Looking for Romance Writers (with publishing goal)

I’m looking to connect with other romance writers who are actively working toward publishing their manuscripts, whether you're aiming for traditional publishing or self-publishing or what have you.

I’m currently in a great local in-person writing workshop group where we critique and motivate each other, but I really want to build an online circle specifically tailored to romance authors as I don't know anyone else writing romance. If there’s enough interest, we can start up a cozy, dedicated Discord server together for regular chats, sprints, and accountability. I'm also more than happy to join another discord if there is one? Please only comment, as I won't see direct messages.

I'm in my thirties and looking to connect with other adults. I'm currently writing a horromance novel I'd like to maybe at least get to querying very soon!

Genre: All things romance! (fantasy romance, romantic suspense, historical romance, rom-com, dark romance, horror-romance, etc.). Long-form (novels) only.

Goals & Expectations: To serve as an encouragement hub and sounding board for authors on the path to publication. We can share industry updates, brainstorm plot holes, host writing sprints, and do optional critique/feedback swaps, etc.

Experience Level: All levels welcome, as long as you are actively writing a project you intend to publish.

Meeting Place: Discord

Max Size: 20? keep it active enough but also the possibility of being a tight community

[Perfect Draw!] [async] The Sacred Game - card game anime roleplaying game inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh!

>“Give up...!? You wish! If I do that...how can I get to my future?”

>– Katsuya Jonouchi, Yu-Gi-Oh!

Shuffle City sits on top of something it doesn't understand... Concrete and commerce built over the ruins of an empire that treated card games as spiritual technology, that believed a person's soul could be bound into a deck and played. Most people don't know that. Most people just care that Shuffle City's Invitational is the hottest regional tournament in the country, and they want in.

You're a duelist. You've earned your spot. But things are getting weird on the edges of the tournament scene: a renowned collector found catatonic in his shop, a rising star who won her last match with no memory of playing it, and reports of duelists vividly dreaming of opponents they have never met.

Something old is waking up under the city and it's drawn to the cards. Whether the Shuffle City Invitational actually crowns a champion or becomes the backdrop for something it was never meant to host depends on your deck, and what you're willing to lose to play it.

#####About the Game

I'm looking for up to 6 players for a Perfect Draw! play-by-post game, heavily inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters and its Battle City and Memory World arcs. I am looking for 6 to start in an attempt to make up for attrition, but I do believe that 6 in pbp format for this game could work regardless (if we get lucky and everyone stays). Perfect Draw! is kind of niche so no initial familiarity is needed.

Please fill out the Google form if you are interested. Age 18+ only (not that I imagine much nsfw would take place, but because I am in my thirties and don't feel comfortable with anyone below 18).

Schedule: Three posts per week minimum. Individuals will be given two reminders maximum. I will do my best to post more than 3 times in order to push the story.

Writing Style: I am looking for people who are comfortable reading and writing posts that are a paragraph minimum. I myself am wordy and like to write longer posts (multiple paragraphs typically). Absolutely no rapid-fire/single sentences unless it suits a given situation.

What I Want: I want players who like to get into the mindset of a character. I want to see characters really indulge in the flamboyant play-style of these card games, and indulge themselves in their writing. Perfect Draw! is a ttrpg that uses a card game mechanic to complement it. It is not a card game with ttrpg elements. Roleplay is the priority.

About Me: I’ve been playing pbp rp for over 20 years. I have played several TTRPGs, including running them in-person and in pbp format. My irl group is currently playing Call of Cthulhu and a Free League game (which I’m running).

#####Thank you so much for any interest!!

  • Status: This is not first come/first serve. The form will remain open until Thursday (June 11). Once the form is closed, I will go through and contact those playing.

4 hours MAX run time one-shot operations? Particularly shotgun scenarios?

My apologies in advance as I have searched the subreddit multiple times, but I feel I need more specific advice.

I need a one-shot scenario to run for my table, as we will be down a player and need something to finish in a single session while the player is gone. We typically play for around three hours, but I could probably push it to four hours if necessary. I just need help because there's a ton of shotgun scenarios out there if I'm going to look at those, and I have been but it's a lot. Not sure how many official scenarios are actually one-shot-able.

A lot of the recommendations I've seen are typically Music from a Darkened Room (I don't think this is doable in even four hours), Lover in the Ice (same thing), something from Control Group (the one I'm most familiar with is Sick Again and that's definitely at least two sessions imo), or Last Things Last (I've played and ran this thing so many times, if I have to do it again I will go insane). I've also ran Puppet Shows & Shadow Plays before and that took two sessions. PX Poker Night does not appeal to me, and neither does 'The Button' shotgun.

I'm considering shotgun scenario 'Burner', but not sure if it will really hit right with my group. 'Metamorphosis' might be good but I kind of want to save it in case I get to properly run a Delta Green campaign for this group. Can anyone think of any other interesting, short scenarios or published operations and can provide a brief sentence about what it's about so I can take a look?

One of the players was in my group when I ran The Night Floors, and one of the players had played LTL with me when I was a player before. The other two have not played Delta Green but we play CoC together.
