At a café, Evelynn grabs a drink from the barista and begins to walk out. Evelynn’s footsteps halt. Her glowing yellow eyes scan the name printed on the cup. “Evelyn,” it reads. Sure, just one “n” is missing. Just a minor misspelling—a misspelling that Evelynn would not take lightly. Now at the counter, Evelynn notifies the barista about the misspelling and how her name is actually spelt. The barista calmly explains that it was just a simple mistake. Evelynn chuckles in response, beginning to look away. “What kind of person do you think I am, darling?” Evelynn asks the barista, turning to them with an evil smile. Cut to black with the sound of a loud explosion.

A paint brush dips into a palette and gently applies paint to a canvas. Ahri’s eyes narrow slightly in concentration as she paints something. She’s in her room, in front of an almost-complete painting. She dips her brush into another color and gently applies a last gentle streak of paint. She then puts down the color palette and brush and backs away, her eyes moving as she admires her handiwork, subtly smiling. As she admires it, a gentle knock is heard nearby. Ahri turns to her bedroom door. Seraphine enters the room and waves to Ahri, smiling. Ahri waves back. She then turns to her painting. Seraphine follows her gaze and looks at the painting for a long moment, taking it all in. “I actually didn’t know you were a painter, Ahri,” Seraphine says quietly in English, gazing at the painting. Ahri chuckles. “Well, now you know,” she replies in Korean. Seraphine smiles in response. Her smile soon fades. “When did you start painting?” Seraphine asks her in English. Ahri pauses for a moment, thinking. “Around . . . 8 months ago. Through trial and error and motivation,” Ahri replies in English. Ahri glances at Seraphine, then looks back at the painting. Seraphine’s eyes widen slightly. She opens her mouth to ask another question, but stops herself, subtly reverting her gaze. The question may come off as a little demanding. She lifts her gaze to glance at Ahri, then to the painting. The painting depicts a tide gently rolling in on a beach during sunset, with the sky having been painted yellow-pink and the sun in the middle of lowering on the horizon.

In a large, interactive technology store in South Korea, Seraphine and Ahri are walking through an aisle when a particular object catches their eyes. A large purple scorpion-like robot, bigger than Ahri, sits atop a small wooden square supported by four thin planks. As Seraphine walks toward its nameplate on the side of the scorpion. “Skarner,” it reads. Seraphine then turns around to face a large display screen with an interview with Skarner’s creator. “How do you think Skarner compares to Seraphine?” an interviewer asks Skarner’s creator. The creator smiles and chuckles a bit. Seraphine narrows her eyes. This isn’t going to be good. “Well, Skarner is basically her—but better in almost every way. Faster. Stronger. As well as having a nice aesthetic. Meanwhile, Seraphine looks . . . old-fashioned, human, and quite frankly—and I’m just saying this—being heavily marketed,” Skarner’s creator says. “Marketed”?! What the hell does he even mean by that?! Seraphine scowls. The word finally registers. “What the [bleep]?!” she says in disbelief and frustration. Seraphine turns and storms over to Skarner. “Sera, no! No!” Ahri says, gesturing her to stop. “You think you’re better than me?!” Seraphine demands to the unmoving Skarner. She kicks the robot’s supports away, causing it to crash to the floor in a heap. Seraphine looks at the fallen robot, grinning. Victorious. Nearby, Ahri has her hands over her head in shock, her eyes wide.
