I have re-ascended back to 21:9! Asus PG34WCDN.

Asus PG34WCDN. Purchased from NewEgg.

So, I initially had an Alienware AW3423DW when it released, but wasn’t “wowed” by it. And back then, the games I played had a lot of issues with 21:9. I finally jumped shipped to my current Alienware AW3225QF 4K monitor, when it launched. I’ve been rocking that sense and have been somewhat happy with it. Although running at 4K gets to be a chore sometimes, even with an RTX 4090 - depending on the game…especially for someone that likes to just max everything out (Ultra or Extreme). But the Gsync on the AW3225QF was getting wonky in certain games. For example, I could not get Black Ops 7 to run “smooth” at all, no matter the setting. The only setting where it ran smooth was with FrameGen enabled.

Anywho, the appeal of Ultrawide started calling to me again, since it’d been a few years and I heard Alienware was releasing a new AW3426DW panel. But given it’s not out for a while here in the U.S., I started researching other monitors - I was kinda feeling a change of brand, anyway.

I was originally gonna go with the MSI MPG 341CQR X36, but what the hell is up with the stock? I’ve had it on order with Amazon for a while and it’s still yet to ship. So, I started looking at the Asus PG34WCDN and was reluctant, given it was so much more expensive here than the MSI variant. But I figured why not, with full bandwidth DP 2.1, I’d be future-proof if I decided to upgrade to a 50 or higher series video card later on. I’m pretty happy with my 4090 right now, tho.

So far, absolutely no regrets. I calibrated it per TFT Centrals “Best Settings” YouTube video (the only thing I skipped was turning Uniform Brightness on), set all my OCC profiles, did the HDR calibration, etc. It’s been perfect. Even Black Ops 7 is smooth as hell now, with FrameGen off! I’ve also noticed way less VRR flicker here, than what I had on my other. The only issue had had was initially, I’d get this weird, random black flicker once in a blue moon on my desktop. But after manually powering off the monitor for a minute or so and back on, it’s not done it any more. Also, I don’t have any of the weird “green tint” issues in HDR that a few have had, which I’ve seen on here. If it matters - my panel was manufactured in April 2026. No firmware updates yet, it seems. I do love the Asus DisplayWidget Center, lol. Just odd it doesn’t show an option to check for a Firmware update. To my understanding, it won’t show unless one is available.

Oh and I’m also loving the extra bit of FPS I’ve gotten from going from 4k 16:9 down to 2k 21:9. I’ll also say that I’ve not noticed any difference in sharpness with the drop, whatsoever.

Just wanted to give my quick experience here with some positive feedback, as this is the first Asus monitor I’ve owned.

Trying to find a solution so I can use Govee bulbs in my ceiling fan

In the U.S., for context - as I know sockets and such vary from country to country.

Ignore the dust, lol - I took the pic from a random ceiling fan in the house to use for an example. Anyway…our ceiling fans have these older GU24 “lock-in” sockets. So annoying…

In my game room, I’m using some GU24 to E26 adapter and a set of Magic Home RGB lights. They fit, but barely. Prob with the adapter is that they make the socket bulkier and I can’t find any good low-profile ones.

Anyway, before getting those Magic Home bulbs, I did try an older model Govee A19 bulb, but they were pressing against the ceiling fan dome and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving it like that.

Anyway, I see Govee has newer models, since the ones I got was way back in 2022. I’m just worried that it will be the same scenario and Govee doesn’t seems to make smaller bulbs than the A19 with a normal U.S. “medium” screw-in base.

This is the one I ordered back in 2022:

https://a.co/d/089d8M0q

And this is the “new” model I’m looking at:

https://a.co/d/01n2WLKZ or https://a.co/d/03567Dr1

Dimensions all seem the same, tho. 🫤

Any thoughts or ideas on how I can make a Govee bulb work?

I got the new Govee Lantern Lamp and the Floor Lamp 3 coming from Amazon, so I’m in an RGB upgrade mode and would really love to get some proper Govee bulbs in my ceiling fan!

Thanks in advance! 😎

Asus PG34WCDN or MSI MPG 341CQR x36. Help deciding.

Hey, all!

Ok, I’ve made a few posts and comments on various subreddits about the MSI one. But after some research and further digging, I’m really torn.

I was able to snag an order for the MSI earlier in the week on Amazon for delivery in July - big range tho…anywhere between the 6th and 25th, lol. But that’s not really an issue.

With the Asus, I could get it in a week or two at most retailers, if not quicker. But again, I’m patient and that’s not an issue. I’m in no hurry.

For the record, I’m running an RTX 4090. I’m also currently using a Dell MSA20 monitor arm, which my AW3225QF just “snaps” into.

For the MSI:

  1. Some users have had problems with the bezel not being true edge to edge. In my research, this seems to be overblown and mostly likely a user-specific resolution issue (not set properly.

  2. I’ve heard the cable management is not the greatest and the cables stick out below the monitor due to the ports in the rear being more shallow.

  3. VRR flicker. This is the biggest one. While some of the major reviewing sites say they’ve had almost no issue with it, other reviews and feedback state the flicker on the MSI can be terrible - moreso than other brands. How true is this?

  4. The price is only $900-$950 USD. Given the main difference between this and the ASUS is the slightly lower bandwidth DP 2.1 port, that’s not a bad deal.

  5. I dunno how I feel about the bottom bezel being silver?

  6. I love the stand, but will prob still put it on my monitor arm. But if I do decide to use the stand, that’s definitely a viable option, as it doesn’t take a lot of desk space. Any idea if this would just “snap” onto my monitor arm without a VESA plate?

For the ASUS:

  1. I’ve read the build quality is a bit better than the MSI version. The ports in the rear are deeper and the overall design aesthetic is cleaner and has a higher build quality. I do really love how the ASUS looks, overall.

  2. The DP 2.1 port is full spec. While I know this is irrelevant with my 4090, there is the aspect of future-proofing. Moreso than the MSI.

  3. The stand. While higher quality and more “gamer-y”, I’m not a fan, honestly. I’d be way less likely to mount this on my arm than to use the stand or be tempted to shwitch from my arm to the stand. Speaking of, I head the ASUS provides a VESA adapter plate, the MSI does not? Any idea if this would just “snap” onto my monitor arm without a VESA plate?

  4. VRR flicker. I’ve not heard much about it on this monitor. Any insight?

So, all-in-all. The other specs are pretty similar (360hz, etc). It’s just hard for me to justify the extra $400 for the ASUS.

So, with the above factors in mind, anyone who has either or have used both of these monitors - could you provide some further insight and/or guidance on which I should go with? I’ve also been eyeballing the new Alienware AW3426DW, which is what initially made me lock onto the MSI - way better specs for just slightly more (like $100 diff, if the AW one launched for $800). But then once I started deep diving, that ASUS became more tempting. Haha.

MSI MPG 341CQR X36 - Edge/Bezel question.

Hey, all! After about a month of eyeballing this monitor, I finally secured an order on Amazon for July shipment. However, in looking at the Amazon reviews, one user was talking about the bezel (left and right) and how it’s for more of a black inner “frame” bezel and isn’t edge-to-edge, like how the Asus PG34WCDN is. After seeing this, I’m like uhhhh, surely they’re making a big deal out of something small.

Then in watching some YouTube videos, the first pic is very much like what the Amazon review described and that’s how his looked. BUT…in watching the Monitors Unboxed comparison video between the Asus one and the MSI one - the second pic - it looks more “normal”. But it’s such a drastic difference!

Sooo. Can anyone with this monitor fill me in? Is it true edge-to-edge like the Dell/Alienwares are and more importantly, like its Asus counterpart is?

Thanks! Any help or insight would be appreciated. If it winds up being a deal-breaker, I may swing for the Asus one instead (but I really don’t wanna spend THAT much more….) or just wait for the new Alienware AW3426DW.

Also, another concern I’ve seen is that the rear ports are pretty shallow and the connected DP cable kinda protrudes out a bit underneath, making it a bit unsightly. Is this true, as well?

Q990F has arrived!

This will be an upgrade to my aging Samsung Q90R soundbar from 2019.

I scored this on sale over the weekend for half off ($999.99) at Best Buy. So, I was able to couple that with an extended warranty AND 24-months no interest (which I will have paid off in less than a year).

I’d been eyeballing the one over on Woot, but they only had a 90-day warranty for the price, which was in the $800 range. There was another selection there that had a 1-year Samsung Warranty, but it was in the higher $900’s.

So, I felt this was a win/win! I did store shipment, since it said it would be shipped in the retail box if I had it come to my house - which was a huge risk with FedEx/UPS (I’ve had bad experiences with big box deliveries like this…one was with my Q90R). What’s weird is - picked it up yesterday at Best Buy and noticed the back and one side of the box is in pretty rough shape, so hoping everything is 100%.

How’s it working for everyone that has this model? Heard from some posts here that there are a few with issues from the latest firmware update. But then, others are perfectly fine. Anyone have issues with crackling, audio dropouts, etc? Who has had zero issues at all? 😎

Samsung Q990F incoming! Quick setup question regarding the Sub/Bass.

So yesterday, Best Buy had the Samsung Q990F soundbar on sale for $999.99. I’ve been eyeballing the Woot one for a few months, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. But, with this coming from Best Buy, not only did I get it for $1,000, I also got an extended Warranty on it, as well as an extended return period, all through my Total Tech Membership (or whatever it’s called, lol). On top of this, I was able to score 24-months no interest. So, I caved to the impulse buy, lol.

This will be an upgrade to my aging Samsung Q90R soundbar that I’ve had since 2019. I mostly game on this with my LG OLED TV and PS5 Pro. In my research, I keep hearing about where this is a “dual-opposing sub” that it can be finicky where it’s placed. My current sub is set up to the right of my entertainment center, kinda angled and a few inches away from the side.

Would that be sufficient with this new sub for the Q990F, still? Or would another placement be better? My gaming room is kinda small and has my TV Entertainment Center area with all that stuff, then on the other wall, I have my PC gaming desk, with all that stuff.

So, I’m just trying to get a feel in advance, before I pick it up early next week (store delivery). Also, any setup tips, tricks, pointers and any issues ya’ll may be having with it would be amazing.

Thanks!

MSI 341CQR QD-OLED X36 availability (U.S.A)?

So, I know this monitor has been out now since like, Jan/Feb 2026. Any idea why this is still not readily available here in the U.S.?

Literally every retailer site I’ve been to is showing unavailable. B&H Photo, MSI’s site. Best Buy. Amazon. I literally cannot find anywhere to purchase this.

Anyone have any insight or a retailer that sells this here in the U.S.? From what bit of reaching out I’ve done, seems like most places won’t have stock until July. But if that’s the case, I may as well just spring for the AW3426DW, instead…I just like the MSI way better.

Thanks!

MSI 34" Ultrawide and Monitor Arm compatability?

Hey, all! I'm seriously considering getting the new MSI MPG 341CQR X36 34", if/when I can find stock for it. In preparation, as I've never had an MSI monitor before, I'm hoping someone here could perhaps help me.

I currently have the Dell MSA20 single-monitor arm and I love it. I'm currently using a 32" AW3225QF monitor on it. What I love is the back of the Alienware monitor just simply snaps onto the arm and clicks into place. With a previous 34" I've had from Alienware, it was the original OLED one that release a number of years back....it included a plate you had to attach to the back, then snap it on.

What can I expect, typically, with MSI monitors? Would it just be a "snap on" to my arm bracket and if not, do they give you the plate with the monitor to attach, so it snaps on?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as moving from a different brand that I've gotten used to makes me a little nervous, haha - but I've heard great things about MSI monitors!

▲ 6 r/Saros

So, anyone else rocking the Dualsense Edge? Playing Saros with it and I did my usual shooter mapping - I made the left rear Jump and the right rear Dash. But I’m not sure why, it feels kinda …off? I think it’s the addition to R1 being the Shield button and sometimes it feels weird having to hold that in when I’m jumping and dashing through things.

So, wanted to get a feel some mappings others have done with their Edge and how well that’s working out for ya? I did wind up moving Dash from L1 to Circle via the games Controller settings menu. So I have X to my read left and O to my rear right.
