MAKAUT’s "(CGPA - 0.75) * 10" percentage formula makes zero sense. What "normalization" are they even talking about?

I need someone to seriously explain the logic behind MAKAUT’s official percentage conversion formula because my brain hurts trying to make sense of it: Percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) \times 10.

Look at how we actually get our scores:

We write theory exams out of 70.

We grind through lab tests and continuous assessments (CAs) for the remaining 30.

We score our marks out of 100, multiply them by the subject credits, add everything up, and divide by total credits to get our CGPA.

Every single mark is earned through actual sweat, exams, and projects. None of these marks are free.

So when I look up why we have to subtract 0.75 at the end, Google says it's for "normalization."

Normalization for what?

We aren't getting handed inflated grades out of nowhere. We literally sat for the papers, cleared the internals, and earned our weighted score brick-by-brick. If I grind out a solid CGPA, that number is already an accurate, weighted reflection of my performance. Why on earth do I have to chop off 0.75 from it just to convert it into a percentage for job applications or higher studies?

It feels like an arbitrary tax on our hard work. If anyone from the university or anyone who defends this system can explain what is actually being "normalized" when we earned every fraction of our score, I'm all ears.

Published a research paper for our college project, did all the heavy lifting, but ghost group members got better grades than us. Peak Tier-3 absurdity

I honestly just need to rant because I am losing my mind over how grading works here.

I’m studying at Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (MSIT) under MAKAUT, and the internal project evaluation system is a complete circus.

To give you the exact breakdown of our group of six (Persons A, B, C, D, E, and F):

Persons A, B, C, and D actually did the work, built the project, and successfully published a research paper out of it. But even among us, it was random: A and B got 10, while C and D got 9.

Persons E and F did literally zero work. They didn't contribute to the code, didn't help with the paper, and didn't even do basic annotations.

Yet, when the marks came out, E got a 9 and F got a flat 10!

When I went to talk to the mentor, I got the classic shrug: "Nothing can be done now, it's locked by the college."

I understand their part they are not at fault of course. But

it's mind-boggling. People who didn't even lift a finger get rewarded with a 10, while the actual authors of a published research paper get randomly shortchanged. Talking to friends at other colleges just makes it worse their professors try to give everyone good marks unless they completely ghost, whereas our college actively penalizes actual effort while handing out freebies to freeloaders.

The system is completely cooked. I know the marks are locked and nothing will change, but I just had to vent about how broken and unfair institutional grading is. At least the publication stays on my resume forever, unlike these clown-show internal marks.

Rant over.

Shoutout to this amazing iPhone photographer/guide we found in Sonamarg! 🏔️📸

Hey everyone! Just got back from an unforgettable trip to Sonamarg (Thajiwas Glacier and the last village), and I absolutely have to share a shoutout for a local guy who made our trip 10x better. We hired a local iPhone photographer named Sam for a 3–4 hour trek, and he went completely above and beyond.

The Content: He took over 100 stunning photos and made 20 fully edited reels/videos synced with trending music. He knows all the best angles and frames.

The Guide Experience: He acted as a full travel guide, sharing awesome local info, history, and pointing out exactly where famous Bollywood movies were shot.

The Safety & Patience: The trek was slippery, and he literally helped us climb the snow, negotiated/arranged our snow boots for us, and never rushed us once. He was incredibly patient while we took our time.

He is a young local creator trying to grow his business, and his hospitality represents the absolute best of Kashmir. If anyone is heading to Sonamarg and wants an amazing, trustworthy companion who will take beautiful reels and look after you, please hit him up.I don't want to post his personal phone number publicly to avoid spam bots, so please DM/PM me and I will happily share his WhatsApp contact with you!
