Stalled

I stalled going in 1st gear over a speed bump and when I tried to restart it, every press of the button didn’t do anything. I was stuck in accessory mode until after 10 tries it finally turned completely off and I was able to start it, have any of you experienced this? The battery is stock and it’s a 2024 that was bought in February of 2025.

Uniden R8

I was driving up I-5 heading back to Oregon from Northern California when all of the sudden I see CHP 5 cars behind me and then instantly get a hard radar signal. I braked immediately and hard, then CHP got behind me almost tailgating me. I didn’t like that so I let off the gas without braking until eventually he just got back in the passing lane.

I wonder about when they turn off their radar and then suddenly turn it back on do we still have a second or two to brake? Because I should have been pulled over, yet it seemed like I slowed down quickly enough for them not to get my original speed.

Anti-theft.

My anti-theft mechanism is to detach the bolt to the direct linkage arm and hide it in another compartment and then place the shift boot over it hiding the fact that it’s been disconnected. For those who would be like “bruh nobody gonna steal a wrx” stfu because one was stolen from my hospital parking garage. At least with this they won’t be able to shift. It’s tedious but when I’m working 12 hours during the night I don’t want to have to deal with it after work.

Spark plug change

Just completed my spark plug change at 40k miles. I heard that the driver side was a pain in the ass but it wasn’t that bad with the battery out and a swivel. I did it in two hours.

The YouTube video below was really helpful. I never needed to unplug any wires though.

Oil change question on 2024 WRX VB

Should I go ahead and call it quits or am I okay? I’m not good enough yet to determine if this amount of metal debris is normal.

Do any of you have decal wraps?

Was thinking about doing something like this. Don’t know if it would be absolutely cringe or the coolest fucking thing ever. Anybody have something similar?

This red feels too sexy

Someone said it was “sex red” and now I’m wondering if I should switch it out now. I’m the least sexiest person on this planet. Help… what color should I change it to?

Guys, I’m done with the WRX

I’m done with the badge. I’ve traded it in for a forester.

All I wanted was a manual

I’m big on Subaru’s AWD system especially after driving through the Alcan highway in the winter on all-season tires. I never wanted a WRX but I hated the CVT and how dangerous it was to not be able to accelerate as quickly as I wanted to. So I thought I’d go for the Subaru with AWD that is a manual and now here I am doing all my own mechanic work changing a wheel bearing hub assembly, installing a new shifter, exhaust, CAI, and trans/diff fluid. I never wanted this before but I love it now.

DM2 What are your thoughts?

First, I think this is, to my knowledge, the best shifter currently on the market. Second, I think it’s way overpriced, but me saying that can be ignorance to the cost of the process of production.

I know there are other threads of reviews of this, but wanted to add my piece.

After putting the DM2 through about 2k miles, I can say it’s a genuinely well-executed shifter for what it’s trying to do. The throw reduction is noticeable and satisfying; shifts feel tighter and more deliberate without crossing into that hyper-short, notchy territory that makes daily driving annoying. It’s still manageable even in stop-n-go traffic in the Bay Area. The build quality is pretty solid: high quality hardware, and the linkage components feel pretty solid too.

Installation is straightforward if you’re already comfortable working in the transmission tunnel area, though you’ll want to take your time with the linkage alignment; the geometry matters here and rushing it will cost you smoothness. I was the most frustrated during this part of the installation. Once dialed in correctly, engagement feels clean across all six gears.

I think this is a solid upgrade for someone who wants a connected and more stiff feel the market has to offer. It provides a stiff feel that makes people say “this guy fucks” but not so stiff that you’re about to spend 5 hours shooting a gangbang.

Do I think it’s worth it for the price? Not really, especially if you’re struggling financially. Other options are sufficient and I would only upgrade during a sale or if you simply have more money than sense.

Pros: Throw reduction feels natural, quality hardware, noticeable improvement over stock or any other aftermarket setups.
Cons: Cold-start notchiness, linkage setup requires patience to get right, cost.

Cool idea, but really slow.

I’m gonna go make a sandwich and play with my dog while this drains my time and oil.

Theft-proof ideas

I work in Oakland as a nurse, but originally from PDX. I have never seen such blatant car theft. I keep hearing about the hospitals parking garage as a hotspot for theft of all kinds; breaks-in, grand theft auto, and vandalism. I have no choice but to park there while I work 12 hour night shifts. I don’t want to worry about my car when I’m doing chest compression on a ducking baby.

I was wondering if any of you had unique ideas to disable your car so that only you can know how to start it. Something like locking the clutch somehow or putting a temporary shift stop in an area that makes it impossible to shift. Idk. I’m trying to brainstorm.

My friend who is a respiratory therapist got his type R stolen. I don’t want to be next.

EDIT: wow what a great audience.

Anyway, I haven’t looked into this and I assume it would require heavy modification of door panels, hinges, etc… but I think the ultimate anti-theft would be bullet-proof windows. If somehow that were possible, coupled with door locks that are also theft-proof. Idk.
