Steam game needs Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

Hello, I need help launching Astroneer. I've tried forcing Proton-GE and Experimental, this is the first game I've had an issue like this come up in steam. How can I fix it?

Edit - reading the card explains the card (install without fear)

$10 pickup off Facebook Marketplace

The games were in the binder and I wasn’t sure what all I’d get, mystery for the fun of it. Pretty happy that all the Baldur’s Gate disks seem to be there (plus a soundtrack!) and the discs are in great condition.

Not pictured are a couple CDs with classical music and one unmarked that I’m not sure if I’ll try out or not. What do yall think? Any gems yall have played?

Lutris not seeing proton when installing game disc

Hi, I’m trying to install Crysis 2 using a disc on Lutris and am getting this error. Any idea how to get it working? I have more screenshots and info if you need, haven’t had any issues with proton on steam but the place it’s looking for (in the “possible reasons”) is empty.

Questions from someone looking to switch distros for gaming

I’m a Linux noob that’s been running Bazzite for a few days. After finding certain road blocks due to it being immutable I have been wanting to try out either CachyOS or Nobara. I wanted to ask about a few things I’ve had trouble/ heard things about before I make the switch. Sorry everything is so specific but sharing any experience with this is appreciated!

  1. Discord activity - I have been running the flatplak version of Discord which obviously doesn’t work for game activity but I don’t have any simple way to install other versions and Vesktop didn’t seem to work either. Has anyone had good experience with using Discord on Nobara with activity working?
  2. Drivers and Proton - Are NVIDIA drivers

(I have a 2070)

  1. and all of the necessary proton/ gaming compatibility things easily installed? Bazzite had these automatically.
  2. Millennium - I only play steam in desktop mode, not really looking for a console experience, so I have been looking into using Millennium to add steam plugins in desktop mode. This is impossible on Bazzite and I think that Arch has the best support for this but has anyone tried it on Nobara? Would it be much harder than if I just went with CachyOS for this?

Anything is appreciated, thanks yall

ProtonDB badges on Steam Desktop mode?

Is there a way for me to integrate Proton DB badges on Steam Desktop mode like how they work with decky loader in game mode? I only plan to play on desktop.

Less importantly, are there ways to incorporate other fun additions like you can on the deck too, like HLTB, better organization tools, or even cosmetic stuff on the steam desktop? Thanks.

Looking to make the switch but unsure what to prioritize in distro choice

I finally got a new windows laptop for school and am wanting to switch my desktop (Ryzen 5 5500, RTX 2070) to linux after having a great experience with my steam deck and not wanting/ being able to easily upgrate to windows 11.

I have heard good things about Bazzite and POP OS for gaming, which is mostly what the PC is used for, but I would like to make sure it still feels like a PC at the end of the day. I like the idea of steam and those things being pre-installed but not if it will make me have to compromise on other things. I have also hear good stuff about Mint, but that it would take more work to be able to game with.

My biggest concerns are moving files over from windows (ie external drive compatibility), drivers since I have an NVIDIA GPU and, my peripherals (RGB speakers w/ presets, YARG plastic guitar game), and overall stability. I know none of this is new but if anyone could share their current setup or at least point me to some solid places for research that would be super appreciated.

TLDR; Ready for change but scared, recommend distro for gaming w/o compromising PC usability
