Getting started?

Hello! So it’s just like how the title says— I’ve always wanted to learn animation but never really knew how to get started.

If it helps, I’d like to learn a really high energy, squishy/stretchy animation style more suited towards stylized art or odd character proportions.

Anyone know how I can even begin to look for something to help me learn that? Any help is much appreciated!

DokiDoki shipping times?

I’m a big fan of buying from DokiDoki as I’ve never had a negative experience with them personally— but Metrocon is in 10 days from now and I was wondering if DokiDoki would arrive in time here in the US before then?

The shipping times have always confused me personally, anyone have any idea about it?

Multi day con activities?

I’ve been going to conventions for a little while now— but it’s usually just been one day at a time.

Well, with Metrocon coming up soon I’m planning to stay for the full length of it and am worried that I’ll get bored after the first day or so.

To con goers who frequently do extended stays or trips to conventions, how do you guys handle that? Is there anything I can do to ensure I won’t easily bore or burn out at the convention?:

XBC2 cosplay progress

Sorry guys, but not a whole lot to update on this week as I’ve just returned to work and have had a pretty busy schedule

But that aside— I’ve been struggling fairly hard on making ANY of the armor pieces at all, so after numerous hours and dozens of failed attempts I finally ended up with a few pieces that I’ve decided to move forward with.

The parts I managed at this point are the shoulder pieces and the main breastplate blocking.

I first started by making a template of my own body using cling wrap, duct tape and a marker for general guide lines. After it was cut out, I traced it into 5mm EVA foam and secured the shoulder straps using contact cement. The sides of the breastplate are fashioned together using elastic straps so that it can stretch over my body but also shrink back down to have a tighter fit against my ribs

The reason the back half of my template has a collar and a deeper part into it is so that I can attempt making the jacket out of foam at a later date issuing the same template for both— using that collar line to add the flare that Rex has on his own outfit

Stay tuned!

Gaps in EVA foam after plastidip seal

I’ve noticed that after sealing and priming this part of the prop for painting that there were some pretty noticeable gaps in the foam that my sealant just wouldn’t fill in

Would I be able to use caulk at this stage or something similar to fill these and sand it down without ruining the plastidip layer?

XBC2 Cosplay progress

Back with another update on it!!

First off— I decided to switch gears and move onto making the weapon.

I didn’t want to just make mythra’s sword— so I opted to make an attempt and the awakened Aegis blade! This is my first time ever making anything like this so it’s a little rough around the edges, but I’m still fairly proud of how it’s all coming along.

As for why I switched to the weapon crafting for now— I ended up realizing that the anchor shooter I made should get rebuilt from scratch, mainly cause there were certain parts I didn’t particularly like. Such as rough sanding edges or poor application of sealant.

Not only that, but I’m struggling to figure out how make any more of the armor pieces (such as the jacket or breastplate) so I’ll need some time to learn.

XBC2 Cosplay progress

I fell in LOVE with XBC2, not exactly sure why, but it really did hit a chord with me.

Because of that, I decided to try my hand at this set for Rex! Keep in mind, this is the first time I’m EVER doing anything like this— so my updates are gonna be slow, but I just wanted to share my journey on it as this continues!

Just wanting to clarify that the current piece shown in progress is the anchor shooter

(If you saw this same post before— I had to reupload it because I forgot to mark spoilers the first time)
