Gender equality still has a long way to go in western countries, which includes many harmful double standards affecting men
Disclaimer: This post is in no way, shape or form trying to take away from the inequality that women suffer from on a daily basis, it simply is intended to shine a light on harmful double standards that exist against men. (This disclaimer being necessary acting as the first example)
If men treat men badly, people call it toxic masculinity. (Perpetrator framing) If women treat women badly, people call it internalized misogyny. (Sufferer framing)
If women are falling behind in education (70s), it's called patriarchy. If men are falling behind in education (today), it's viewed as "boys being boys".
If there's a lack of women in men-dominated spaces, it's time to support a women's quota. If there's a lack of men in women-dominated spaces, there is no push for a men's quota. (Fun fact: Male version of this word is missing in the German dictionary)
If men are being told to not stick their dick in crazy, it's called risk assessment. If women are being told to choose better, it's viewed as victim blaming.
If women are working jobs or participate in activities deemed as dangerous, it's viewed as inspirational trailblazing. If men are working jobs or participate in activities deemed as dangerous, it's called "this is why woman live longer".
If women (or men for that matter) are interrupting and overexplaining to men, people call it nagging. If men are interrupting and overexplaining to women, people call it "mansplaining".
