Started doing Mala Jaap when my anxiety spikes didn't expect it to help this much

I've been going through a stretch where my mind just won't settle. Constant noise, jumping from one worry to the next, that restless feeling where even sitting still feels impossible.

A while back I started picking up my mala when it gets bad and just chanting Hare Krishna, one bead at a time. Nothing fancy, no big ritual, just sitting somewhere quiet and going through it.

What's surprised me is how much it helps just to have one thing to focus on instead of ten scattered thoughts pulling at me. By the time I get through all 108 beads, I've usually forgotten what I was even anxious about earlier. It's not gone, but it's quieter. My breathing slows down without me trying to control it, my shoulders drop, and my mind stops racing so hard.

Finished a full mala the other day and felt this small, stupid sense of accomplishment over something so simple. Like I'd actually done something for myself instead of just white-knuckling through the anxiety.

I'm not saying this fixes everything or replaces actually working through what's causing the stress. But as a way to interrupt the spiral and come back to the present moment, it's honestly worked better for me than most other things I've tried.

Curious if others here use japa this way too less as strict sadhana and more just as a tool to calm the mind when things get overwhelming.

Seeking guidance on getting usage rights for ISKCON books in an app

Hi everyone,

I'm building an app and would like to include content from ISKCON publications (Bhagavad Gita As It Is, Srimad Bhagavatam, etc.) in a proper, authorized way. Before doing anything, I want to make sure I go through the right legal channels for permissions/licensing.

Could anyone point me toward:

  1. The correct body to contact —is it the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT), since I understand they hold the copyrights to Srila Prabhupada's works?
  2. Whether there's a formal licensing/permissions process for digital or app-based use (vs. print reproduction)?
  3. Any precedent apps or platforms that have already secured such rights — so I can understand what the process/terms typically look like?
  4. Rough timelines or costs involved, if anyone has gone through this before?

I want to be respectful of the intent behind these teachings and make sure everything is above board rather than assuming public availability means free usage rights. Any pointers, contacts, or personal experience would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Help me out nashik people

Hi everyone,

We are planning a trip from Telangana to Nashik and will be visiting Trimbakeshwar with a group of 5–6 people.

I wanted to get some local advice:

  1. Is it better to reach Nashik first and rent a car/bike there, or should we bring/hire a vehicle from Telangana itself?

  2. What are the usual rental charges for a car in Nashik?

  3. How easy is it to travel between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar without a personal vehicle?

  4. Can anyone suggest decent budget or mid-range rooms/hotels in Trimbakeshwar for 5–6 people? Approximate pricing would be very helpful.

We're looking for the most convenient and cost-effective option.

Thanks in advance!

Genz's of this community. We need to change

What do you mean when you say, "I haven't read the Gita"?

Why isn't it the norm to read the Gita and other scriptures of our religion?

I was with my friends, and we were discussing religion. Out of the five of us, one is Muslim and another is Christian. During the discussion, I realized that none of my Hindu friends had ever really read any Hindu religious books. On the other hand, my Muslim and Christian friends were quite familiar with their religious texts

it seemed normal for them to read and quote them.

Why is it that many of us see reading the Gita or other Hindu scriptures as something unusual, old-fashioned, or not modern?

I'm genuinely curious about why this difference exists.
