Am I wrong for not wanting to talk to my friend about my relationship anymore?
I recently got into a relationship, and in the beginning I loved telling my friends about all the little things..funny conversations, dates, random moments, all of it.
My boyfriend has a bit of a past, and my friends know some of it. They don’t know everything, though, and they definitely don’t know all the conversations we’ve had or the things we’ve worked through together. Because of what they do know, they don’t really have the best opinion of him.
After a while, I noticed I stopped talking about him as much. Not because anything was wrong between us, but because I felt like every time I shared something, there’d be skepticism or I’d somehow end up feeling like I had to justify my relationship.
Recently, one of my closest friends asked why I never talk about him anymore. The thing is, whenever I tell her something nice about my relationship, she almost always says something like, “Well, that’s because you guys just started dating.” I get where she’s coming from, and I know she’s probably trying to keep me grounded. But after hearing that enough times, it just makes me not want to share anything at all.
Her own relationship has been really messy lately, and she’s told me before that the first few months of her relationship were amazing too. So I don’t know if that’s making her see mine through that lens. I don’t think she’s trying to be hurtful, and I know she’s looking out for me. I just miss feeling like I could tell her about the happy parts of my life without them immediately being met with doubt or a reality check.
What should I do?
