60k Debt, what would you do?

greetings,

I am just looking to get some opinions and advice on what I should do to pay off about 60k in student loans. I just finished school over the summer and now most of my loans are in grace/repayment.

I got a degree but it’s been really tough to find a job. Due to some personal/health/financial issues I am unable to relocate too far at the moment but I have been applying everywhere still. Getting some call backs but all eventually gets ghosted.

Single, dependent under parents, 0 CC debt, 0 investments and about 3k in savings. I am still working my retail job that nets me around $2400 a month post deductions. HCOL of living area so still living with parents and don’t have to pay rent. Just about $400-600 in contributions to household expenses on average every month. $500 towards loan, $500 towards commute/personal bills. And whatever’s left towards savings.

I have about 27k in parent plus (down from 33k) at 8.25%. It’s been consolidated and on IBR. NOT PSLF eligible. I have been throwing about $500 at the PPL every month.

(In place of paying rent I opted to pay down this loan for now and have been actively working to bring it down since March this year.)

I have another 28k in federal student loans (sub-unsub) at ~ 5.5% still in grace. Was thinking about putting in to RAP for now so interest doesn’t pile up. But IDR would be nice after I get a proper job.

For neither loans am I aiming for forgiveness due to lack of proper jobs unless administration allows for it. Just unsure I should even try, my field doesn’t offer much PSLF eligible employment

What would you guys suggest? Would appreciate any advice or critiques given. Thank you

stargazing permits should be abolished 😭 happy 4th 🇺🇸

UHHHHH WHY

after all these taxes….why do we still need to pay for these permits 😭. What do they mean by permits can’t be sold around this time of the year?!? I know looking up at the sky is “free” but still 😭. Why can’t they just issue out day passes or charge more during a regular park/beach visit if want to look at some stars 😭

Sorry for the rant, happy freedom day 😭

RAAHHHHH 🦅🫡🇺🇸

Salutations,

i am a bit discouraged at the moment trying to secure a job as graduation is near and typical financial obligations are due. I am actively applying to all types of roles (MFG engineer, MEP eng, field service, estimator, comissioning, process etc) in all industries (though would like to avoid defense). I am mostly going for construction, utlities or manufacturing roles. I have tried from small shops, local government, big names.

I have also been actively applying to technician roles, apprenticeships, technical admin jobs.

unfortunately i was never too fond of school and went into meche very under prepared, most people have a bunch of APs, robotics experience and are just very competent in STEM subjects. I barely passed highschool physics and struggled with academics heavily through my undergrad and now have a below 3.0gpa. So masters to delay unemployment is not feasible both requirements or finances wise.

Currently prepping for FE

some of the stuff that is redacted is just very specific personal identifiers and top project is capstone with the baja team.

my main questions:

  • what are some extreme red flags for my resume that most places i apply to don't even look at my applications. (80% of total apps through company sites)
  • how can i become more employable or stay somewhat relevant.
  • what other types of roles adjacent to engineering can i potentially pivot to with a undergrad in ME?

a big fear is that even after struggling, spending all this time and money i wont be able to find a job and as time passes i will become less favorable to being hired.

any advice is appreciated, thanks for reading.
