Dissociative identity disorder in our main characters

I am writing a romantasy where the main character is a demon and has did. The story is in stream of consciousness pov. I have roughly an idea about a few of the alters that exist.
Like a care taker + prosecutor alter
A fragment host whose only job is to host since they have the best senses.
Gatekeeper alter whose only job is to keep the care taker from surfacing(I think).
Also their partner is kind of a red flag too and I don’t want them to be reduced to simply accepting everything. They have a saviors complex where instead of leaving they brim obsessed with ‘saving them’. It’s a bit complicated. But right now, the mc just stays with the love interest even though the love interest spoils them a lot to the mc who had no memories they are suspicious.( though I suppose that’s not a did writing issue).
I don’t want it to be confusing for the readers.
Idk can someone who has writing did characters give me some pointers here??

Will this ruin my comics?

I am against AI to the core and would prefer to keep it out of all my work, but I am now in a difficult position.

My language is not English and I work on fan made comics, and of course it is in English, I'm using a translator, but it doesn't capture exactly what I want the characters to say... and it occurred to me to write the script myself... and put it in chatgbt and choose the best phrases, and I don't have anyone to correct my grammar mistakes.

Do I need to give up this method? And if so, what should I do instead?

The writing rules I wish someone had told me earlier

  1. You don’t have to force it.

If you want to write — write. If you can’t — step away.

  1. Sometimes it’s enough

to simply read what you’ve already written, to stay close to the story.

  1. If writing starts to feel tense — if you catch yourself getting frustrated or restless — stop.

Words pulled out by force don’t carry the same weight. They don’t feel like yours.

  1. You write because you love it.

Try not to turn it into something rigid, something that feels like obligation.

In my story could the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (from the bible) make people crazy

so I am writing a book for fun about twisted angels in a cyberpunk city and in the middle of the city is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and when someone eats from it they go mad and like go crazy immediately after eating the fruit I know thats not what happens in the bible (I am not Christian but my book is based off the Bible) but it is based on it, could this work?

LGBTQ+-friendly group without transactional vibes

Hey. I'm Joan (she/her), 28 years of age, an amateur writer and mother of two.

I've joined several Discord groups, and I can't help but feel they are either incredibly strict and transactional, an unorganized mess with over a thousand channels, or just a bunch of 'bros' who are closed-minded to anything outside their niche.

I'd love some recommendations regarding writing groups! Preferably +18/+21

  • Genre/s: Any
  • Goals/expectations/commitment: I want to read others' work and have my own work read. That is the spirit of it for me.
  • Writing/experience level: Any
  • Meeting place: Discord
  • [Writing groups only] Max size: Less than 200/300

X silenced me for 20 hours — and I didn't even break the rules

writers, how's X treating you?

I couldn't post for 20 hours without exceeding any limits.

has this happened to anyone else? and what do you do when it happens again? 😭

Looking for 1-3 Critique Partners to Swap Manuscripts - Fantasy / Romantasy Genre Preferably!

* Genre/s: Dark contemporary urban-ish fantasy
* Goals/expectations/commitment: Swap manuscripts of similar length, exchange ideas about structure, plot/twists, character arcs, pacing - I'm on round 4 of revisions
* Writing/experience level: This is my second novel, but the last novel I wrote was when I was 16 and it was a hot garbage romance so we don't talk about it.
* Meeting place: discord or email?
* Max size: 3

I would like a partner to critique my manuscript, ideally swap, but up to you. Ideally, you're a huge fantasy fan. I would like to have our critique feedback done by end of June, at the latest.

Here‘s a quick overview of my story: In a magical society dominated by men, Saoirse Atsidi, a young female Conjurer, will do whatever it takes to make her family proud by becoming a top student at Draíocht Academy, even if it means being Promised to a boy she hates and killing her mother in the Tionscnamh — a ritual sacrifice designed to awaken her elemental affinity — to gain admittance. Reeling in the aftermath, she struggles to process the horrific consequences of losing her mother at her own hand and her excitement at possessing the element of fire, an affinity not possessed by a female Conjurer in over a century.

A Few Notes:

  • This is NOT a romantasy, enemies-to-lovers, trope heavy story, but some forbidden romance ish b plot
  • Leans a bit dark academia since most of the story takes place at a magical academy
  • Includes trials
  • Includes elemental magic
  • Explores themes of misogyny, mother-daughter relationships, SA, trauma, and anxiety

Witholding character details on purpose

I am writing a story where I deliberately do not mention the ethnicity of my mmc until well into it. Other descriptors like build, nationality, background, past are all there. Would that be frustrating for the reader? I'm a tiny bit doing it because I'm a gremlin and want people to "check" their biases as well.

Perspective on First Drafts

There is a lot of negativity about first drafts. That say we should do This and this while avoiding that, that, and that. It's been my experience, that sometimes when I try to avoid what I'm not suppose to do, the more I find it's hard to avoid doing them. I think it's cause it is inviting me to find out why these writing craft mechanics work or don't work. The beauty of writing is you learn the most by actually writing and gaining experience. There's no writing police making the rules, only the integrity of your work.

The first draft is a maiden voyage of exploration anyway so why not take the time to do so. Make the mess, let the imagination out of the cage and make magic on the page that comes alive and has your readers on the edge of their seats. The first draft is the foundation of your fine work in progress. So I say replace that negativity with more positive outlooks on first drafts. Your work will shine for it and your audience will thank you. Remember You are a work in progress too. Don't beat yourself up.

Can a book be cyberpunk but mediaeval at the same time

could a book be like futuristic, glowing swords and guns, laser, floating cars stuff like that but at the same time could it be more like medieval thinking, mediaeval like style of social life like Emperor, Shogun, Daimyo, Samurai, Ashigaru, Peasants, Artisans, Merchants, Buddhist monks, Shinto priests, etc but like futuristic could that work?

Group of writers scheduling time to write together?

I'm a writer that hasn't written in a while and I've noticed it's mostly due to my inability to set scheduled time for writing. I've heard people say things like "if there's something you'd like to do more often set aside time to yourself to do that" but I just really struggle to do that, however I have also realized that I prioritize things that are scheduled and involve people I like and am excited to be around (like DND for example) so I'm wondering if anyone know about a group of writers that set aside 1-2 hours a week to get together and write? Or if someone would be interested in starting a group like that?

Short run book printing for first launch, what's the actual sweet spot under 250 copies

I'm finalizing a memoir and trying to figure out how many copies to print for the initial launch. I've gone back and forth between 50, 100, and 250 for weeks now and I keep getting different advice depending on who I ask.

Here's my actual situation. I have maybe 30 confirmed buyers from my email list and immediate family. I have a small signing event in late June where I might move 20 to 40 copies if things go well. And then I want some inventory for online sales through my own website over the following six months while word of mouth builds.

The math problem is that per unit cost drops a lot between 50 and 100, and again between 100 and 250, but I really don't want to be sitting on 200 unsold books in my closet either. I've seen friends do print runs of 500 and then still have boxes of them three years later, which feels like the worst possible outcome.

Most printers I've checked have a 24 or 25 copy minimum, which is great, but the economics at that quantity are rough and It's mainly because the setup costs get spread over a very small print run, so each copy ends up carrying a much bigger share of that fixed cost. . I went with DiggyPod for this one after comparing four options. They had a 24 copy minimum which gave me flexibility, free shipping kicked in at 100 books, and the rep on the phone actually talked me through whether 100 or 150 made more sense given my situation rather than just trying to upsell. Ended up at 125 because I wanted some cushion for the signing event without going crazy. Also, they do free ground shipping over 100 orders.

For those who've done a first launch in this range, what did you actually print and how long did it take to move them. The reorder question matters too, I'd love to hear how that worked out for people.

Getting too detailed, adding stuff, getting lost in my book as it's overflowing

I'm a very non-linear neurodivergent person, writing a non-fiction book. I can't write in order. I write in segments that I feel intuitively where should land and how they will connect. But as I make write, I keep adding details, and I duplicate information because it fits in various parts, and I repeat myself and make things so much more "absolute" that it's overwhelming to navigate or edit.

English is not my first language. And I've never been a writer. I am an artist and write how I paint. Writing has become an important thing because there's no other way to express what I know other than in a book.

Not only I have trouble with writing well single sentences, but the whole book has become a monstrosity, I don't know how to continue. I'm on my eight rewrite (if you can call that because, I've never actually written the whole draft. But I feel the need to start over, to clean and clear the structure and content over and over, and keep making the same mistake—as explained above.

Can anyone advice? Especially I would appreciate from people, who work like me.
