caught 3 little pikes which have this gorgeous sky as a back drop. I need to charge gopro batteries before I can pull those pictures though.

Makes getting off the water so hard when you have wonderful sights to behold. Oh and the quietness, is chefs kiss towards sunset, being able to hear distant and sometimes not so distant loon calls is awesome. Sends shivers down my spine sometimes.

Catch, cook, eat.

This was the first of two pikes I caught on sunday. Sadly i switched my gopro mode to timelapse accidently which resulted in the second catch being unwatchable.

Took them both back to camp and got them ready to eat. Mother nature had other plans and I got rained out so saved them for another day

Enjoyed them coated in a lemon pepper breading

Cant add more pics to this post so the replies will show the follow up.

Good Sunday evening.

Went out for about 3 hours or so, was targeting walleye but Ill take these two Pike. They are going to be good eating once the rain clears this afternoon.

I was filming with my gopros but sadly I had switched the camera to timelapse so I lost the footage of the second catch which was a really fun fish to fight.

It crest the surface just for a second before trashing back down making a run for freedom.

Can't beat getting out on the water.

Darker pictures are stills from my gopro, other ones from my phone camera

When the lake calls you back.

Captured this upon returning to the campsite for the night.

Seemingly made a good choice because rain decided to show up around 12 and has continued throughout the morning.

Guess today might be a chill in the tent and place some boardgames day instead of hitting the water.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hit em with the "here fishy fishy."

Had a couple that I had got to the surface before they spit the hook. This with this one I was able to actually net him. Probably had my drag a little too tight in all honesty but it worked out.

Just gotta call them in 🐟.

P.s - sorry if this appears a second time, I tried submitting it eariler today but dont see any record in my post history 🤷

Lake of glass, paddling the clouds.

Taken before the paddle back to the campsite. Felt like I was fishing the clouds for a little bit. Can't beat beautiful evenings like this on the water.

Waning light, wonderful night.

This photo was taken at the mid point between to connected lakes on my way back to the campsite for the night. Last year due to water level this area was not easily accessible without a decent port through some nasty stuff. This year however, was able to travese it into the other lake. Spent about 3 hours just casually floating and throwing a line out.
