Not me doing OSL on a gunpla pilot

Went the full Grimdark with the Mini painting techniques used on the Lupus. He looks like I painted him.
Uaing Daler Rowney artist oils as a filter. Used to doing this on 30mm scale minis, so still working out how much to use :) You can't really see the difference the final result makes in the photo. It's better IRL, trust me.
1/100 MG Barbatos Lupus.
Barbatos Lupus MG. Been having a lovely time detailing the inner frame.
Bsndai Mechanical Bust Lineup #7, full paint.
Still working out how to segue from mini painting into gunpla. Painted up a Mechanical Bust gachapon. I'm happy with it. Acrylics, mostly airbrushed (no safe means of spraying solvents still) and AK Starship Detail Wash for that coating of spacedust.
There's just so much pleasure in the process of building and painting a thing like this. I admit, there isn't quite enough in the episode 7 kit to make both versions at once — there's three polycaps and a cannon part you need to duplicate, but I had a broken Rozen Zulu (original) that out of incompetence I'd completely ruined and broken months ago in the "to repair" box.
So when I started, i thought, do I build this as the original Rozen Zulu or the Episode 7 version? Well, why not both? Spares from kits I'd trashed in the past when I didn't know what I'm doing allowed for swappable arms.
I actually cracked out the airbrush for bits of this, although resources limit me to acrylics. Largely it's rattle cans and Humbrol enamel. Colour Forge Rogue Pink was an MVP. Not sure of the wisdom of painting parts of it exactly the same colour as the plastic, but hey ho.
I think I saw a ZakuAurelius video where this just was a thing he did, without even mentioning it, as part of the painting process and it's a Neo-Zeon Sleeves kit, so you kind of have to paint it, right? It's really satisfying!
I learned so much from this guy. Like how interesting space shuttle weathering is, and why painting already tight pegs is a dangerous thing...
OK, so I have been painting miniatures, specialising in a grimdark grunge style, and mostly using oil paints, for a long time. But this is my first go at painting the whole of a Gunpla, inspired by the fact that I couldn't bear to do the gold bits on the ride of Mrs Frontal's little boy here with stickers, and realised it'd look, well, off if I only did those bits.

I don't have a setup that's safe for airbrushing solvent paints, so largely the surfaces are done with a rattlecan base and sponged on enamel for the surfaces and various applications of oils and acrylics for weathering. I'm not sure that the multiple shades of red I used (there are three) come out in the picture. And yes, Full is in there, fully (frontally) painted, Space Mullet and all, and no one will ever see him.

This took me a very long time. Along the way I broke some parts, lost others and had to deal with some really annoying setbacks. But I am calling him done and treating him as a whole set of learned lessons, including: space shuttles weather in interesting ways; and, more upsettingly, when the joints are already tight, painting the pegs is a thing you're really gonna regret...
I got hold of the MG Sinanju OVA and realised it was either stickers, decals or paint for the gold bits. Obviously, having come to this hobby from old-skool model kits and miniature painting, I decided to do it the hard way. And then I realised that maybe it was time to have a go at painting tge whole thing.
I have no access to an airbrush setup that can safely do solvent paints unfortunately, so it's rattlecans and enamels sponge painted, Maschinen Krieger style, with the old reverse wash on the gold bits. I kind of like the texture. Gotta be honest, I thought this would be a disaster, but it's starting to come together.
