Merit aid for 2026-2027
When will continuing undergraduates see their merit aid show in SOLAR? I still am not seeing anything and am wondering if this is normal? I thought it would be late June? Anyone see theirs posted yet in SOLAR? Thanks!

To those who’ve stayed in the dorms, what’s one dorm memory that stays with you?
If you could turn back time, would you have chosen to stay in dorm again, or would you rather have commuted/ lived in an off-campus apartment with friends? Curious to hear your views on dorm life!
I was enrolled for phy131 on summer session 1 with Hemmick. I accidentally mistook the date of the final exam for July 5th(date on brightspace) instead of July 3rd. I had another exam on July 3rd and probably mixed the dates up after checking brightspace. I emailed the professor but I don’t know if that can do anything. I don’t know what to do anymore. :,(
Edit- he responded tonight and scheduled me tomorrow for the exam !
Hello! Whoever took Che 327 this summer of 2026, how do we feel? He basically just down curved us 💀
As an incoming sophomore transfer, I’m so scared that I’m not gonna find any friends and I heard a lot about the social scene at Stony Brook so I don’t know. Yeah I am quite nervous especially as a transfer where I don’t know absolutely anybody at all and most people already have their friend groups but yeah, is it really that bad?
I’m not good at writing stuff like this so I’m just gonna say it simple.I went to UAlbany first and it kinda sucked for me. The wind there is actually crazy. I don’t know how a place can be that windy but it is. Walking to class was annoying every day. Buildings feel super far even when they not supposed to be. Also everything was always confusing. Like if you need help you gotta go to like 3 different offices and nobody knows anything. It took forever just to get simple stuff done. Dorms were ok guess but kinda loud and weird sometimes. Dining hall was just average most days. I just didn’t really like being there. I wasn’t happy so I transferred. Then I went to Stony Brook. Stony Brook is honestly just normal too. Nothing crazy. Classes, buildings, all that stuff is pretty average. People overhype it sometimes. But one good thing did happen there. I went to a TKE party. I almost didn’t go cause I was tired and didn’t feel like it but I went anyway. That’s where I met this girl. We just started talking and it was easy. No weird stuff. Just felt normal talking to her like I knew her already or something. After that we started hanging out more and more and now she’s like the most important person in my life. I really think she’s someone I’m gonna be with for a long time.
If I never transferred I never would’ve met her at all so I guess everything kinda happened for a reason. So yeah Albany wasn’t for me. Stony Brook is whatever honestly. But I met her there and that’s literally the only thing that really matters from my whole time in college.
I was an AOI in CS as freshman last year and I completed all the requirements but I'm an idiot and forgot I had to apply manually by June 5th... It's a month late and it's summer break so I'm really worried I just delayed my graduation or even got kicked out of the CS major after passing everything. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation :(
I'm enrolled in the in-person lab right now, but I was thinking of switching because I'm a bio major and not great at physics. I know taking the lab in-person makes it less of a time commitment, but I'm willing to put in a little extra time if that makes it slightly easier to receive a better grade. Any thoughts? Are there any major downsides of the online section other than paying for the lab materials? Thanks for your thoughts!
19 (almost) F, I’m an ENTP 7w8, really like medicine, chemistry, nerdy stuff
And lowkey “starters” and “bfdi” (YouTube series)
I’m autistic so don’t get offended if I forget to reply or am a little weird with my tone!
I’m not able to get a parking permit given I don’t have the required 57 or more credits and I can’t petition for one either. Is there anywhere I can park my car? Even if I have to move it everyday, I would be willing.
The last ten months since graduation has sucked, I've worked a dead end retail job. Finally someone gave me the honor of office work (still a grind but better than cutting coldcuts). THANK YOU SBU! The stuff I learned, especially with the Microsoft apps really came in handy. I am processing payroll and doing basic entry of AR/AP for a tech firm. Seriously, thank you SBU for opening up this type of opportunity for me!
EDIT: Just honestly BE SEARCHING by senior year..... especially the final semester of ur senior year, be sending em out. 5-10 a day, get the email alerts also! Apply! The firm I work for I applied to on a random recommendation on indeed at 2am Saturday night so just hit that grind hard. DO NOT be discouraged the job market does suck ass right now, never give up hope!
Recomendations by senior year:
-Be job searching daily, send out 5-10x a day
-check indeed/zip recruiter 4/5x a day at specific times
-network with others
-gain relevant campus experience or industry exp
-elevator pitch!
-Cover letters aren't like a godly thing
I’m a transfer student, most likely getting a single dorm. I’ve been looking up dorm bed extender kits where they put longer wooden planks below the mattress. Does anyone know if I will get in trouble for having it?
I liked the class. I did not like the final. Look, I understand trying to make sure people can’t cheat using a lot of questions, but it’s physically impossible to finish without cheating. 2hr 30 min, 80 questions, about 15 of which were mcq, 5 were true or false, and the rest were short response math that had several parts to it.
Hello SBU community,
As many of you may know our campus community recently lost Victoria Castle, an incredibly bright 25 year old Geology PhD student. I am a student journalist working on a piece to honor Victoria's life, her incredible passion for geology, and her academic achievements.
I want to hopefully focus more on how she was as a person, classmate, and scientist rather than focusing on the details of the crime. If you took classes with her, worked alongside her in research, or knew her personally, I would be deeply grateful to hear your favorite memories, stories, or reflections.
How you can share:
Thank you all for your time, and please take care of yourselves during this incredibly difficult time for our university.

Incoming freshman fall 2026. Mainly concerned about difficulty of classes and professors.
Edit: major is applied math & statistics, I have to take 2 courses in the sbc category options (ARTS & STAS)
