Poco X8 Pro Max is straight up flagship level now

been using the x8 pro max for months now (got it right after launch) and it’s crazy good till now!

Mediatek dimensity 9500s absolutely makes this feel like a proper high end phone

After long-term use, the biggest thing i noticed is how good the thermals and sustained performance are. gaming, multitasking, and daily use all stay consistently smooth instead of slowing down after a while.

The gap between premium flagships and flagship killers has basically disappeared at this point.

Review - Had my dimensity 9500s phone for a good while now and it’s been running really well the whole time

the biggest thing i feel is how consistent it feels day to day. gaming, multitasking, camera use, long sessions... performance stays smooth without the phone turning into a heater or slowing down randomly 😭

gaming? stable. multitasking with other apps open? still smooth. camera processing? fast without the phone turning into a hand warmer. even after longer sessions, it doesn’t suddenly throttle itself into oblivion like some flagship chips I’ve used before

Ngl, the sustained performance impressed me way more than the peak numbers everyone posts screenshots of

Battery life is awesome too considering the performance level. The whole experience is very balanced...

Emulation on my dimensity 9500s phone

After using the phone for a good time, I think people still underestimate how far mediatek/mali devices have come

PS2 and Wii stuff runs surprisingly well, and even heavier games stay stable longer because thermals are much better than I expected. biggest difference for me was sustained performance - fps doesn’t suddenly collapse after 15-20 mins like some older flagship chips i’ve used

Also, Mali driver support has improved a LOT compared to the old reputation people still bring up constantly 😭

is it just me or are midrange chips getting way too good lately 😭

I was checking out the dimensity 8500 specs today because a bunch of upcoming phones are apparently using it, and ngl, the gap between midrange and flagship feels smaller every year now.

like this thing has -

an all big-core CPU setup

mali-g720 mc8 gpu

lpddr5x support

144hz display support

dedicated AI hardware

built on 4nm

a few years ago these specs would’ve been reserved for phones costing absurd money.

what’s funny is i’m starting to care less about peak benchmark numbers and more about whether a phone stays smooth after 8 months of use. newer mediatek chips seem way better at sustained performance compared to older generations people still meme about 😅

for most people, these newer upper midrange chips already seem fast enough for basically everything...

just came to know dimensity 8500 crossed 2 million on antutu (ik, a lil late, lol)... ngl tho, midrange chips weren’t supposed to get this close to flagship territory this fast.

what’s interesting isn’t just the number though - mtk seems to be doubling down on GPU this gen, and that’s where most flagship beating chips used to fall apart. Mali supports better sustained gaming instead of just quick scores.

also worth noting - this chip is built on tsmc 4nm + all big core design, so it’s not your typical efficiency-first midrange soc. It’s clearly aiming more at consistent performance rather than short benchmark

and yeah, brands like poco pushing this into relatively affordable phones is what makes it more interesting. you are basically getting near-flagship level throughput without paying flagship prices.

but then after seeing, spending for flagship doesnt makes sense to me... what do you think?
