Kaleidomorphia Kerby Rosanes

This is for the book KALEIDOMORPHIA Celebrating Kerby Rosanes's Coloring Challenges

As the title implies this is a collection of different illustrations from his morphia series. If you have any of those books and purchased this one you will recognize a few of the illustrations.

The front few pages are beautiful glossy depictions of some of the illustrations done by coloring hobbyist like us. (Instagram) The uncolored version is included later in the book. The implication is the colored pages are the challenges.

I will say that Kerby Rosanes is one of my favorite artists and this book is no different in that regard. Each illustration is rich in detail and imagination. I can easily see myself spending days on the two page spreads.

The physical aspect of the book is good for the most part with some dissapointments. The paper is a card stock that immediately feels like quality. However the images are double sided not single sided so using pens or markers might be risky despite the card stock.

The images also extend into the binding wich is maddening when trying to color and a pet peeve of mine. They also extend to the absolute end of the page on some images. It goes without saying the pages are not perforated either.

All in all if your a Kerby fan this is a good find!

I'm leery of adding any new mods until this is resolved assuming I can.

Shangri-La

This book, Shangri-La is part of a series of books in the Mythographic Series.

There are so many things to love about this book and I tried to find a con side to make sure I'm not biased and I failed.

First of course the illustrations are beautiful. I was expecting Asian influence in the illustrations as the story of Shangri-La originates in Asia.

What i found was a beautiful collection of drawings that depicts the idea of Shangri-La in it's philosophy. Faraway places of magic and beauty. A lost horizon of illustrations. A broad range ideals with much to inspire the imagination.

The pages are single sided so for those of you who prefer markers no need to worry about the back side. There is a fair amount of detail here however, markers would be challenging.

One of my favorite pet peeves in a book is when the illustration extends into the binding and it's impossible to color. That doesn't happen here as there is a broad enough border around each page not to have that worry.

Lastly, each page is perforated for easy removal as many of us like to make copies to experiment with different techniques.

If you have the opportunity to purchase a book from this series and you have a preference for detailed illustrations, I can't recommend it enough.

Keep on Coloring!

Chartwell Books

I have a winner here for those of us who like to budget shop their books. It's not just one book but a publisher, Chartwell Books.

I found the Paranormal book at Ollie's for $3.99 and the Forest book at 5 Below for 3$ and change.

With 70 illustrations to color that's a bargain!

The pages are a heavier paper and each page, while not single sided, the back is a fun repeating mandala type pattern that does just as well not colored.

The illustrations range from bolder prints to more detailed illustrations.

I have seen other books by them covering topics like Mushrooms and Flowers as well. All of them with the same general lay out.

As far as I can tell there does not appear to be any Ai. It's nice to find something budget friendly that is hand drawn.

If you're on a coloring budget Ollie's and 5 Below for Chartwell books are a good choice!

Bokeh, derived from Japanese for "blur" or "haze," is the aesthetic quality of the out-of-focus, blurry background in a photograph, often appearing as soft, circular orbs.

It is largely considered a photography effect that has found it's way into the coloring hobby.

So let's see those blurry circles!

Thank you so much to u/Wackikat for letting us use their image to demonstrate!

BUDDY COLOR!! MAY

Welcome to our monthly buddy color collaborations!

***What is a "Buddy Color"?***

A buddy color is a collaboration where you and other people color the same page or theme together, as a project.

The purpose of this monthly post is to help you connect with others who are looking for a buddy coloring collaboration.

You can use the comments section here to join or create a collaboration!

***How to find a buddy:***

- Search the comments for someone who has suggested book(s)/page(s)/theme(s) you are interested in, and respond.

- Post a comment suggesting the book(s)/page(s)/theme(s) you would like to color with others.

Once you've found your collaborators, you can organize among yourselves when/how you want to share your pages with each other and the sub. If you are not sure, don’t be afraid to ask! Everyone here is friendly and this is a no-judgement zone.

Many organizers will post a gallery at the end of the month, to make it easy to flip through the pages and see back-to-back, what the group came up with.

Feel free to use the comments section here, connect via DM on Reddit, or use the sister [Discord](https://www.reddit.com/r/ColoringCozy/s/As4vym3JBt) to work out the details of sharing your pages.

***Can we post our completed pages?***

We definitely want to see your pages! Don’t forget to use the ***"Buddy Color" flair***! and if posting a gallery, tag your buddies by username in the comments! (Tags only work in comments, for some reason).

***Is there a deadline?***

Some collaborations have a monthly deadline, and others are ongoing; these are some of the details the organizer and group can decide among themselves.

***What if I don't own the book/page?***

To participate in a buddy colour, you need to own the page you are colouring. ***Do not make copies of a page and distribute it.*** This violates copyright laws and harms creators. If you do not own the page, please purchase it yourself.

Several buddy color groups use pages made freely available by the artist, that everyone can access.

***I am an artist. Can I share books/pages I have drawn?***

For buddy colors, you can provide a link to free downloadable page(s) you have created. However, please do not use the sub just as a sales platform. See our rule about self-promotion, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ColoringCozy/about/rules

***Alternative Buddy Ideas***

Don’t want to choose a specific page or just want some variety? Here are some other ways you can buddy color collaboratively:

- Choose or create a color palette that everyone will use, on their different pages

- Create a buddy color collaboration to raise awareness about a cause; here is one list of color options: https://theawarenesscompany.com/pages/your-guide-to-awareness-ribbon-color-meanings

- Choose a theme (i.e. “Winter,”“Cats,” “Mushrooms,” “Frogtober,” “Stained glass,” “Nighttime,” etc.)

- Feel free to browse our past Weekly Challenges and Monthly Themes in our wiki for more ideas!

This one gave me a bit of a problem. The right side of the page had lots of open space that didn't seem to be part of the drawing. No trees or mountain. I CAN'T DRAW! So I cheated with a quote hoping it looks a bit like a storybook.
