Osmo Pocket 4 Pro upgrade behaviour, regional patterns and migration trends
Now that the poll has closed with 472 votes, we can look at the upgrade behaviour in a more technical way. The OP4 Pro poll produced a very different pattern compared to the OP4 poll, and the geo data makes it possible to see whether the behaviour was regional or global. The short version is that OP3 owners showed the highest upgrade rate everywhere, and the pattern was consistent across almost all countries.
Below is a breakdown of the migration behaviour, the regional variation and the stability of the undecided group.
- Global upgrade behaviour
The largest single group in the entire poll was OP3 owners selling their OP3 and upgrading to the OP4 Pro. This group accounted for 18 percent of all votes. Another 13 percent said they would keep their OP3 and add an OP4 Pro. Combined, 31 percent of OP3 owners are moving in some way.
OP4 owners showed a different pattern. Only 2 percent said they would sell their OP4 and upgrade. Another 2 percent said they would keep their OP4 and add an OP4 Pro. Most OP4 owners either skipped the OP4 Pro or are waiting for more information.
- Skip behaviour
27.7 percent said they are staying on the OP3 and skipping the OP4 Pro.
10.9 percent said they are staying on the OP4 and skipping it.
This puts the total skip rate at 38.6 percent.
This is still a large group, but it is no longer the dominant behaviour like it was in the OP4 poll.
- Undecided and waiting behaviour
5.1 percent said they need more sample footage.
16.2 percent said they are waiting for real world reviews.
Combined, this is 21.3 percent.
This is almost identical to the hesitation rate in previous polls. The community consistently keeps a quarter of voters in a wait and see state.
- OP3 migration matrix
Sell OP3 and upgrade: 83
Keep OP3 and add: 62
Stay on OP3 and skip: 130
This produces the following OP3 behaviour rates:
Upgrade: 18 percent
Add: 13.2 percent
Skip: 27.7 percent
The remaining OP3 voters fall into undecided or waiting categories.
- OP4 migration matrix
Sell OP4 and upgrade: 9
Keep OP4 and add: 10
Stay on OP4 and skip: 51
This produces the following OP4 behaviour rates:
Upgrade: 1.9 percent
Add: 2.1 percent
Skip: 10.9 percent
OP4 owners are far less likely to replace their camera. Most either skip or add.
- Regional consistency
The geo data shows that the behaviour is stable across regions. The United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Australia, the Netherlands and Poland all show the same pattern:
OP3 upgrade is strong.
OP3 skip is strong.
OP3 add is moderate.
OP4 upgrade is low.
OP4 add is low.
OP4 skip is moderate.
No major region breaks this pattern.
Examples from the dataset:
United States: OP3 upgrade 20, OP3 add 30, OP3 skip 43
United Kingdom: OP3 upgrade 7, OP3 add 7, OP3 skip 17
Canada: OP3 upgrade 5, OP3 add 6, OP3 skip 11
Germany: OP3 upgrade 4, OP3 add 1, OP3 skip 4
Australia: OP3 upgrade 4, OP3 add 2, OP3 skip 3
Netherlands: OP3 upgrade 1, OP3 add 2, OP3 skip 9
Poland: OP3 upgrade 4, OP3 add 1, OP3 skip 2
The pattern is consistent across all of them.
- Outlier countries
Some countries show extreme behaviour due to low sample sizes. These are statistical noise rather than meaningful trends.
Sweden: 3 votes, all 3 OP3 upgrades
Peru: 2 votes, both OP3 upgrades
Antarctica: 1 vote, OP3 upgrade
These do not affect the global pattern.
- Interpretation
The OP4 Pro is the first model since the OP3 that produced a noticeable shift in OP3 owner behaviour. The upgrade rate is significantly higher than in the OP4 poll, and the pattern is global rather than regional. OP4 owners remain stable and are more likely to skip or add than to replace.
The undecided and waiting group remains stable across polls, suggesting that a consistent portion of the community prefers to wait for real-world data before making a decision.
- Summary
The OP3 crowd showed the highest upgrade rate.
The OP4 crowd showed the lowest upgrade rate.
Skip behaviour remains high but is no longer dominant.
Undecided behaviour remains stable.
Regional variation is minimal.
Outliers are due to small sample sizes.
This poll shows a clear and measurable shift in upgrade behaviour compared to the OP4 poll, and the geo data confirms that the trend is global.
Thanks to everyone who participated. Having both the raw numbers and the regional data makes it a lot easier to understand how the community actually behaves when new hardware lands.
The poll that made these numbers and statistics.
