Disclaimer: **Do not harasss the people mentioned in this post. Just because Reze or those who love Reze/DenReze including me is harassed, hated, or even got death threat, doesn’t mean others should be as well.**
Usually I avoid hot topic discussions of both RezeCult and Chainsawfolk, and as much as I don’t like the community of Chainsawfolk, this is the rarest moment that I had to agree with them.
In my response, I know many of you love Reze a lot (and so do I) but let’s not get carried away from the story. I actually do agree most of the OP’s takes, except the disagreement is “self defense”. Reze is still a ruthless killer and she committed a mass murder no matter if she is following an orders from the Soviet Government. And as tragic as her backstory is, this doesn’t justify in her killings and carpet bombing of devil hunters, women and children, and so many innocents that has nothing to do with her and the Soviet Government’s dirty work.
Another example of my disagreement: one time I saw the op comment saying her killing of civilians devil hunters is “self defense.” Here’s my counter argument, the civilian devil hunters are ACTUALLY doing self defense. Civilians Devil are full of hired private bounty hunters and mercenaries doing their job to PROTECT CIVILIANS from the devils (They didn’t knew Reze was a hybrid at that moment). Reze on the other hand, doing her job to CAPTURE CHAINSAW HEART and will kill everyone that gets in her way for her missions.
Now honestly, I don’t think she really is a heartless killer, I see her more as a complex and flawed character who operates as both a deadly Soviet assassin and a deeply sympathetic figure. The world of Chainsaw Man is morally grey, instead in the classic good vs evil. She of course doesn’t enjoy killing but she also doesn’t think too much about her killing during her being forced into violence by the Soviet Union until she was defeated by her biggest weakness, Denji her lover. Most of the beloved characters are morally grey including Reze. And there so many characters who are more henious and worse than Reze. (Ex. Makima, Barem, Santa Clause, etc.)
